Due to the early date of the wipe this month, the second Tao Race was cut to consist of only two rounds of eliminations. The results after the 2nd cut are final. Thank you for the interest / participation. :)

With a clear margin, Greyness is the winner of the Second Tao Race. Congratulations - quite a performance. Shiny, Terps, and CRX687 claim the 2nd through 4th place, as their entries survived to the very end.

I won't be running another Tao Race in the near future. It would be nice to have someone else coordinate the next one so that I too could participate, though. 8)

Standings after the first and second cut - final survivors:

Greyness of BGA (as SephBlade) 1260 .. 1305
Shiny Flors (as Shiny Florist) 1080 .. 1143
Terps of Strategic Insomniacs (as terps rock) 1003 .. 1038
CRX687 of netjak.com (as crx) 895 .. 1024

Second cut eliminees:

MtSlayer of Bushido Gaiden (as Berzerker) 970 .. 970
Red Fire of Bushido Gaiden (as Black Thunder) 875 .. 885
sooner4life (as Hitler's Fat Monkey) 876 .. 876

First cut eliminees:

tyu of Bushido Gaiden (as Dark Cloud) 812
GreenS@murai (as WhiteSamurai) 744
Cuathon (as cu) 738

Rules - the same as in Tao Race #1.

1. Fresh grey accounts only. Tournament started at the Dec 2nd wipe. New entries were accepted until the first cut, on Dec 13th.

2. Eliminations every four days or so. First one approx one week after the wipe.
2a. First cut took place as scheduled, on Dec 13th.
2b. Second cut approx. on Dec 17th.
2c. Third cut approx. on Dec 21st.
2d. Fourth cut approx on Dec 29th. No eliminations on Xmas eve.
2e. The fifth cut will take place on January 2nd, 2005, unless a wipe occurs before that time.

3. At each cut, all those who have failed to improve their ratings since the week before are eliminated. Of those who have made improved, the one with the lowest rating is eliminated. At the first elimination, 750 is the line of non-improvement as that is accessible without playing a single game.

4. Victory conditions:
- if only one player remains s/he wins.
- if all remaining players are eliminated simultaneously, the winner is the highest-rated amongst those with improvement since the week before; if none improved, then simply the highest-rated remaining participant.
- if some participants remain at the tournament to the very end, the one with the highest rating in the last elimination wins.

Shiny Flors is the current TAO Race Champion. Here are the complete results.

http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12171

Thanks for the kind words. I'll run the tournament if we get enough participation, unless someone else wishes to run it in which case I'll participate instead.

Despite the risks that were pointed out by many before the 1st Race, and which to the best of my knowledge did not materialise, the Race appears to be a viable tournament format. We'll see if TR2 happens.

Well, since many who join are usually Gold, I will at least need to know the name you will be using in this tournament. Someone having 1550 at the first cut would be rather startling.

I'll be offline until Monday the 6th. If the wipe happens before I return, so be it - the first elimination will then be on Dec 13th or so.

kensai
12-13-2004, 07:37 AM
The first elimination has been done.

The next cut will be on Dec 17th or so.

These were eliminated

# tyu of Bushido Gaiden (as Dark Cloud) 812
# GreenS@murai (as WhiteSamurai) 744
# Cuathon (as cu) 738

Cuathon and GreenS@murai were eliminated for non-improvement from 750.

tyu was eliminated for having the lowest ranking amongst those who had improved.

kensai
12-17-2004, 06:04 AM
Second cut took place as scheduled. The eliminees were MtSlayer and sooner4life for zero improvement since the previous cut, and Red Fire for the lowest rating amongst those who had improved.

We're down to four. One more cut before Yule, then a week or so before cut #4 so that no one will be eliminated on Dec 25th.

CRX687

i may be gold soon... so should i create another grey account or just drop from this race?

kensai
12-17-2004, 03:22 PM
A new account would be a new entry into the tournament, and hard-pressed to make it past the 3rd cut. In any case, no new entries are accepted after the 1st cut.

If you wish to continue, it's basically okay with me - just refrain from using the Gold units until the tournament is over for you. However, for me to accept it I'll need an explicit fine-by-me from the three others still in the tournament - that they accept that the playing field is level despite you playing with a gold account. Even refraining from using the new units, you will be listed as Gold in the lobby and the arenas, which affects the bouts you'll end up fighting.

Dropping out would be simplest, but if you wish to keep playing as if your account were grey, and the others accept this, I'll go along as well.

Greyness

You do know that the whipe is today????

kensai
12-17-2004, 03:51 PM
No, I did not. Typically the wipe is once a month; only 16 days have passed since the latest one.. but I suppose the powers that be can change the schedule as they wish, even though the effects on this Race were less than perfect.

Thus, we won't make it to the third cut after all, and the results after round two are the final results.

12-18-2004, 08:54 AM
dammit i had just got 1100+

Greyness
12-18-2004, 12:15 PM
I was going for 1400+

kensai
12-18-2004, 03:35 PM
Indeed. It would've been an awesome race, had there not been the interruption.

The end of December is probably not the best possible time to see who is who, so perhaps we'll try again early next year. Hopefully with someone else as tournament director, but if need be, I'll run it.

Season's Greetings to one and all.
