Perhaps... but we've only had one Gold account on the new one and we need a lot more to get another server.
Or we could put banners on the site....

Ya know, the new server isn't too hard to get in at the moment, but banners would be.... okay..... I just (and I think I'm speaking for everyone) think that the site is awesome right now, being so simple and blunt. Nothing flashy, just a great game and site....
That's just my opinion I guess...

Yea, I don't really want any ads cluttering this site...but why don't we put some banners up FOR the site? :D

It is already hard enough to get into this game, what with addictinggames.com making it one of the top games of the week. If banners got put up for the site, it would just get more hectic.

I'm all for this idea. Why not spread banners thoughout the net for TAO???
Also, with the recent Bills siting, i thought a post from him would help.....

banners are a bad idea. Bad bad. Banners would get in the way of the game. Having them on the site is fine though. Just in case you needed my permission to have them here, when they already are...

You didn't see anything, you got me?

No, we're talking TAO banners on OTHER sites. For advertising.

Oh right... you could make it part of your promotion thread! The one about game review sites...

In my opinion putting up banners will attract more players but i'd really like to see the figures between how many gols there are compared to regular greys... Perhaps it's time to give the golds more stuff or the greys less stuff to increase the conversion rate from grey to gold.
Jeffery

I agree. I think Grey Accounts vs Gold accounts is like 2%. This accounts for those with multiple accounts.
At least I think that was the number.
The next competition I am going to run will be a referral competition, where whoever gets the most golds to sign up will get something or another.
This will definetly increase the business, and not just the traffic.

Yeah, we don't need more people, we need more golds. *Realizes he's a grey* Meh...

Yeah, in a lot of cases the greys really want to go grey, but they're too young to get it without parental support, and they can't get that.

Um... Suurreeee.
But many greys are too young to get GOLD. But that is a fact of life online.
But there are plenty that are old enoguh, and they should be encouraged.

Yeah definitely... I think it's a very fine line between pissing greys off so they don't play and encouraging them to go gold. But i think that the moment not enough is being done to make people want to change.
I mean it's a very addicting game but there are so many strategies you can do with just a grey formation that many people don't need to upgrade...
I wouldn't reccomend having a fixed formation or restricting how many games they can play but something should be done...

Well as long we are necro posting we should probably grab the OTAOCP thread.
Serge

Yeah, if I could go gold I probably would, it's not that much money, but me mum won't let me. Three years! Just three more years!
This post reminds me of Wurtil's thread. Real old and stuff.

Okay the only problem with that is the TAO is damn near dead and most certainly would be a rotting zombie of a website in 3 years. The only real reasons to go gold:
1. A pathetic notion of "status"
2. It adds alot more depth to the game

Yeah, and a gold referring competition would probably be a good thing, as long as the prize was sufficiently juicy.

"Real old and stuff"
^That made my day.
EDIT: I meant three years untill I will be hopefully away at college and won't have to worry about my mom telling me what to do as much, duh!

Like perhaps the right to beat Seed until he releases an update for the game?
Jeffery

Actually, i think more parents would let their kids play and go gold if there was more ingame moderation.
If the offensive names and cursing was culled out, the game would be even more kid friendly. The swear filter does little to stop people, as they just get around it. Having a mod to warn them, then kick them if they do it has proven to work for IRC channels for many many years.
Omega_Paladin
09-02-2004, 12:05 AM
And what would help with that is a basic IQ test to weed out the morons. Now granted all three people left would have to support TAO on their own but I'm sure the game would be much improved.
Serge
09-02-2004, 12:06 AM
/me is one of those three.
Glamdring
09-02-2004, 12:07 AM
true, more in-game moderation would solve a lot of problems. As long as said moderators actually had the power to enforce their word.
"I'll tell DR on you" only works for so long.

Now she wants to be a mod with a taser....no good shall come from this.
Except for watching the charred corpses of noobs and morons twitchin on the floor. :D Other than that it will be bad though.
Jeffery
09-02-2004, 12:12 AM
How could it be bad? (Shut up xy)
How many spammers have you seen? A mod could stop that.
How many times have you seen inappropriate conversations? A mod could stoip that.
And mods would not be unlimited in their power. They would be held responsable for all their actions.
Omega_Paladin
09-02-2004, 12:14 AM
This is the point where choosing the mods becomes so important. When i was playing MW4 for a clan (and racking up some serious kills BTW...those were good times :D) there was a mod named Modocc on the servers. He was an ass. Ban you for no reason, swear up a storm then mute you for saying hell. But that was with Microsoft, perhaps with the much smaller TAO community, certainly the much smaller core player community, it would be better.

Yeah, I don't think of the current forum moderators would be to bad for the job.

I agreed. Abuse could happen yes. But that is a chance I would be willing to take to stop the abuse that IS taking place now.

Okay but how many are here with enough frequency to allow for atleast some type of continued coverage. And then they would have to be in the game rooms watching for such stupid things as we have mentitioned. Really your talking more like 10 people or so to really cover the problem. Don't forget you got 3 open servers and alot of knuckle heads.
Jeffery
09-02-2004, 12:23 AM
Yes, it would be some work to setup. But it would still imporve the game, especially for younger kids.
Omega_Paladin
09-02-2004, 12:25 AM
But then we come to the point that...
TAO IS A ROTTING ZOMBIE!!
SEED! UPDATE SOMETHING! I DON"T CARE IF ITS A NEW FONT FOR THE MEMBERS PAGE! ****! JUST POST! HOW ABOUT THAT!
Glamdring

In order to get the full coverage you're talking about here, You'd either have to have a lot more than 4 mods (you're talking about 4 servers here... 3 if you're assuming people in rev are fairly responsible), or you'd have to pay a few more than 4 mods to do it. People don't have the time to spend even 6 hours in the game ever single day for more than a few weeks without getting *really* burnt out.
Omega_Paladin
09-02-2004, 12:27 AM
Exactly, unless the game was inhumanly good enough to inspire people to commit that level of time to it (like it did for a while in the begining, mostly just because it was new) then the servers will stay the no mans land they are now.

In game moderation is the only way to stop people finding holes in the system because you can have a set of rules that can be judged on each individual situation that occurs. Yes there are problems in that but it'll fix more things to worry about potential problems.
And really. it's not enough to worry about having to cover all of it at the one time... Any effort is enough to make the place a little more user friendly.

In game moderation is more of a sponanteous type of filter. Its about taking a shot gun and clearing the room of dickheads.
