I never understood why we can't pay directly through credit card. Meaning, type in our credit card information, get it verified, and be signed up. Can someone explain this to me?

Yes. In order to receive credit cards, you have to first have a merchant account setup. That is a somewhat complicated procedure, that has a myriad of legal liabilities.
By having all credit card payments go through Paypal, FPS and Seed avoid all the legal and technical compications of a merchant account.
There is also the matter of the fees of a merchant account, which work very similarly to the Paypal system. They would not be saving money by taking credit cards directly, and in the long run, could actually run into a lot more trouble for doing so.
