Eminem, the critically acclaimed best rapper in the world, is this true?
So what do you lot think about this guy, he raps about his family his friends and bad things that has happened in his life.
Who has a grudge against him or who loves him.

Lmao :) .
I think Eminems new song Like Toy Soldiers is really good and it is also dedicated to tupac and his death.
Have this for weirdness, my name is Matt Marshall and his name is Marshall Mathers. That ain't half close, lol.

No way is he the best rapper. I'll give him respect in the fact he can put together words that I couldn't dream could work together....but he's not the best.
2pac
Jay-Z
KRS-ONE
Canibus
Q-Strange
The Big Notorious
Kurupt
Memphis Bleek
Are all in front of him. Maybe in upcoming years he'll get in the top 3. But he's nowhere close just yet.

2pac dead
You know, I used to believe that myself. I would sit down and make fun of the kids who are still on his nuts. "He's dead, get over it". But when I herd a snippet from his new album on TV...it sparked my curiousity on the subject. On the aired tv commercial...it says:
"2005.......Guess who's back?"
And it was definitely 2pac. Boggles my mind
But yeah, he's the only white rapper LoL. Vanilla don't count. He was a media whore and a sellout.

You have to understand that Eminem raps about different things than most people. Ever just listen to his lyrics, like the lyrics from Toy Soldiers? Powerful stuff. Not the best rapper ever, but certainly the most versatile. He can move you, make you laugh, make you cry, make you dance, make you hype. Encore rocks.

I'll agree with you, somewhat. The thing with E is that yes, he's "flexible" ...but he also rapped on the same subject he was rapping about since day 1. Krs-One is one of the 5 buroughs BEST. He's a party rapper. But he's solid. Canibus is just, if not better than E at expressing himself through words the best. Another rapper I forgot to mention in my list is Nas. Nas ownz E in every way. I'm not trying to sit here and tell you that E isn't great...cuz he most definitely is. But, you can't deny history and facts when it comes to the "game".

Very true.
I love Like Toy Soldiers so much I have listened to it constantly for 1 hour already and I am listening to it as I post this now, and its definetely about 2pacs death and he was there when he died. I do have to believe 2pac is dead, no matter what people may say.

"Rap sucks" is not an opinion - it is a flame against a music genre. You may have the opinion that you do not like rap, but that gives you no right to judge the music. There are millions and millions of people who enjoy rap music, and millions and millions of people that don't. This thread seems to be comenting on a specific rapper, for those of us who appreciate rap, so only those interested should comment. If you don't like rap, then don't post here, it's as simple as that. I don't like country, but that doesn't mean 100 million people are wrong, that means our opinions of music differ.
That's your opinion. Bye.
On the subject - yes I love Kanye West and Jay-Z. I really can't seperate the different rappers, because I couldn't do without any of them:
Eminem
Nas
Jay-Z
Kanye West
2Pac
Biggie
Each with their own different style, they're all amazing.

Maybe, but not a very well presented one. Generally I don't like rap, but every once in a while I'll hear a rap song that doesn't make me look for a volume lower than mute on my speakers. (Gotta love Family Guy!) So, fI don't generalize and say all rap sucks, I just say, I dislike most rap.

Da Facts :
After leaving he tyson fight on september 7, 1996, Tupac was hallegedly shot 5 times.
He woz pronounced dead on friday september 13, 1996.
Da suspicious facts dat prove dat he aint dead at all - not even slightly...
1. Friday the 13th is a extremely suspicious day.
2. My man Tupac oficially died at 4.03 pm.
4 + 3 = 7!!! A coincidense? cumofit.
Also, he "died" at an age of 25 yearz. 2 + 5 = 7!!!!
3. 7 x 2 = 14. Den take dat number and minus 1. Wot do u get? 13.
Recognize dat number? yes hobviously u do.
Ye know remember de fing about friday de 13th.
4. Tupac's album 'All eyes on me' woz released feb 13th 1996.
Tupac 'died' on sept 13 1996. It iz quite a coinsidence dat de two dates iz HEXACTLY 7 months apart.
5. As if dis wosn't enuf proof me mate Jezzy F saw him in Dixon's in Bracknell 3 months ago.
Coincidense i dont fink so. He woz buyin some batteries. How much did dey cost?
Yeah dats right, £6.99. Guess wot he told dem 'to keep the penny blood'
Making 7 squid hexactly. fank you.
6. If u rearrange de lettaz of his album title 'Makaveli The Don Killumanati - The 7 day theory' u can make de sentense 'OK on tha 7th u think im dead yet im really alive.' Dont beleeve me, try it yaself.
7. Wot bout dis - if u rearange de lettaz of 'tupac shakur' u get 'u trap cak sh' (dere is a spare u, which refers to de CIA hobviously)
He is askin s to be quiet ('sh) about de 'trappin of cak' which basicaly meanz dat he couldnt 'ave been shot, coz overwise why would be still be tellin us dat.
that took a while to type so ill be brief now
i like eminem and d12, i used to love them, now i just like them.

