Signature Size Limits

Just a friendly reminder on banner sizes out there. Some banners are overly large, while others are numerous in nature. This really hasn't been a huge problem, but with more and more people coming to the forums, We thought it would be good to set some guidelines.

All in all, just use your common sense. Use these following guidelines if you still have quesitons.

A) Keep it to one banner

B) 600 width x 140 height maximum (keep it friendly for our low-res members)

C) Nothing Obscene or vulgar. Keep it PG-13.

D) No more than 1 or 2 lines in addition to your banner (you cannot change the font size). Quote = 2 lines. Standard size userbar = 1 line.

E) If your banner is smaller than the maximum size, you can add additional lines of text - but it still cannot exceed the maximum size of 600 width x 140 height + 2 lines of regular text.


Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in your banner being removed by a moderator. If you still do not follow the rules your account will be banned.

Not only is it 10 pixels too big, but you have 3 lines of text instead of the limit of 2 lines.

I just decided to view signatures again (for fun!) and have noticed that many of you have either not read the rules, or don’t care about following them.

So....in 24 hours I’m going to begin deleting any signature which does not fit in with the regulations. I'm hoping that after doing this a page will take 2 seconds to load rather than 2 bazillion years.

Other sites such as Pornography sites are also not allow.

Maybe give a little leeway(sp?), instead of deleteing all the active users signatures? I think it'd cut down on your work and make the forums a much nicer place. Having gone over by 10 or less pixels shouldn't be a huge problem. Personaly my whole signature was removed for having a 320 x 140 signature, because I had a black space above, a black space below, and one TAO quote below that. (Basicaly a standard size sig, within the set size restrictions, and 3 extra lines instead of two).

It doesn't bother me that much, but I think its a little rediculous to go all-out strict like that.

Right click on the banner and go to properties - it will tell you there if it is too big.

I was alittle annoyed because I didn't see this and therefore didnt get time to edit. I was 2 or 3 lines over without realising. I managed to get everything back by going into Work Offline and going to the Si thread where I posted with my sig intact earlier. I did some editing on it and it now fits the rules, it just doesn't look as good. It seems, bare....:(

@Buster: yea, having a quote or code thing in your sig takes up about 3 lines more than whatever's in the quote. So your sig had like 5 lines of text, not including the one next to your banner.

Hmm, although I understand burnings motive's, I don't understand how it makes that much of a difference. I think the banner rules should be abit more leniant. Ie, unless it actually generates a problem then remove it, but otherwise you'd have to have a really bad connection to cause a problem, and if its that bad, then no matter how small people's sigs are it's still gonna take along time to load.

And how is me having a few more lines of text gonna diffrienciate(sp?) from having a rotational banner and userbar. If anything, that takes up more bandwidth but is still within the rules simply because of it's size (Luckily my rotations don't cause lag simply because of the stupidly high bandwidth on my hosting xD)

Heck, what I'm proposing here is that the rules are set in stone, yes, but there is REASONABLE leniancy about it like I said. Mods are human, and they should be able to judge what is reasonable and what isnt.. But not specific leniancy, not leniancy like "You can be 10px over but no more" because you'll end up with the situation you explained, but reasonable leniancy. Its all dependant on the banner. Look at mine, it's all within the rules, but the bandwidth used by it would probably surpass that of say, Dape's, but his is 10px larger than the limit. See what I'm getting at here?
