it's just a suggestion so don't cut my head off if you don't like it :)
I was wondering if you could use the rating you get from winning games to upgrade one of your units (increase it's speed , armor or whatever)
I understand it would mean a pretty great deal of extra work but I think it would make the game more attractive.
the upgrades should be lost if you fail to maintain your rating lever required.
and they shouldn't be too cheap.
you start at 750 rating if I'm not mistaking and get 16 for each win.
let's say I want to make my assasin walk 5 squares instead of 4.
one extra point of movement range could cost 100 experience (that is current experience - 750). so if I win 7 matches without losing I could upgrade my assassin to be faster.
and them maybe get another 50 experience to spend for another 10% to power. in order to keep my upgrades I must keep my rating above 900 (750 + 100 for range + 50 for power)
if it gets lower than that I will lose one of them automaticaly.
to avoid having a 1200 rating player with units upgraded acordingly pick on a newbie the floors could be used to diferentiate the players.
let's say the first 3 floors would be kept for 750-900 rating
4th floor for 900- 1100
and so on
if someone thinks this could be done and wants to talk some more about it I am waiting :)
I think it would make players more eager to win , winners more proud to have a great rating score and create some more diversity without adding new units which I think would be more difficult.

This would be a bad bad bad idea, as it would basically create a new game, where cheating is rewarded. Play yourself a bit more, and you not only can brag how you stole stats, but amped up your stuff too.
Also, amping up units would also be to large of a rewrite to the game. You are talking creating an entire new game engine, something I doubt Seed would be willing to do.
Another goof reason is that the units are designed as they are to give a certain amount of balance to the game. Changing their stats at will changes that balance completely.
Sounds like an idea for an RPG game, but this is a TBS.

Or lack thereof.

I don't know abot the cheating part but I guess there will always be someone to do that.
I don't understand why this would change the game so drasticaly. the cost of upgrading would be pretty great so I dpn't see why a plyer that won 10 games without losing any can't be rewarded with a knight that goes just a square further and kicks with 2 points more power.
and I did realise this was a TBS game. anyone played Disciples?! maybe you should . it's a TBS I enjoyed very much , with upgrades to units that makes what I sugested here look like absolutely nothing.

I think it's an awsome idea and to add a little RPG to the game would be great, it would definitely stimulate my playing, especially since I'm not so good and don't have an intention to become better if nothing's going to happen if I do.

You are so naive, my friend.
If you want a game that's more of an RPG, go play an actual RPG. It makes sense, doesn't it?
And I think improving your game is a reward in itself. It gives you the satisfaction of knowing that you are good.
I don't really play to gain stats or other materialistic things. I play for fun.

making rating more valuable would also make people think twice about surrendering . I am now after my 10th game in a row where the opponent surrendered after losing one unit.
I don't think it's much fun not being able to finish one single game or at least play it to the point where your victory is obvious.
as for improving your play. you still have to be a good player. the upgrades only give a little of your personal view. making just a little bit better what you think it's important for your style of play.
it won't make the game a rpg. the tactical view , your strategy will still be the most important thing.
oh well...
I have the sensation I'm barking up the wrong tree. so I'll give it a rest.
maybe someone will someday make this change. until then... back to see if I can get to play at least one game to the end.

And make a hell of a lot more people want to cheat. It's bad enough as it is.

That's very true, but it's likely you're playing some of the many n00bs that recently migrated here from addictinggames.com. Stick around for a while and play some of the veterans.

The units' current stats are set as they are for a reason. Certain units with even a slight increase in stats can overpower them beyone the point where the game has the element of reliability that strategy games require to be enjoyable.
A big part of strategy is planning ahead. If you don't know the stats of the units you will be facing then that becomes impossible.
it won't make the game a rpg. the tactical view , your strategy will still be the most important thing.
Of cousre it won't make the game entirely an RPG. However, it will be enough of an RPG to not be the game it was intended to be anymore.
And your strategy can be made useless because you don't know whether an opponent's knight will have 3 or 4 movement points, or something similar. It will essencially be random, which is not what you want as the most important element of a game.
maybe someone will someday make this change.
Don't count on it.
this is why this idea sucks
think of it like this a n00b who cheats repeadedly gets a knight with 60 power 10 speed and 50% armor the nhe dosnt cheat and domnates the game