I can't believe I forgot about Snoop Dogg (and Pharrell). Snoop is unique in my opinion because he sings while he raps. His words have more of a flow to them than almost any other rapper, and yet his rhymes are just as good.
Scroll Lock, perhaps you should pull your head out of your ass and take a look around. "I hate rap" is an opinion. "Rap sucks" is an unfounded statement that speaks for all people about rap. Comment about rather you like something or not, not whether it has value or not, that is not something that can be decided by one person, mush less a moron like you.
EDIT: By the way Scroll Lock, thanks for the negative rep, not brave enough to put your name behind your statements? You obviously disagree with me having an opinion. I now have 2 neg reps on this post, I'm glad everyone hates me having an opinion. I just disagree with him flaming a music genre. Just leave it alone, saying rap sucks adds nothing productive to this thread. If you don't like rap, don't comment on the thread. Sorry I pissed you off, but perhaps you should think before you post, as someone so kindly told me for my neg rep. I pity the fool who votes "Needs to be locked up and the key thrown away" but I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion;).I like eminem, I think he has improved and grown up, if you like, over the last few years. I admire how he has changed his ways of music, his lyrics nowadays aren't as dark and twisted. Take a look at his song Kim, then look at Mockingbird.
Eminem is/was an amazing rapper in my eyes I can understand why people gave him stick before about his songs and lyrics, but now his songs are top quality and still with great lyrics. Top man.
Thread bumped or not bumped, I still love the guy. ;)

Well, he is very good, and has much skill. As said before, his lyrics have changed from a dark person, to a much more mature stage. Though i am not one for rap music too often, his songs are good to hear. He is good, and deserves that title. Untill another rapper comes along.

I agree. Some of his songs like "Ass like that" and "Just Lose It" are fun and upbeat, while others like "Mockingbird", "When I'm Gone", and "Like Toy Soldiers" bring about a sense of despair and deep pain/sorrow...
But there's always other music to enjoy... I tend to like just about any kind of music there is. Just as long as it isn't old MJ. :p

Hes the best. He doesn't rap about money, whores, cops like
most raps these days.
That's true. He's more about what his life was like and his relationship with Hailie and his mother, sometimes Kim, not like some other rap no.
In his more recent songs you can tell he thinks the world of his daughter and would do anything for her. A few years ago he wouldn't have been writing songs dedicated to his daughter.

I think we need to categorize what we mean by "great rapper". Are we talking star power, ganster attitude, lyricism, catchy songs, nice beats. Because I think a lot of people are confusing them. 50 Cent is an entertainer, with a ganster attitude, who can write some very original and catchy lyrics, and has the luxury of having some of the best beats and featured artists in ther business. But his lyrics are always about the same things. And when every Joe Schmo in the hip-hop industry raps about the same things (drugs, sex, money, killing people, and being gangsta), it really diminishes his appeal, at least to me.
Someone mentioned that Em has a lot of great songs, and a lot of rubbish. I can pick up any Em CD, and listen to it all the way through. I may not like every song on there, but they all serve a purpose. He presents a clear, well-constructed message, with almost unsurpassed lyrical talent. Plus, he has the ability to make hits as well. Every song can't be a club-banger, or you end up with cheap mainstream hip-hop (kinda like 50's new stuff - i so wish he would make an album like he did when he was an unkown).
In my opinion, most of the best lyricists are people you've never heard of, because they don't make club-bangers and instant hits. But to sit down and listen to the lyrics of their songs is a thing of beauty. For instance, someone like Mos Def. He has mucho talent. Then there are the artists who let their style define their music. Twista raps fast as hell, and is great at it, I love his songs. Someone like Snoop raps in a sing-song kind of way, his words flow to the beat, and it makes for great music.
It's hard to say who is the best overall, but you can easily identify the strong points of any rapper (or lack thereof). There's a time and a place for Lil Jon, but its certainly not for his lyrical genius. When I'm high as hell, all I wanna do is snap my fingers and do my step:p . But if I want a powerful song, I'm not gonna look to the King of Crunk, I'm gonna turn to Em, or Pac, or Biggie. Or better yet, go old school and play some Bob Marley. Those are lyrics to live by

