I remember coming on to Tactics Arena Online the first time it showed up on Addictinggames.com. That was back in the win-loss-tie format and it was a fun game. I was a noob, but I think I refrained from asking the noob questions. I didn't get into the forums until DWarrior made this slanderous thread against me about the worst game I've ever played on TAO (him stalling for an hour and a half to get me to disconnect.) I went from Knights of Talazar clan, to the Force (good times with nomar :) ), to netjak and finally on my grey accounts as the leader of the Gold Jumpers. Those were the best times I've had here on TAO, besides a couple of friendships I had at the height of my game-playing days. But life happens.

So, like many who have come before me, and quite a few that will come after me, I regret to turn in my formal resignation to the TAO community. I still enjoy the game, especially playing as a default grey against golds (hulky beat me in my last official TAO game as a gold against my default grey, Nothing Special. Quite appropriate since the Gold Jumpers beat Hot Bread in a war back in the day. Retrobution I guess.)

I want to thank a couple of people.

First off, thank you to everyone who has shown concern in my life and in the status of my son. Northwinds, thank you for the references. Others who have told me their stories and experiences, thank you for trusting me to listen and giving me hope. Autism isn't so scary anymore and I can't thank you enough for your support.

I then want to thank my friends in netjak and SI. Like I said, I joined Netjak back when we merged with the Force and I never regretted it. I love the passion the clan shows. I also enjoyed the competition we had with SI. I respect most of the members of SI not only for their great tactical mind, but for their humanity. Thanks to Rogue for many enjoyable games back in the day.

Next, I want to thank those who joined me on my silly crusade to keep golds honest, the Gold Jumpers. Cephas, _bob_, Lord Ducki, Roody, nads, blud, loveisred, and numerous others who are perhaps the best greys to ever play this game. It still amazes me some of the wins that _bob_ pulled off. I apologize to any golds that I may have offended (I know of at least 2) thinking that I was trying to drive golds away from the game. My intention was to make the golds on TAO better and not feast of new greys. I think I succeeded on Banff. It was fun. Thank you also to my hero, Glamdring, for making the original Gold Jumpers clan on Great Lakes. My gratitude is forever to you.

Those I consider my friends I wish to thank for making this a great game to play: Bottle, nads, blud, Cephas, dim, ducki, nomar, OMK, Look Look, Wack, Search, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a few. Then there are my closest friends, DR, Julia, Catra and Hugh. I spent endless nights up until 3 am talking to you when I had to get up for work at 6:30 am. They were good times. Hugh, you are way too kind. Thank you for your generousity for so long. DR and Julia, thank you for your friendship and thinking I was an ok guy. I'm sorry I wasn't here when everything blew up, but I pray that you life is better for it. Catra, what can I say to you? I know things change and it's sad. I am sorry, truly. Check your pm's.

Finally, to the community at large. Thank you for letting me be silly, be sarcastic and be an avenger for lowly greys. I have had lots of laughs and think the fun is still here on the forums if you look for it. I apologize to anyone I offended and forgive anyone who ever offended me (Walrus, especially sorry. You aren't as bad as I first thought.)
In the words of DivineRight, may you get that block when you most need it and never be blocked in return.

I really regret not being on Banff enough lately to have been able to chat again like the old times.
We never did get our game in either, did we?

I'll miss you! Make sure to check in from time to time. :)

I consider you a friend, Med. It's been a great experience getting to know you over this past year. You are one of the absolute best people I've met here and I'm really going to miss your wicked sense of humor.
I honestly and sincerely wish all the best for you and your family. You deserve it. If you ever feel like shootin' the bull, you know where to find me.
Take care and God bless.

Well, Medemia, I never knew you, but are you still gonna be active on the forums and not play the game?

or

Bottle told me about this on MSN.

This is something I'm willing to post again for.

Med, you're amazing. Your sarcasm made me fall of my chair dozen of times.

Best of luck with your family and your life.

Medemia... I'm not much for these types of speeches, but I've been saying "farewell" far too often lately.

I've not only appreciated you for your commitment to the game AND netjak; but also as my personal mediator. You have always quietly softened my rash tone and balanced out my "intensity". I've always appreciated that quality in you...

You'll desperately be missed, my friend.

Man, I know I don't know alot of people here on the forums and this thread just about takes the biscuit. I am not as saddened as others, but disappointed for not having taken the time to get to know some of you, in this case Medemia. You'll be missed...

Boy, its seeming more and more like my retirement needs to be finalized. No wonder I haven't seen you on my infrequent visits to Banff. Med, I wish you the best in life, and more importantly, in your walk with God.

I'd like to stay in touch, shoot me an email to my hotmail address (saphis@hotmail.com), I'll give you my gmail (which because of wierd stalkers like Foundation I will not post here). Did I miss something relating to your son in my absence? I saw a reference, and I don't recall reading anything...

All the best Squig, and may you do a better job of staying retired than me!

damn, im gettin a little concerned about tao and people leavin. how much longer can this happen?

Bottle
01-18-2005, 02:05 PM
Until all of us leave, and Bills finally realises that TAO is not, in fact, running smoother than it ever has before.

Oh, how silly of me! Of course, the less customers he has, the less complaints he gets, so TAO is bound to run more smoothly!

Seeya Med..

I had some good times thumping Golds in the name of GJ on the Lakes, and that was your doing. So thanks. You helped out all of TAO by founding the Gold Jumpers, and you're one hell of a guy. I'll miss you man. Good luck in life.

Argh... had a response and it didn't like it. Take II

It's nice to know that one can have an impact no matter how little time they spend in a place if they just be who they really are and not try to hide behind an internet persona. Thank you for your kind comments. I truly do appreciate them.

Now some specific replies:
Cephas, yes, my 3 yr old son has Autism. Hugh probably remembers the night I came on all distraut because we learned the diagnosis that day. But you know, even with Autism, he is still my son and he is one special boy with some special talents. If he wants to play TAO in 10 years, beware. He'd put his daddy to shame I'm sure.

I remembered one person I forgot -- Twelve. How dare I? Twelve, you are too good to forget and definately too good to go back and edit my original text just to throw you in. Thank you for being a friend and a brother. I'm sure we'll see each other again.

Catra, thanks. Tag, you're it.

nads, I'm at 83 right now, just in case you wanted to know. Let's see if we can get that down to 12! Thanks for the gesture though :)

I'll be around sometimes to say hi, but my game playing days are though :(

I can't say that I'm sorry to hear it, because of the promises of God. I'm sure you've heard Romans 8:28 mentioned more times than you can count recently, so I won't repeat it . I trust that you will never stop going to the Rock for rest and calm in the storms that rage around you. I imagine that I can sympathize to a certain extent, my second son was born at a gestational age of 25 weeks, weighing 1lb 13.5oz. By the grace of God, he has defied all of the doctors' dark predictions for his future. Is the autism light, or extreme (forgive me if this is not something that can be told at this point, I'm not incredibly familiar with autism).

Like I said earlier, keep in touch. Shoot me an email! (saphis@hotmail.com)

Yeah, I never have :) Well, I still haven't played a game since I made this announcement although my forum time has gone up. I thought about this, and so... as I previously said, Hulky was my last game. But now I've got some flames and all is good :)

Thanks again for the kind sentiments.
