I'll start off by asking, How do you join a clan? What good is it to join a clan?

Whats good as a formation? Spread out or Close together?

Whats a good opening?what unit should i move first? should i attack?

Most of your answers can probably be found there.

Clans are good for fraternity, in-game help, practice, and clan warring. I don't know about that last option, but the others make it worth it. Plus, you get some nifty blue text under your name on your avatar.

For formation help, click this link (http://tacticsarena.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8). There is much discussion on whether spreads or turtles (close together in the corner) is better. A good formation depends on your account type, too. If you're gold, then this thread (http://tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=6512) might prove to be useful.

As for actually playing the game, the best way to learn is through experience. Check the General Strategy forum (http://tacticsarena.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=8) for more information.

Welcome to TAO. Enjoy yourself!

^^ hehehehe

Anyway, I don't know if it's just me, but if I like being in clans for the company ;)

More specifically, you can battle people in your clan without losing stats (that's the practice third was talking about) and you can talk to them while in a battle (in-game help). If someone is talking smack (haha, talking smack. I haven't said that in ages!) about you or someone you are friends with, if you're in a good clan, and generally known and liked within it (and sometimes even if you aren't), your clan should back you up. I think that's about all. I don't really care about actually playing the game or the strategy involved, so I'm going to leave it to others to explain such trivial matters ;).

That's a great point, Elentari. You know, it occured to me that I would never still be playing this game if it weren't for the clans. I've been a gamer for a long time, since the Arcade days, and I really think that Tao is a brilliantly designed game. However, if it weren't for the clans ( especially my clan, netjak ) I would have moved on by now. Clans add a great dimension to the TAO experience. That's what keeps me coming back.

My reason for becoming gold was KOTR.
