Play people and learn from their setups. That is the only way.

The two most popular strategies are the turtle and the rush.

The rush is easier to learn, usually involving an assault and pushing your units into the opponent's side of the field, and simply attacking all you can out of them.

The turtle, specifically the BW/Chanty turtle, is much harder to learn, but in the grey game, it's much more efficient IF you can master it.

Myself? I used to use a good spread out one-cleric strategy, which I could use defensively and offensively as the situation demanded. Now I use a two-Cleric strategy, with the Clerics in the corners and my Scout in the middle and center, so I could move him to either side of the field if he is needed (but one space away from those pesky center-LWs in case the enemy gets first turn). I've been doing okay with it. Could be better, could be worse.

Spreads are okay strategies to learn with as well, as they are the most versatile. They can be used to have an offensive front on either side of the field, or having units spread out can work in a defensive manner as well--with the spread I have, the only way to hit any two units with one attack is to put them within 3 spaces of the Lightning Ward, and the only units that can do this are the DMW, (Knight + DMW), the Pyro, and the DSM (LW + Scout), all of which wouldn't weather a single LW attack. My units are flexible, meaning unless an enemy obstructs their path, I can move them to either front should the need arise. That's why I use a spread strat.

In order to give you a good strategy, -LK-, it's first essential to know what you want out of it first.

spreads as a grey is a very hard technique to master, I do not advise it, as corner turteling is easier to learn and as if not more effective.

I learned the spread easily, that's why I use it.

I guess I'm speaing on personal experience, but the turtle was much harder for me to utilize than the spread, although the turtle was more efficient at what I used it for.

the spread is easily countered by a power turt.
