New Forum Contest!

Hey guys, as you can see the new forum has been put into effect. It has a TON of new options you really have to explore around to find them all.

I am going to play around in the admin console tonight and unlock more options suited towards TAO.

In the meantime this color scheme/buttons are just placeholders.

I am hoping a few photoshop/designers might be interested in a little contest.

Post your examples of what you think TAO whould look like, include hex values of your colors.

-50 "fiddy" USD to the winner if picked from these forums. Winner to be picked by me, based on member feedback.
-Include button set and layout.
-You need to be pay pal member to get paid.

From there we will pick a new look for the tao forums. You can also request changes in this thread and I will mod this forum as you guys see fit.

well the new colour must be white like the one u have bills on the flash player or black and blue not this color
the member color admins must be red,mods must begreenand members must be near by gold colour

there are alot of things that i think bills need to clean up in mirror server but i think until now u did a good job even waaay better then me or everyone else*i am no one* :D

Seriously though, while the new upgrades and functions are nice, I always liked the easy laidback coloring of the forum. It was easy to see, and well balanced. The buttons were nothing fancy, and got the job done.

That design is too busy (the green goo-like stuff is weird) but it's better than this.

I'm thinking lime green and black (00FF00 and 000000), my favorite color scheme, but some people don't go for that. I think you should have a pole on the colors, and then have the contest for someone to make the best skin with those colors.

Once a color is decided upon, I would make and enter some buttons, but I don't want the rejected because people don't like the color.

well im not good at making them but if you goto IFTomatoes (http://www.iftomatoes.com), they have some really good skins their. Perhaps you could talk to the publishers, but it is basicly for invision forum skins, i use them for clan forums, check it out.

Neon green is not a good color here.
The forums should be colored much the same as the game, to keep continuity going. Black, light gold, and dull yellow, with grey somewhere in there was a great combo. Buttons and graphics with game related images would be cool too.

Bills, can you take a shot of the current hex values for the board, so people can see what they need to work with?

The idea is for YOU to design new colors and buttons, not just steal them off others forums as you see fit. Most forums specifically forbid you from ripping off their designs.

Hey Bills. Can you email me all the smiley and button graphics from the vBulletin system. I will post a page with them all there, so people know how many and what buttons are needed, as well as what they need to be able to do. Right now people are tending to get lost figuring out what buttons they need to make, as vBulletin does not support outside suppurt at all, and no one here happens to have a vBulletin they can use as a template to check.

Also, could you screenie the current vBulletin stylesheet page? A screenie of what is there, and current values, would help people understand which sections are there that need done.

And since I KNOW the Invision statistics, and the proboard statistics, and the phpbb statistics, but DON:T know the vBulletin statistics, it is in the interest of all to find them out.
I have no reason to try and look good, other than to continue helping the community, which I have been doing for far longer than you ro Bills have been here lately.

Yeah, even after logging into the site, and verifying the account, I can't access a single file there.
All we need is the list of files in the button directory, I guess we an get the rest off the source file. But without a list of the buttons, people might miss one in the designs.

The biggest problem with most of the "templates" is that most people like the clean look of white.. and don't change the images.. and when you make your own images the default "gradient" for behind images is white. In keeping with the TAO darker than life feel.. you have to create a new.. or modify by colors.. man some of them whites are brighter than my bleached socks.

-The forum needs to have more smiles icons...( add in)
-Have a chat bar....
-And the forums... the comercials are a little bet annoying but if u need to have it well ok.And you know the top part it says brought to you by flash player studios inc, that color should be gold or red :)
-The script and others is good,and the only thing that needs to be change is the way that u have to reply.....u know the part that says quick reply i think u need to delet that one

You mean a shoutbox? We have chat in the game, and we have an IRC channel.
The banner ads help defray the costs. Just get an adblocker and they are gone.
The color doesn't matter too much. It is part of the logo.
Clicking to activate the quick reply allows you to quote the post you want. That is a good thing.

The greys are the good part of it. The colors are dull, because that is a good forum color. All the bright crappy colors are too annoying to look at all day.

No. First, that is not exactly an original color formatting. And second, those buttons are stock buttons, not one made up for the contest. Stop trying to get credit for others work. I have seen those buttons in many other forums. At least try and be original, or find ones not used much to steal.
