Well now that we are actually getting updates, I would say that a balance pass would be an appropriate course of action. The elimination of the extra scout was a good idea and brought a more tactical aspect back to the game. However, the Stone Golem has not been addressed.
The fact is that the Stone Golem is overpowered, to the point where you are forced to include it in your set up to even be competitive against other golds. If you examine all of the set ups of the more experienced players, including the set ups that have won the tourneys, you will always find a Stone Golem. It quite simply should not be a required piece to play with.
Now I know everyone plays with a cleric, but it has a low HP level to compensate for its usefulness, the Stone Golem has no such weakness. It is very hard to kill a Stone Golem, a problem made even worse with the elimination of the second scout. The use of a barrier ward just further accents the already existing problem.
I do not know if the Golem Ambusher will help the Stone Golem problem, but the units strengths and weaknesses as a whole still need to be addressed.

I agree that it is a very useful unit. However, if you take off it's focus, it becomes a hassle to re-stone everyting. It's slowness creates the problem of only getting one good stone in. Also, once you have it down to the stoney, they should surrender at that point. If not, it is a lengthy but nevertheless easy kill.

The problem is, it becomes increasingly hard to take it out of focus. You now only have one scout, plus the furgon, plus a barrier ward. And if you do hit it, it will be far from and can just restone the people around it.

Ironically, with the new additions of units and the fact that we are KEEPING the second scout, stone golems are becoming somewhat less dominant

I was not aware that we are keeping the second scout. I thought Bills clearly stated that it was going to be taken away.
The Stone Golem will not become less te with the new units. Sure it might be easier to break its focus, but it still will be a required piece in many competitive gold formations. While the concept of the unit is great, you shouldn't have to use it to win.
EDIT:
Here (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12159)is where I got the impression that we were losing the scout. I have not read through the whole thread, so I don't know if Bills changed his mind.

Tech, you are 2 days late in finding out that it was all a joke Bills was playing.
We are keeping the second scout, and at this time there are still no plans for Furgy drops. Bushy has arrived, and with a 6 range. no LOS, can be used to de-stone with some good results.
But i agree, that 60 hp with 30 armor is WAY hard to kill off, which is why it is usually the last one there.

Ahh, I was pretty sure that I was missing something.
But my point still stands, I think the Stone Golem needs a nerf, maybe something as simple has not allowing it to armor itself would be an appropriate fix.

The ability of the SG to survive is not the problem I thought you were trying to address. If it is... just wait till everything else is dead, and if your opponent is foolish enough to keep playing, just kill it.
As for it's "dominance" and the need for one in every form, I would completely disagree. It is evident to me that over the past month or so we have seen a huge shift away from turtles and stone golems. heck.. fight me and I will show you many a form that is just fine without one.

As I stated before, I was unsure of the effect that the new unit(s) would have on the Stone Golem, due to the fact that I am not Gold as of this moment. If this "shift" that you refer to is because of the new unit, then I have no problem with Stone Golem.
I just don't like any unit being a required part of a formation, which the Stone Golem was when I was gold.
If this has changed, I stand corrected.
