View Full Version : What Religion Do You Follow?

With all the recent debate over religions, I'd like a simple poll. Please keep all debate to a separate thread, found here (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=13596).

If you select other, please specify. (Agnostic, satanist, atheist, etc...)

Try to keep it civil and honest.

Also, I tried to pick some of the more common ones I've seen around here, I apologize if I left yours out. It was unintentional.

EDIT: I'm sure, by now, most of you know my beliefs.

IMO most of the evidence seems to point towards there being no god.

However, I'll admit there is a possibility that god exists.

So, I'd say I'm an agnostic, but leaning towards atheism.

Well, being a children's pastor at a Southern Baptist church, I guess I have to vote Baptist. Although, I'm not too particular on what Christian denomination you are. As long as you got the basics right, it's all good. Most denominations differ only in the ceremonies, traditions, and beliefs on non-salvation doctrine which in the end will be sorted out with time.

But yeah, I'm Southern Baptist.

Next time, set it so members can see who voted what please.

I voted "Other" as I am a non-denominational Christian. I believe in God, but think men generally screw it up with their own petty rituals.

Other, non religious. Until I see some better proof, I am not going to take for granted that one guy, 2000 years ago, proves that there is a god.

I have to say that I'm non-religious. I respect other people's beliefs and they're all possible since no one really knows what happened, but I definately don't believe that there is a higher power. I believe that everything that happens is the fault and pride of mankind. (wow, i sound like a preacher. I don't mean to!) Anyways, I voted other.

Other: Atheist.

Personally I've always wondered were this "god" fellow came from. Was there just nothing then *pop* this super-natural being appeared out of nothing?

I also keep away from churhes. It seems there always loudly proclaiming that anyone in any other churches will burn in hell.

i feel i need to make a bit of a correction here

Baptist, Presbyterian, pentocostal, lutheran, methodist, assembly of God, etc.

these are all different "denominations" of the same religion...Protestantism

people who worship in the form of any of these are all Protestant.

they are not different religions though...they all require a profession of faith that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and that He was a product of a virgin birth...and His sole purpose was to become the ultimate sacrifice for the sin of all mankind

btw...this is where I stand in my religious beliefs

I also believe that Catholics and Jews worship the same God as Protestants...I just believe that their emphasis's(?) are wrongly placed. This does not mean, though, that I do not believe they will not be present in heaven

I know this shouldn't have been placed here...sorry Aro...but i get kinda riled up when i hear or see someone try to say that many of the denominations of Protestantism are different religions...same religion...different way of worship...that is all

I'll lay down whatever religion I follow. I believe in God. I believe Jesus came did everything stated in the Bible including dying and coming back to life. I attempt to set all my moral and ethical values based on the Bible. I do a pretty crappy job at it but at least I have a written guideline to somewhat help guide my life. Anyways, I pretty much stopped attending my church about 4 months ago. I did this not due to any religious reason, but instead of the people. That's what ruined it for me. The gossip, the cliques, and a few other things of that nature. I do my worshiping of what I believe is God through my completely blind faith on my own time by myself. Usually it's early in the morning, sometimes I try to get up an hour early just to read through a few pages in the Bible to help further my beliefs. Call it what you want, or feel free to criticize. It matters not to me because it's what I am. I will never change for anyone. People will accept me for who I am or they can leave. Simple enough, eh?

No, it's not! By tomorrow a thousand missionaries from every religion on earth, mars, and the southern half of jupiter (the northern half is low-tech and will take a week to reach you), will be pounding on your door for the chance to pick up a lonely misguided soul!

And I'm disturbingly close to the truth

I'm an atheist, who sympathizes with agnostics. I believe that there is no god, but i understand that there is no way to end the argument on either end. Logically, i would have to say that everyone should be agnostic. But there's a gut feeling that tells christians that there is a God, and i think that same gut feeling tells me that there is no god.

I too question the categories in this poll. I would have had the following:
Hindu
Jew
Christian(catholic)
Christian(orthodox)
Christian(protestant)
Muslim
Buddhist
Atheist
Agnostic
Other(specify)

other/ agnostic i believe in a higher power i define him on my own terms, and by my own beliefs. technically every religion started out as agnostic, its just that people started to like what they heard, im not sure if anyone else understands what i meant, but i derive most of what i believe from eastern culture, and philosophy, such as william blake, taoism(ironic isnt it).buddhism, and confucinism

You'll notice that I chose options that most of the people on this forum would follow.

Not many around here are Islamic, Hindu, or Buddhist. I'm not taking a national poll.

Other.

While I am what would be termed a Christian, I do not fit into any of the above categories. The believers with whom I gather claim no allegiance to a denomination, as we don't see that in the Bible. As a group, we try to model ourselves on the way that the believers in New Testament times worshipped, inasmuch as it was in accord with how it was laid out by the apostles. Doctrinally, I would say that the closest match is Baptist, but there are some differences.
