Tip 1 and tip 5 conflict. If they can't be better than you, they must be worse. That would mean that in looks, they are less attractive. But if you can't date anybody uglier than you, you can't really date anybody.

There are times when looks are not the first impression, such as when people ahve talked via phone and internet before actually meeting.

But in the stricly real world sense, when you first see a person, you do make assumptions about them. How they look does affect how you treat them.
