View Full Version : Johnny Chimpo, Loving Life

Some of you may recall my abrupt departure back in May after finally finding the job opportunity I had been waiting for.

You might also remember Divine Right taking time out of his busy schedule to belittle my new position "just doing what I'm told," and "making stupid cell phone games," before banning my alter ego (Johnny Chimpo) from his forums.

In light of that, I thought it would be fitting to dig up my old login and return so you could all join in celebrating my promotion to lead developer after less than 5 months at the studio. I will have 25 developers working under me, and we remain the #1 developer of mobile games in the world, leading sales, distribution and growth.

Ohh, but I see you have a new unit "on the way," after, what's it been? 9 months? Haha. God, that's hilarious, and I mean that genuinely. I really laughed out loud when I read the "big news."

Hey, and who remembers Cpt. Jack Sparrow? Haha. These forums were a hoot. Anyway, back to reality. Peace.

Mr. Phil, I don't want you to think we don't like you, so I'll flame you for old time's sake.

Johnny Chimpo, or is that Chumpo, you're a delusional old geezer who smells like an elephants butt.

Can I borrow some money?

I don't think we've ever actually talked. But nice to see you back. :p

actually...ill be the first to berate the chump

honestly...your post was asking for it

if you are going to pop off around here with that attitude like you are better than all of us then be gone and don't bother coming back. very few people around here care what you have done. you are not the only person in the world who is doing well at their job...but you don't see everyone else bragging. either post like a normal person or get lost and don't come back

how was that?

SKOF, he has always been like that but my post wasn't just for him. If you have noticed, a lot of people who had the welcoming mat pulled out from under them are back. Its ok though, if they have reformed themselves then I honestly don't mind if they stay or not.

There are a lot of people who need to brag about things in their lives in order to protect their delicate egos. Obviouslly, Chimpo's post wasn't a "Hi Guys, How are you?"; if anything it was like the annoying girl at work showing off her engagement ring.

When good things happen to me, I tell my friends and family. It is all good though SKOF, you don't see any of us searching him out and giving him updates on our lives. :D

The reason that old people are coming back is because of the new unit. I mean there is no other possible explanation. If the new unit is not it, then it is just because TAO is cool.

There are also a lot of people who need to deride the accomplishments of others to protect theirs. I'm not here to brag or seek justification, rather simply to respond to your parting words belittling and trivializing my job.

Oh, and to say "Hey," to the forum.

I was first. :) Read page one.
Not bad except you missed the boat and claimed you didn't. Just like Dick Cheney! :p

Chumpo(that's getting old already, I'll stink to Jimmy) let me point out a few things.

Number A, you claim being lead developer puts you in a high position, while only putting out one unit maked DR suck. We know he does, but for different reasons. We'll just cover it from this perspective.

-Just because you have people under you, doesn't mean you make a lot of money.
-Just because you design a lot of games for something doesn't mean anybody buys/uses them.
-Only putting out 1 unit doesn't mean his company isn't doing well. Maybe it's doing so well he didn't need to do any extra work.
-You have no idea how much DingleNuts is making from this game, he could be doing very well.

Thought pattern B
-I know a person that manages a store with 60 people under them. He makes just over 30 grand a year.
-My aunt is a manager in a government owned company, with 3 people under her. She makes around 70 k a year. (our tax dollars hard at work)

To sum up, brag about the situation itself all you want, that still doesn't mean you don't live in a box outside DR's palace.

On the other side of the coin, the opposite could be true. I don't wanna go type it out, so go back to Number A and follow to the end but reverse everything.

Either way, it's shocking how much I don't care, yet am willing to get into a time consuming post about it. :)

Ok, since I'm here, I'll say hi to some people.

1) Jeffrey, hey old geezer, what's up?

2) Catra, what server do you play on? And I returned your pm. :)

Oh, and to say "Hey," to the forum.

Oh, forgot to reply to this. Doesn't seem to matter because what I have to say isn't important, but I'm gonna anyway.

How does you coming back to brag make you feel better about yourself?
Do you need to feel better about yourself?
Having some sort of problem that causes you to need to brag and try and 'exact verbal revenge' on others?
if you were truly content, you wouldn't need to come back and brag about how great you feel you are.

Hey, back at ya from the forum! :D

You might of over-said that a little bit there, cheech. I think you owe Chimpo an apology. You too, Skof.

He was new at a video game company, and in less that five months he is now the lead developer of his design team. That's quite a feat. Especially in such a thriving industry. You're acting like he came in and talked highly about himself as if he was only trying to belittle us. Alot of people were happy when for him when they found out he got the job, it was very nice to hear how it's going. He's not bragging. If you read through almost everyone was happy for him. So if you're not going to congratulate him, don't pull that. He was very happy for his accomplishment and all you can do is tear it down.

