Not being very computer smart at all, I don't know what this means. I'm thinking it may just be something with the my internet provider.

Look to the bottum right of that pictures. That message flashes on and off ocassionaly. It's never really "unplugged" longer than a minute, but it has on occasion, caused me to completely shut down and start over because my hole internet connection was lost.
Now, is there something I can do about this? Or even what is it... because it also boots me out of TAO game sometimes.

It could be that the cable is loose, rather than unplugged.
Check if it's plugged in properly.

This has nothing to do with the modem...Your computer is saying the local area connection is bad. The only way the modem has anything to do with it is if it overloaded your router.
what that red X means is your local area network like it says, is not connected...Because like it also says...the network cable(the thingy that connects your computer to the router) is unplugged. If you use a wireless then you need to reconfigure it or buy a new one.
If it's not wireless, check to make sure the cord is sercurly connected to the back of your computer, and into the router. Check the ends to make sure they are not ruptured.
Try unplugging your modem and router for 20 secs, then plug in the modem, wait for it to reconfigure, then plug in the router. If all else fails, call the tech support from your internet provider. They will make sure its not a problem on their end, and send you to your router companys tech. Which if you get that far, just buy a new router.
In very rare instances, the cable that runs to your computer will go bad internally, you will have to replace the cord if this is the case.

Just to let you know, that was an understatement...
But anyways, I thought for sure it was a wireless settup. On the old computer which we don't use, there is an ?antena? that you can move around and stuff on the back which looks the same as one on the main whatchmacallit (that probably doesn't help...). But there are 2 antenas on the main whatchmacallit for both our computers. BUT, the one I'm using now does not have an antena on the back... I looked to see if it had falled off or something but there's nothing. BUT... this one's wired into the basement and the main thing directly? Meh... I really don't know how everything's settup. I'll have to ask my dad, since he's the one that wired everything.

Yes wireless routers do use antennas...
I don't see how thats funny DD, these things do need good receptions, hows your cell phone work without an antenna...
what company makes your router?

Windows XP does not display errors in the wireless connection like that. The dialog bubble being displayed has to do with the LAN.
What's probably happening is most likely one of these things:
Your ethernet cable is loose - Easily remedied. Check all connections.
Your modem is having technical problems - Check the status lights on your modem when it happens. Give your provider a call, or wait it out. I know that sometimes during a storm or power flicker my modem acts up.
Your ethernet cable is bad - Try a different ethernet cable and see if it helps. This could also be related to your router, if you have one. Try a direct connection and see if it work.
What I would do is turn off the computer, unplug / reset everything including the modem and / or router, reconnect the ethernet cables, turn on the modem and / or router, and turn on the computer, in that order.
Let us know how it goes.

Well, I shut down and went around and checked all the plugs and cords, made sure everything's working right.
And so far haven't seen the message.
But then again... it tends to come up more often in the mornings and late night, so I'll give it some time to see.
It also seems to happen more often when I'm using trillian which is why I haven't been going on the IRC chat much. Or aim, but I don't go on that much anyways. Or maybe that's just a coincident, I dont' know.

I doubt that'd be it, since it's been happening on and off for almost 2 months now. Maybe longer. It hasn't really caused any huge problems besides occasionaly booting me from TAO so I never really thought much of it.

Like i said, I would be very suprised if it we're the modem...I think you overloaded your router and its going bad...i went through two linksys routers then got a netgear. Havent had a problem yet with the netgear one.
