2 people and how mature you think they are .. 1 being the lowest please nothing stupid like 000.1 or soemthing way above 10 1 being the lowest and 10 being the highest..
In no particular order..
Glamdring--I give you a whopping 9 because you give great advice and are a strong voice in the TAO community :)
Walrus--you get a decent 6 but because you start so many funny arguments I boost that number to 7!

yes, but in the idea of commenting/rating the person above you, i think thrd, that makes about 5 times that youve been directly below me but not commented, meaning i get no comment/rating meaning i have to repost later. grrrr.

What a loser.
Honestly I think the rep system can tell you a lot about a person's maturity. It's obviously not perfect, but I think in most cases it's probably pretty close, based on the fact that rep comes from following rules, being accepted (which takes mature posting habits), etc.
Kind of what I thought of when I saw this thread.

That only works in an infinite time frame. Not everyone joins the forums at the same time, not everyone stays here forever. The rep system could show you subjective maturity, I suppose, over a limited time frame.
[edit] and even then, it could be exploited.
Well sure, a lot of what you have to consider is post count, but that's why it doesn't work in all scenarios. But for those who have, say, 1,000 posts and above (and some others) it would probably be somewhat of an accurate reflection. Anyways...
EDIT TO MATCH: All too true.

05-31-2005, 05:48 PM
But Dove's rep is just "really nice" with four bars and my lowly two is "a spectacular aura"
Dove, you're aura's fine by me!
insignifiGant
05-31-2005, 05:58 PM
And then there's the fact that perhaps maybe everyone doesn't define maturity the same.
I don't have an exact definition for maturity yet, but it is something as follows:
Being happy with what one has. Being oneself, without letting one's peers influence their every decision. Being selfless.
Realist
05-31-2005, 06:00 PM
The rep system tells little about maturity because its based on being popular with the forum members, many of whom are quite immature themselves. ;)

Very true :)
prime example:
hydrant vs savannah
I'd most definitely say that Hydrant is more mature, not that there's anything wrong with that, she's older, experienced more.
But Savannah has more rep, and seems to be a bit more popular with most of the newer members.

The main reason is number of posts.
If you post more, you are likely to get repped more.

I disagree. There are alot of people out there who just rep eachother back and fourth for the hell of it. All these annoying noobs didn't earn there 4,5, even 6 boxes of rep.
actgfin1234
05-31-2005, 06:35 PM
I didn't earn any of mine. I created 800 accounts, and repped myself once with each of them. :(

Northy probably has the best rep per post comparatively.
Jeff is right, if you don't post, you don't get much rep.
Also, maturity is very poorly reflected by rep, I'm not the most mature person here, and I have the highest rep so something is clearly wrong.
Northy is the most mature, though I'd say Ahab if he were still around :(
I miss you Ahab!
Kind of off topic, but what happens at 11 rep boxes? I'm kind of curious.
And I'd say Warcow is pretty mature... I did manage to ignore Northwind though, good point whoever said it first and subsequently.

10 Boxes is the highest, and to my knowledge there is two more rep levels to go through.
I think one is famous around these parts. The last I believe is "has a reputation beyond repute"