Although I personally loathe Eminem for the fact of turning his back on those who helped get him started, and trying to say he did it ALL on his OWN... I must admit that he knows what do do, and is great at doing it. He knows what sells, what the tabloids eat up, and what sells records.
All this "bad publicity" has onl sold millions more of his records and made his pockets considerably deeper.
Also, I see some good rappers from the past there, but I do believe you are forgetting Public Enemy... One of the groups that brought hip-hop to the current level of mainstream music it is today.

Thats what makes him what he is, doing music about his life, thats where MockingBird and When I'm Gone came truely into it, there two of his best songs, yes I think he's better than 50, Marshall's life story music is what makes him better than 50.

But then on the other hand it really boils down to what you mean by "best rapper" depends on peoples taste in music, if you like music to bounce along and nod your head then i'm thinking 50's music, if you like music where it's good to listen to the lyrics, it's Em.

Em raps about events in his life, yes, this has been said countless times. Which makes him a better in that respect.
But, 50 sounds better and has better tunes. Yes he raps about the usual shit like whores etc. take "many men" or "god gave me style" they aren't the whores, cops and money raps, they are good raps also about his life.
Now, in my view, they cannot be compared because they rap about completely different things. They are both very talented rappers, but not in the same league.

I'm just going to assume you guys already did this and still thought 50 cent or Lil John was better, and that's ok. You still suck at life, but at least you suck at it in a sort of informed kind of way.
As far as you KB, you must have listened to the song "Ether" from Nas at least once, it's the song from which Twelve already shared some of the pain Nas brought.
After that song I could only think of one word for Jay-Z.
Seppuku! (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seppuku)
Now if Nas is the best rapper, I don't know. The greatest rapper shouldn't make a misstep like "I can", but compared to the high pitched voice/alter-ego bullshit from Eminem,
"I know I can (I know I can)
Be what I wanna be (be what I wanna be)
If I work hard at it (If I work hard at it)
I'll be where I wanna be (I'll be where I wanna be)"

Well, that is pretty clear.
Thing is with Eminem, 2pac and B.I.G is that they are not just throw away rapppers... They actually hang around and people STILL listen to their tunes. I mean 2 of those 3 are dead and their tunes are still being played and remixed etc. Eminem may have gone to producing but still, I would bet on 1/5 people like at least one of his tunes. They say white guys can't rap but Em has proved he can and is very good at it too.
Now for Jay-Z... I must admit it now... I loathe his tunes. A couple of his tunes that have been remixed with linkin parks make them sound better, but I still am not very keen on them.
Chamillionaire has some pretty good tunes. Ridin is by nowhere near his best, in fact one of his worst to be honest. Listen to hate in ya eyes, that is good.
For 50, well I disagree totally. Yes I agree that his bragging about getting shot 9 times and surviving is laying it on a bit thick. In my view, he is a good rapper but he raps about the same shit. His tunes all sound the same except with a different beat. How else would he have gotten a record deal if he wasn't a good rapper? Especially a deal by Eminem and Dre, that is a feat.
I do not believe Eminem is the best rapper in the world either, but he sure as hell isn't far from it.