His original accoplishment was quite a feat and his quick promotion shows that he is very skilled in the industry. I have no doubt that he's going to go far in his job.

Lets just leave it at that, there is no reason to dig up old arguments.

So he says.
He claims that he got a job and was rapidly promoted.
(attempt to start controversy)

He could just be very skilled in the industry of self promotion. :)

As for old arguements, he came in and said 'ha ha, look at me everybody.'
If anything was brought up, it would be because he invited it.
Not that anything said has to be either good or bad.

If you make a comment, you open yourself to replies.
No need for you to swing on his nuts defending him from stuff he knew would come up.

-Just because you have people under you, doesn't mean you make a lot of money.

What does making money have to do with anything? I can tell you right now I don't make a lot of money; on average, the game industry pays lower salaries than nearly every other major field of software development. The competition, the pace, the overhead costs of unreleased titles, the risk, the turnover on employees quitting under pressure; it all adds up to less money to throw around for everyone.

Luckily, we don't measure success based on what's printed on our paychecks, but whether or not we're doing the job we always wanted to do and doing it well.

-Just because you design a lot of games for something doesn't mean anybody buys/uses them.

Did you read the part we're we are the #1 mobile game developer in the world? Like, as in, on Earth? I'm guessing 1 or 2 people have been buying our games.

-Only putting out 1 unit doesn't mean his company isn't doing well. Maybe it's doing so well he didn't need to do any extra work.

Haha. That kind of thought process is exactly what I pointed out in DR and what got me banned. Just because you're making money doesn't mean you should sit on your hands and rake in the cash.

Whether or not he's "doing well" is moot. The fact that you're receiving ONE unit after NINE months for a game that charges a MONTHLY fee is absolutely hilarious.

-You have no idea how much DingleNuts is making from this game, he could be doing very well.

Again, beside the point. Point being, he belittled my position as an "underling" who just "did what he was told" and had no actual input in the process, etc.

I returned to respond to that, and nothing else. Not bragging, not grand-standing, just responding to his insults, that's all.

-I know a person that manages a store with 60 people under them. He makes just over 30 grand a year.
-My aunt is a manager in a government owned company, with 3 people under her. She makes around 70 k a year. (our tax dollars hard at work)

You're really hung up on salary, like the guy I interviewed yesterday who said "Compensation is a big deal for me, you have to be able to match what I can make in the financial industry or I don't know if I can accept a position."

Know what I told him? "Go work in the financial industry. We want people who want to make games, not money."

this is understandable...but people don't expect to be paid less than what they deserve...perhaps he wasn't as good as he thought he was

but eventually you will hire someone who is less skilled because they "want it more"
which never turns out good in the industry

Hi Jimmy.

I'm going to respond to your reply on the bottom of page 3.
I don't wanna quote all that.

I didn't say I measure success based on money.
You just assumed I did.
I was only using the bling bling factor in my examples, it didn't have to reflect the real situation, those were only examples of what could be.
You know this, don't try and change my arguement.

I do happen to agree with you, the ultimate success is making a living doing what you love to do.
Of course, some people are greedy, and what they like to do is count money. :) But for us that doesn't matter. :)

You're the #1 developer. Again, my examples were hypothetical, I didn't say you weren't. And you'll notice I did both sides of the coin.
You just can't take what I said, so you're trying to change what I said so you have a valid arguement against it. Grow up.

Just because you're making money doesn't mean you should sit on your hands and rake in the cash.

It also doesn't mean that he has to do anything. If his company is doing well, it's less imparative that he make changes and add new components. A new unit might very well unbalance the game, making people unhappy. So it would be foolish to just pump out units as fast as possible.
Besides, it's his company. He decides what direction he wants to take it, how he wants to run things. That's his choice, not yours.
His company will live or die based on his choices, which are really none of our business.

The fact that you're receiving ONE unit after NINE months for a game that charges a MONTHLY fee is absolutely hilarious.
Here's a thought. We pay a monthly fee to play the game. We don't pay the fee to watch him develop new units. We're getting exactly what we're paying for. And when a new unit comes out to enhance the game, that's just a bonus.
What's hilarious is you couldn't identify that.

I will say that if you're happy with your job, who cares what anybody else says. You've got what you want, and that's the most important thing you could hope for.
I'm happy for you. :)
I do wish you the best. I wish everybody the best. Don't feel I'm against you. I just disagree with your opinions, and I like to speak my mind.

DR will decide if he's successful, you can decide if you're successful, each by your own standards of how you see life.
How you see each other doesn't really matter.
But you both still suck. :)

Hey, did I pm you lately?

I totally agree.

Do what you want to do, not what makes you money. I have a friend who's a very good web designer, and makes pretty good money at it. He's currently studying to be an anthropologist, where he will undoubtedly make much less than he does now. But he really wants to do it.
