View Full Version : The people that play this game.

Everyday since this months account reset, I have seen more and more immature players. They talk smack the whole time, taunting you and whatnot. I thought this game would be a strategic game that detered the little kids from playing it.

When I open up Tactics Arena I hope to get some good games in with some good people and have fun. Now this is hardly fun at all because of the community. It has turned into a bunch of little bitch kids like a lot of other gaming communities.
While it isn't that noticable in the forums, every game I play seems to show it.

Anyone else have similar thoughts?

Almost any online game (no matter the type) has that problem...only way to prevent it is to make everyone pay and then its still not 100%

But, some could be prevented with a Chat admin ... as I've suggested before. However, Bills explained that after 3 min in the lobby, free accounts are booted. That's kind of cool, but there are a lot of little punks that just hop right back in. Like that loser "playmeladys" and his alter ego "shagmelezees" even though I told him he's a retard and needs to learn how to spell. What are we really going to do though?

I've seen just the opposite, actually. Not only does TAO have the least amount of immature players of almost any games I've played, the numbers of immature players has gone down over time, in my experience.

In all my years of online gaming ive never seen such a high concentration of immature n00bs than the current non-gold residents of the Banff server:D.

try being a gold member whiterider, you'll get 10x the abuse ( and thats just as you enter the lobby hehehehehehehe)

Thats exactly why I'm not gold, Velete.

If you think this is bad, I wonder what other games you've been playing?

I haven't seen one purposely bad speller.
I have seen no racist or otherwise bigotted remarks.
I have seen no people who could be considered cruel (rather than just excited about winning a game).

Again, the forums are clean (which is nice)
But wow, the last 5 games of mine...

I was refering to both the lobby and my individual games, not the forum. Maybe I've just been lucky.

Maybe you haven't seen the really bad kids, but they're out there. And they're annoying. I just like to tell them to shut it, then I ignore them. It's suprisingly easy to ignor the grey chatter when everything you type shines golden.

A taunt does not neccessarily mean that a player is being a "noob", for it is very easy to compare a taunt during a game like a taunt during a bar fight. If you are the big burly man with a tattoo exclaiming the joy he has in loving his mother, than with a few simple words after a display of power, all around will be amazed at the chaos that could be unleashed before them. However, if one would act like a drunken college frat boy, and make constant refrences to obscure body parts and the said big burly man's mother, then all that is really going to happen is that the larger combatant will enjoy victory that much more. A good taunt is truly a piece of art, and with practice, it adds yet another level of strategy to a game such as this.

Im with Silverdropone, I just ignore greys at all times... I dont even bother to read grey text in the lobby anymore, and the only time I ever play greys is when they jump me while I was waiting for someone else

xyxaxyz2, you obviously have been lucky - ive not logged on once without having something said ( usually along the lines of 'hey you gold fucker/faggot/snob/geek' etc ) theirs not many gold who hang around banff so the greys just love it when one of them logs in, also in 1/2 the games ive played ive had n00b spam, shout, scream, swear, run etc.

just logged on their, first thing i see
pd14:HOMO

not ment towards me ( some other poor gold whos getting abuse for paying for the game ), but it just shows you the usual kind of things going on in the banff server.

any other banff gold players here who feel the same about the kiddie problem?

I don't really care if newbs run. And I have been called "gay" i think once every 30 games or so.

Nothing worse than that. I guess my luck in who I play is better than the luck I get during play.

I agree with ya. I wasn't in the lobby for 30 secs and I saw this guy call golds pansies. I won't give his name coughmo fo mo fo 2cough. He was a n00b with just one win and was talking smack. So I had to tell him off. Eventually I won the debate but he really pissed me off. Free accounts need to stop being jealos and cough up five bucks, or just get out.

I agree that imaturatiy is a porblem, as it is with all internet games. There's only one solutino that i can think of:

We need to issue keyboards all over the world that will take blood samples of the user to find out their age, and then electrically shock them if they are under 16 and try to play TAO.

Any solution other than this one is futile, and unfortunately ineffective. A more sophisticated chat system with the ability to squelch users would be nice though. Oh... and i like the chat systems that keep a list of people you squelch so even if they log out and log back in, they'll still be squelched.

I like the part about squelching but I'm 12 and I never: act immature, say bad stuff about golds, (I actually like playing them with my free account), or say pointless taunts. I'm just here to play the game and have some fun. (Read my thread, the one called: Something I hate... REALLY HATE.)

I've played a six year old (that gave me a run for my money!) that was extremely mature and fun. And I've played 22 year olds that need their teeth replaced with soap. So it isn't age...

Taunting doesn't bother me, nor does the cheering or cursing. It gives a more human face to the game.

But some of these people are foul, and unimaginative. Let's face it - assholes have a important purpose. The true insult is calling somebody an appendix!

hmmm... like our Forum God KuBan used to comment when TAO first started... "Who's more immature? The one who trash talk, or the one that argues back?"
By calling him a retard you provide him with an erection thus reinforcing him to continue.
At our server the serious players have learned that the best policy is to ignore them (I would not assume they are just kids, some adults are sometimes like that too, so do not be prejudiced). I understand they are annoying, and ignoring is difficult, but usually after a few minutes of no one responding to the spam, the spammers' fingers get tired.
