Now that I've poked your attention, could someone tell me how to register for a free account? I'd like to see how the game works before I, most likely, register for a paying account.

just start up TAO by clicking on "play tactics arena online" in the "Play Online" area of the main site, when it loads select a server and select new account instead of login.

Okay... I'll just assume that the whole "Name is unavailable" was a server problem.
