You saw correct! I bring you the first Great Lakes Tournament of many to come! If you're not on the Great Lakes server, don't worry. This tournament is a tournament series, and will come to all three servers. Next is Baniff, followed by Armageddon, so keep your eyes open for information on them soon to come!
Now for the Great Lakes Tournament! (Make sure you read everything below!)
Restrictions: None. Both Golds and Non-Golds may play. There are no unit restrictions.
Registration: The first 32 people to register may play. Any registrations recieved after the first 32 will be ignored. If you wish to register, finish reading all the information below, and then register using the registration form at the bottom.
Prize: The winner of the tournament will recieve $30 via PayPal or Money Order.
Schedule: The schedule will be released after all players are registered. Matches will be chosen at random and a time will be given for you to play. if the server is full and you can not log in, keep trying until you get in. If you still can't get it, don't worry. You have a half hour to do so (and it usually only takes a couple tries).
Playing your match: Once both you and your partner have entered the lobby, both of your records will be checked. after they are checked, you may play your game. Once your game is over, your records will be checked again to officially declare the winner. For this reason, your stats may not be private! (at least for the duration of the game).
Registration Form: Send me a Private Message on these forums with your TAO account name (your exact name), and confirmation that it is on the Great Lakes server. Here ya go - everyon's answers in one post!
Killer Kev - more than one match will be played at a time. I will give everyone a half hour interval, and you are to play sometime within that time frame. For example, lets say the schedule said:
7:00-7:30 - Skribe vs KillerKev
What you should do is try to log into the server at 7:00. Once your logged it, say something so I notice your here, and look for your opponent (In the example it's me). Once both players are in the lobby, I'll give you a floor number to play on and the OK to play. If your opponent does not show by 7:30, he forfits the match.
MasterGolem - I realize not everyone has PayPal, which is why Money Orders are also an option. I am not an Administrator of TAO and therefore cannot give away units. Although in future tournaments I will try to see if the Administrators will OK a unit as a prize.

Yes i did! I'm at school right now tho, and the connection here sucks - it's slow as hell. Doesn't matter anyway, 3:30pm PDT is too early for me to play anyhoo...
Is there a possibility that there might be a tourney in the future that is late enough to allow us West Coasters to play? Say at 9pm EST?

:( this blows man, i thought it was gonna be starting over the weekend ... at least i think that was the original plan... this week is crazygonuts for me here; i'd been referring to monday as "D-day" since this past saturday afternoon b/c of all the crap i got goin on this week. azn_guy, just forewarning you i might not show up for the match. still a possibility, but it's also a possibility you won't find me on the server come 7:30 tomorrow:confused: stupid essays and crap... -grumble-grumble-:mad: i'll TRY to make it.

hey skribe, i know this tournaments been anything but smooth, people not showing up and stuff, but once this gets sorted out and these things become easier to do, i was wondering if you'd consider gold only and grey only tournaments. I think it would make them more exciting, a gold v gold matchup or a grey grey game are usually more exciting then grey gold, though i've had a few of those too. Just a thought i had earlier, seeya

yeah, i agree. not saying that there aren't really tough greys out there, but let's face it, if we took a grey and a gold of the same skill level, someone's got the advantage, and it normally isn't the gold player. even though skribe isn't staff--> i know one of the main reasons to limit greys is so that they have a reason to subscribe and support TAO, but there are some people who just can't do it for various reasons. if there's a really good grey (who isn't able to subscribe), i figure he(SHE??) should definitely be allowed to compete in a tournament against his or her equals and not have to fight a string of golds who in all honesty have a certain advantage. :rolleyes: wheew, that was alot of typing :-p -getting of my soapbox-
oh, but one more thing, to some of the greys, please stop harrassing golds, just b/c we have a few more units, doesn't mean we're invincible; i've been beaten by a grey. the game wouldn't be going on in 3 servers if it wasn't for gold members paying a little, so those of you who whine about us, please just get real

sorry if this has been asked before, but when is the next tourney going to be held? And will it be exactly the same style as this tourney?
I was also thinking maybe every year there should be a master tourney played ina style similar to the Soccer World Cup games.
It'd be 32 players, put into 8 groups of 4, or if you want to make it larger than you could make it 64 players put into 16 groups of 4. In each group each player will play the other 3 members of the group. A win would be 3 pts, a draw 1 pt, and a loss 0 pts. By the end end of the first round when all players have played 3 games, the top two in each group will advance.
The second round would be single elimination with the #1 of each group playing the #2 of the next group, so forth.
This method would ensure that a single mistake or bad luck in one game would not cost someone the entire tourney. Anyway something to think about.
Another idea I had was team touneys, but I haven't really thought of a best way to make a team-style tourney.

any gold over 1300 (in terms of skill) should be able to beat a grey of any skill level - there is no question that a muddie > pyro, or that two scouts > scout + ward. frostie and chanty is somewhat arguable, though i believe frosties are far more valuable due to the range, health and wait times
now beasties, furgons, the like, while nice, aren't giving significant advantages
so the fact that you lost to a grey means either a lotta bad luck, or you just played a really poor game that day
i'd invite that gold to legends to show him how much more challenging a grey can be, even given frosties
