phew..close one. just played a guy called ICDeadPeople

he had the default formation and rank 750. i assumed hed be a pushover, so i set to work.

soon i realised he wasnt as nooby as id assumed, and by mid game he was quite soundly beating me. to make it worse, there was a cleric drop at that point.

fortunately for me, he was actually a new player, so his tactics werent top notch. he send his knights at my remaining forces one at a time and i was able to pick them off.

late game, it boiled down to this:

me: 1 scout, 1 knight, BW, LW, 1 cleric

hm : 1 scout, 1 knight, 1 chanty.

his scout + knight had more life than mine, but at that point i got lucky and scored a few hits he mighta blocked. likewise my units got a few blocks, and my scout sniped his chanty off before she reached me.

so when he had his last knight with 1 life left, and i still had what id had before, we had a brief chat before i finished it and claimed my 3rd cleric.

look out for him, he could be quite a good player, i advised him to signup to the forums..

The noob settup is awesome. Never judge someone if they're using the noob settup. I use alot... when I play. Infact, I use alot of settups that suck, just to see how good I can do with them.

But...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

You almost lost to a noob!

almost...almost.

if theres one thing (within TAO) i take pride in, its that i can often turn around grim situations and pull out wins, even from dire looking times. ive done it in 75% of games i appear to be losing. and since i dont appear to be losing at any stage in about 60% of my games, it means i dont lose often :)

people get overconfident when theyre winning, and i become more alert and tactical when im losing..i might enter one of those 5 piece tourneys or whatever they are
