On top of the 1 minute limit per turn
There should also be an 30 minute total limit for each player.

This way if 2 player are truly playing, they can play up 1 hour - which i think should be way more than enough.

If one is wasting time on purpose, then he/she can only waste up to 30 minute.

Detailed Plan

Once it is the player A's turn, the 30 minute clock would run.
If player A took 29 seconds to complete his turn, then player A have only
29 Minute and 31 second left on his total time, which will continue again on player A's next turn.

The 1 minute per turn limit run at the same time.

Not nearly enough. I've played 2 hour games.

I have had a 90 minute game before.

Half an hour is too short especially if you are in a strategic turtle game because they take thinking and a long time to play if your against another skilled turtler.

Half an hour is just too short.

So have I aro, but man they take a lot out of you don't they? Mine was with falco, now that guy is a player.

Personal note to Aro... I miscalculated your number on that little message I sent you. Looks like someone else gets the honors.

I will fight all suggestions to lower time limits to the ends of the earth!

I use my time, and I like it!

time is money...is a business phrase.

Your playing a game..I don't see how saving urself a bit of time here will = money.

Anyways, I'll explain it up for yah a bit and see if this helps.

first, just beause they using their time, doesn't mean its stalling.
Sometimes, players with slower connections, use up a lot of time simply because of a delay to their comp (lag).
Other times, they're ACTUALLY using the time. Chess is the closest equivalant to tao I see, and ppl take their damn time playing it. I take at least half my minute most turns when I'm just casually palying. If I'm focusing, I'll take almost the whole thing most turns. You need to consider each move. Do u attack with the scout? Which unit? move it too? if so, where? Which direction to face?

The strategic thinking in the game is to anticpate your opponents move and plan youself accordingly. A proper player will be thinking at LEAST 5 or 6 turns in advance (in my mind). Even beginner players should go for 3 (caster/dragon standard recovery rate). That kind of planning can't be rushed, so we use our time.

Does this help show where the ppl are coming from?

Look at the users who hav spoken against adjusting the time limits. Lots of experienced players there, they hav a similar mindset in that as to what I've described. Because playing quickly and with such stringent limits makes for sloppy games. I can say with confidence I've NEVEr lost to someone who complained I played slowly, or that I was wasting time. I'm sure the others can say the same.

i had a 2 hour match cuz he had a lw and 2 knights i had a cleric and 2 bwards and my bwards trap my cleric in corner, and he was spanish, so i couldn't tell him to draw the game so it went on for an hour then he left

I had a 2 hour game.... we got down to 8 units a piece, then just sort of walked our knights and scouts around for an hour and a half without killing anything (we got each other's scouts down to 9 each, but could never kill them)

I offered to draw after half an hour, an hour, and an hour and a half of no unit kills, but he was playing "for the drop" which hadn't actually shown up....

so I left

Except... if you go for thirty turns without anyone getting hit, it's a draw

oh... hehehe... that's pretty funny then.

I thought you meant he was just moving his guys around randomly with no purpose.

Next time try barriering your own wards to see if he gets the hint that he can't break through :)

I laugh in Megabyte's face.

I admit maybe 1 hour total isn't enough, but i stand my point as we should have a total time limit.

Megabyte talked about - "Chess is the closest equivalant to tao I see" .
Then he should know in all chess tournment, they all time their move, and they have time limit. I personally am a semi-pro-chess player, in one of the tournment i have been, they use the 10/5 rule - you have 10 minute in total, and for each move you make you get extra 5 seconds. I don't hear no one complaint about that.

Maybe for you, time isn't a factor, but have some consideration for all other players. They came to tao for a relaxing game, instead, they are traped by some noob, who's intention is to keep him there for the next 2-3 hours.
Don't you hate that?????

For those who like to play 2-3 hour game, and say they are ACTUALLY using their time, why don't you all go to hell, cause obviously, you have no life.

O, by the way - i am only a stat 1451 GREY account(if that helps).

Office_Shredder

actually, knowing that you're such a high rated player doesn't help.

Why do you say that people who like to play a 2-3 hour game have no life? Does someone have no life because they enjoy playing a game? Or does wanting to do anything for more than 15 minutes at a time make them have no life? Maybe we should all just get ADD?

You say you're a semi-professional chess player.... how many completely amateur, playing chess for fun, players do you see using the 10/5 rule? Probably not a lot. When you play chess for complete FUN, and nothing but fun, there's no reason to force games to only take 10 minutes... if you enjoy playing chess, you should enjoy playing chess for 2 hours also. In a tournament, they have time limits because if the game takes forever they can't get to the next round. Time limits really aren't very fun.

aye,

if u want tournament style rules and time rules, organize a tournament in TAO using them. That'd actually be kinda interesting.

But normal playing day-to-day ppl don't want to hav such limitations. Time limts, even relaxed ones, are limitations to the game.

todays lesson for dragon = multitasking. When u play a long game, multitask. I've typed up articles, read a book, email, etc etc while playing TAO. You don't hav to just sit there. I know this is a tough concept, but since ur SUCH an experienced and smart player, I'm sure u'll manage.

Btw, when u respond rudely and is such poor form when ppl try to explain their views, don't expect much respect in the forums in general.

on my school computers...or some of them, it takes at least 20 seconds after i have issued a command for the unit to actually do this. if you set my normal turn time as around 30 secs (i do most of my thinking and planning during opponents turns) i can have 60 turns in a game. that might sound like a lot, but i can assure you that an average game probably consists of at least 50 turns each. this means that either i am making sure i dont spend very long thinking about my moves, or i end up in a drastic rush at the end.

of course, if the school would get some decent computers, problem solved..
