I dunno if it's been suggested before, but the barrier ward should be able to barrier an empty tile, in effect, making an indestructible shrub.

Yes, this has been brought up before.
The barrier is an effect on a unit, rather than an object, itself. If you see what I mean. That's why you can't barrier empty spaces, because there is no unit to take the effect. See?
It's an interesting idea, but if you really want to block a space you could just move a unit there. Or shrub it.
On a final note, this should really have been in the Suggestions forum. Really, Serge, I expected better from you.

Yes, yes, yes. A simple way to bring more strategy to the game. Why not?
Also this thread should be moved... I don't know where though. Suggestions does no justice these days.

i was also thinking itd be nice if you could just remove a barrier from a unit without causing the BW to then have 2 recovery..and without using the barriered unit

Why would you do a silly thing like that?

Might i ask the purpose of this move???

say you wanna heal a unit thats barriered, but the unit is recovering, and in 2 turns (assuming next turn you heal) you want to barrier something else. you wouldnt be able to do this as the BW is right now, because by unbarriering the unit (targetting an empty space with the BW) you would then get a 2 turn wait.
in time critical situations, like when your chanty needs a barrier, itd be very helpful to simply be able to unbarrier without getting the wait.

I've had this same thought before...

I can kinda see the point.
The biggest problem, coding wise, would be coding access to more than one unit per turn.

I think it's a good idea