Eminem? The best rapper? What? Yeah, right.
Eminem's old stuff was hot, I'll admit it. When he was crazy, his rhymes were real nice. I loved his stuff back in the day. But he is nowhere near the best rapper in the world? I'm not going to mention dead people, but people alive make him look like crap.
Lupe Fiasco, in my opinion, is the hottest rapper out right now. One of his hot songs with Ghostface and Mike Shinoda, Spray Paint is one of my favorite songs of all time. Lupe is a fantastic lyricist and has exceptional flow. He can put meaningful rhymes on a hot beat and make them match any time. He's pretty new to the main stream scene, but that doesn't matter. "Kick Push" is nice, but "Conflict Diamonds" is better.
Jay-Z. Best-rapper-alive. Period. True; he hasn't utilized his full potential since he put out his album Reasonable Doubt, but who cares? His rhymes are hot as hell, and better than anything most rappers can put out these days. I'm not going to do the (beep) 'Shoulder Lean'. (Beep) the Shoulder Lean. That (beep) song (beep) sucks. It isn't 'Goin' Down' at the mall...or anywhere else on my watch. And the cops will never catch me listening to 'Ridin' Dirty'. Jay-Z is off the chain in the game. Even though he quit. Eminem has one thing over Jay-Z. He spit better verses on Renegade than Jay-Z did.
50 Cent? Yeah, right. He got shot nine times. Who the (beep) cares? If I shoot that stupid son-of-a-(beep) a tenth time, I'd bet that (beep) would be dead then. 50 Cent sucks. He has garbage lyrics, garbage flow. Dr. Dre's beats helped his songs sound hot, that's all. I will admit one thing about 50 Cent, though. He's fantastic at Song Format. The placement of everything in his songs is exceptional, so that's helped him greatly. The best rapper in G-Unit is Lloyd Banks. They've got Busta Rhymes now, too, so they've got major help there.
A few hot rappers I like are: SunN.Y., Papoose, Jae Millz, Saigon, Quan, Joe Budden, Ghostface, M. Shinoda, Jay-Z, Memphis Bleek, Lupe Fiasco, Nas...pretty much, I'm for people who came from the west coast and up north. Southern rappers suck. Very much. Ludacris and T.I. are the only good southern rappers. Besides that, they're all garbage. Lil' Jon heads G-Unit: South. He's garbage too.
Eminem's new songs are throw-away. Very much so. I don't want to listen to his new crap. Because it's crap. He plays around too much. I went up to Boston for a week this summer, and everybody was listening to Jay-Z, Nas, Biggie, 2Pac, Papoose and a whole bunch of other rappers who came from the north and west coast. Chi-Town has some hot rappers, too. Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, and another hot rapper I really like came from the Chi.
At the moment, the only rappers I see making Hip-Hop good right now is Kanye West, Lupe Fiasco, Common, Talib Kweli, GLC, J. Torae, and Mos Def. Everything else is just Gangsta Rap. I mean, I don't want to hear that shit. I don't give a damn how many hoes you banged. I don't care how many people you shot last Thursday. I don't care how many cops you outran, or how many drugs you sold. I don't care about how much money you have. It's bullshit. They think they're gangsters, but they're not. The real gangsters are people like the Mafia, the Yakuza's, and the Triads. What rappers like Young Jeezy think, they're gangsters. They're gangsta. There's a difference. Gangsta's have a one-track mind. Sell drugs, get money, wear expensive clothes, and all that bullshit. Gangsters make it big. Hence the said crime organizations.
Hip-Hop now is nothing but a bad influence upon the kids of today. They see it on TV and think that because it's on TV, it's cool. Most definitely those of African-American heritage. We degade ourselves on a national level. It's pathetic.
I'll just shut up before I go on a rant about this.

It's not just rapping that's gone down-hill though.
So much rock music sucks today, and where the hell did these emo kids come from? Go back to your corner, no one loves you.
It seems like people are running out of ideas. Everything sounds the same now, in every genre of music. :(
Oh. My. Gosh.
Didn't I say almost exactly that somewhere?
*looks*

 what exactly is this "emo" genre?
Example:
"Ohio Is For Lovers"--Hawthorne Heights
And I can't make it on my own.
(And I can't make it on my own.)
Because my heart is in Ohio.
So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
(Cut my wrists and black my eyes)
So I can fall asleep tonight, or die.
Because you kill me.
You know you do, you kill me well.
You like it too, and I can tell.
You never stop until my final breath is gone.
You know you do, you kill me well.
You like it too, and I can tell.
You never stop until my final breath is gone.
(YOU...KILL...ME...WELL)
So cut my wrists and black my eyes.
My final breath is gone
So I can fall asleep tonight
It's pretty much a bunch of guys with large ovaries singing about how much their life sucks.

Eminem, the critically acclaimed best rapper in the world, is this true?
So what do you lot think about this guy, he raps about his family his friends and bad things that has happened in his life.
Who has a grudge against him or who loves him.
EMINEM. EMINEM. EMINEM. EMINEM.
Yeah, actually, he is my favorite rapper.

I don't care what everyone says. "Ice Ice Baby" is one of the best rap songs ever. Period. :p
