I'll make a long story short... Army is known for golds not playing. This one gold (1400+) refuses to play my gold. So, I offered a challenge to him. Play my default grey setup, and when I win I will surrender.

(this little clan I made up, we ONLY use basic n00b grey set... just for fun)

I'm a man of my word, so I surrendered before victory.... Just wanted to brag. w00t!

Why is your cleric still alive?

Armor
Scout vs Enchantress.
Dragon moved fwd.
Scout kill enchantress
Dragon kill Witch
Drag kill Cleric
Scout kill Pyro

Mix in some heals and gold win.

Not saying you did not play well.
Any grey victory vs gold is to be appreciated.
But a 1400 gold leaving a cleric standing around.

Just shows the Ranking system needs to close its point gap at the top. The ability to score points off wins needs to be limited the higher you go. So it forces people to get points off GOOD players, or to point farm.. which is easily exposed like you showed here.

I agree... A turtle should oust any grey...

The reason I was able to win, was because I sacrificed my scout to smack his stoney.

After that, he should have pulled back and re-armored.

Shaman, the problem I have with your statement in that:

If you change the point system that dramatically...why would I bother playing anyone not at the top and why would anyone above me bother playing me? at 1400 you barely get anything for beating low ranked greys as it is. I don't personally think the point system is great, but if you change it to your suggestion I would never get a game. Except from people that wouldn't help me.

Just my two cents. Won't buy you a damn thing, but take it anyway.

When you have so many people farming points, it makes being ranked almost inconsequential anyway.

I actually did a pretty complicated matrix scoring system once that would reward golds for playing golds and greys for beating golds. A number of people shot it down. Who? People who like easy points, or want to keep their current points.

They need an automated tourney tracker.
So you can sign up for a tourney, get access to a tourney server, play your game, and have the results recorded in the brackets.
THEN... we can find out who the ongoing 'Best of the Best' are.

But I dont want to sidetrack this thread.

Actually the only way a turtle formation can lose to a grey is it u have a grey turtle formation on the same side as a gold and u start the game. than u just have to be hell of smart to overwelm any gold. I beated alot of top 10 golds just because i had eventually lucky shots like that.

when u start u can do alot of break down moves like run with ur scout to a spot where u can use a barrier and shot his cleric. any gold loses if he lose his cleric on the begging of the game.
Or also u can use suicide witches to make some major damage. One time i ran with one of my witches just so he would use his dragon to kill her on the first move, so would allow my other witch to live time enouth (witch+barrier) to make a 4hit combo on the turtle formation.

The idea is always remember somethin: 90% of gold turtle formations just have 3 attackes - 2 scouts and 1 dragon. nothin more. so just do whatever u can to kill bouth scouts, even if that means u lose almost everyone of ur team. than use the last resorces u have to kill the frost golem. thats it. if u have a full life enchancher and at least one misable low life knight u win the game.

i agree with carioca, that the best way to defeat a gold turtle is to overwhelm it, whether by rushing or having a turtle on the same side. however, there is a way to adapt the standard gold turtle to cancel out both manuevers as well as keep up enough defense to prevent any other grey forms. actually, it's an adaptation of some of the better grey turtles that i've seen only with some gold improvisations. basically, u need to create a shell with high defense units that can take a lot of hits or have high blocking (knights, lightning ward). then, put scouts and a frosty in the back field. the frosty can incapacitate any approaching melee units and the scouts can pick off any mages. leftover unit spots can be filled with units with unblockable attacks to take out the scout. i prefer dsm and pyros because their attack pattern can be used without damaging ur own units. the key is to keep ur weaker units behind the "shell" and use LOS and the cross pattern attack and frosty to destroy all attackers. even better, the lack of a stoney causes a false sense of security that makes greys more willing to attack. however, this kind of form is weak against the standard gold turtle due to it's lack of stoney. still havent found the best way to fix that. only beat one gold turtle with it, tho it was partially luck. well......maybe this new gold turtle/shell will be the new trend heh.

The default formation always was a good standard formation. It works well.

I remember beating bludhoundz with it.

Also that is soooo wrong about the golds you people are SILLY.

To beat a gold turtle who says you HAVE to rush them? They should defeat you quite easily if you do.

Turtling also isn't a good idea, two scouts pin you down.

You need a flexible and quite wide spread from centre point formation; then you play defensive until their scouts and dragon are exposed. Run the scout in (sacrifice if the other units can be damaged) and hit the stoney. Then proceed to remove the scouts swiftly and efficiently (sp?), sorted :)

Thats how I beat alot of gold turtles, including Twelve and Search

If you're gold and you lose to a grey on the mirror servers, You Simply SUCK

On legends it's a whole other story, because greys often have 2 frosties/muddies/beasties etc. so if you're having an OFF day you MIGHT lose..

So I am on Army using the grey default and a gold jumps me. His screen name is xanthar-rpg-master. He tells me I should change my setup, laughs at me when I kill his DSM b/c "now his dragon is at full power", and basically gets his ass tore off by the default setup. From the picture you can tell he was able to kill a pyro and a witch. Good job bud, way to talk trash after jumping a grey.

A grey beating a Gold here is nearly Impossible due to the fact of you not having a mud....Just simply saying it...All u need is a mud to defeat a gold, if you know how to move it and everythng u can kill cleric in about 4 moves after it just own....Being honest...But in here is tought there are those who just simply suck....*Holds hands down...Doesn't point at anyone*

It's so funny. Not just here, but when I log in other "golds" slap me around saying how... "I could kick your default grey setup" They talk smack, just like everyone here.

And I may not win *every* match, by the end they realize it was too close to talk smack.

And I'm not just beating dumb golds either... Take a look at the screenies again.

I lost to a grey default form (before you all start laughing, it was on my grey), to crater, who I must assume is either a gold as well or has been playing a long time, because he played it very well.

The grey default is not a bad formation. However, any gold worth his salt SHOULD beat it. Unless he gets crazy luck or uses a bad formation against it (eg. a turtle w/o 2 scouts, or a bomb).

Crater is not a gold, and chooses not to be a gold (hell, netjak even offered to pay for his gold and he refused). However, he is one of the best greys around and has been a long time netjakker.

I thought the name sounded familiar. I think we played back in the days of me being grey... he's as good as ever. One of the few greys who used to be able to beat me, as far as I remember, but those were the pre-chanty days...

I might do a default setup account after the next wipe, for the fun of it. I'm going to go for the first flawless of a gold with the default. :)

Well i thought about my own statement.. and came to conclusion that there are exceptions to the rule.. lets say the gold is like 10 years old and he upgraded after 1 day of play.. then you may practice and try to make something out of it... and i think when you flawless a gold with your default setup that it belongs in the exceptions book... My mind can't grasp the fact that you play this longer than lets say a week and you're older than 12 that you would be flawlessed by a default setup grey..
