Ok before I get started, I might as well say I am a total html noob, and suck at web design. I got into it, because I wanted a site where I can keep some of my literal works, and post some of my friends. I use freewebs, because truthfully I do not know how to use much more. I know some of you guys are awesome with sites, so I decided to come here and ask for some advice. I will post the link to my site, I don't want to advertise, but I guess you can't help otherwise. Anyway the forums I have are old, when I made them with conjunction with samurai. Please disregard them. I don't want you to say "this sucks" because I know that, I just want to know how to make it better. Thanks alot.

I say don't bother making your own site. Submit your writings on www.wab-zine.com. A place designed for people to host their literary works :).

Ouch Amaroth. The site is ok. Looks like basic freewebs. I've seen worse. Why don't you try a different background and take out the "cool people" section?

Shit! I completely forgot 'bout you! Didn't I say I was going to make a template for you? Er, I never finished it then... I got caught up in alot of other stuff (school). If you still want me to make you a template, I guess I may be able to. Just that it'd be alot of work for me seeing as though you don't know much html.

I see you use another program tama. Is that easy to use? I sort of got ms frontpage, if that counts for anything lol.

Wab-Zine was a paid for program.

Also, all of the updated buttons and stuff on that site is made by me and updated by Jeffery.

I don't really use any programs for the actually coding. Frontpage sucks. I do have Dreamworks which came with the school laptop, but I haven't really looked too much into it. I'm fine with just typing the code up myself.

Cool, I suppose I can try. But what I have been asking, is what program I can use that is better than freewebs, but still slightly newb friendly.

Couldn't say it better myself. Use Notepad, nothing more.

That is... if you're serious about it.

Actually, php-nuke is a free system that anyone may download and insert into a website.
But you need mySQL and phpadmin access on the server. That webspace is what costs the money, as well as an actual domain name.

And it actually has little html.

It uses php and css stylesheets, as well as javascripting, to build the blocks and modules.

Well, I started off with expage. It's a shitty program, but it's great for people who are very new to websites. It doesn't really have a table function so I would suggest next Freewebs. I see that you did yours in Freewebs, and used one of the premade templates. I, myself, wouldn't use freewebs unless you have a lot of content and it doesn't look so graphic intensive. After freewebs I started with Geocities.com. I started with the pagebuilder function on that website. It's pretty simplistic and it allows to create your website by point and click. I now do all my websites in raw html. I only use Geocities to host my sites.

Program...? Are you looking for a new host other than freewebs, or a program to make stuff on? Check out http://www.100webspace.com/ for a good host, if that's what your looking for. I don't know if there are templates there or not, if that's what your looking for. I believe there are, but still try and learn html.

Jeffrey, so you mean I can get some of that you have, except free, and a lot worse, can you please tell me more, I have nothing against using dot tk, or having popups.

I think I've seen something like that on http://www.100webspace.com/, though I don't know what that stuff is so I can't be sure.

But jeff, how did you get that cool ezine, or whatever it is. It has so many cool features, this 100 megs is sweet also, but does anyone know whether I should keep anything that is already on my site?

The formatting for WaB is a php-nuke http://phpnuke.com
But you need a host to install it. Al uses a profesional hosting company with a heck of a lot more features. http://aqhost.com

Thanks to everyone for helping me, and thanks for being so kind in doing so. I apoligize for my n00bish life, but I am new to all this stuff. If you have any suggestions you can pm me or sign my guestbook or both. If you have any ideas for free web design then I would love to know. Why free? Well I don't have a credit card, and so I can't get anything that costs money. Thanks again, to Jeffrey and tama, and everyone else. See you guys later.

A little late...but needed nonetheless (spelling?)

Before you even sit down and cram your site with stuffs and what not...after you learn some basics and think you can stand on your own coding...you have to learn website rules and etiquette. I'll give you some...but once you figure out the rest...you know you'll be ready to launch a great site without any problems.

1. Absolutely needed in creating any site....is functionality. If you want a broad range of viewers/visitors....you're gonna need to make it "user friendly". I can't stress enough how much detail and time you need to consider when building a site. If you want your site to be viewed best by all the browsers out there....make it compatible with most of them. So you get a good balance of diversifyed (spelling again?) users.

2. Content, content, content! You have to have something that will appeal to not only yourself, but to everyone as well.

3. Style. DON'T...COPY...ANYONE ELSE! This will ruin your credibility and site instantly. It's ok if you're just starting out and you want to use scripts (http://www.dynamicdrive.com/) , but learn from them...don't just copy and paste.

4. Hosting. Get a great host. Jeffery posted some good hosts. So don't worry about that ^_^. Freewebs is good for beginners, but you'll soon realize...the better you get...the less freewebs will appeal to you.

5. Credit. Give it where/when it's due.

6. Updates. Do it as often as you can to keep the site fresh and interesting. People love to see updates and additions of your work.

7. Finally, if you're going to have downloads on your site....keep them clean if your site is booming. The Internet Privacy Act does not exist! for warez content.

Hope this helps

Much my thoughts. He came in nicely, asked nicely, and took the criticism's nicely.
Hence, most of us treated him nicely.

And Slip, righto old chap.
