I know probably everyone else agrees with me that it is extremely annoying when a noob or a new player knows nothing about the game yet he still hops you. I find this irritating when i want to play someone or im just camping till someone good comes along and plays me. I know not all grays are noobs but at least 90% of them are and i just wish something could be done about them and i think my fellow golds agree. Like after a week if the accounts stats are not up to 800 they are wiped.

I dont know what to you guys think? Post Back please!!!!

First, it's newb, not noob.

Second, if your join date is any indication, you are a newb as well. I bet there's alot of players better then you that have no problem when you play them. That's what happens when you place your man down, it's an open challenge.

Third, and by far the most important... The only way new players improve is *gasp* playing the game. Noone gets better by watching people chat in the lobby. Should they ask your permission to play, while you are sitting there obviously waiting for a game? Instead of complaining, why not enlighten them and give them some pointers? Surely someone as skilled as you must be brimming with knowledge that can be shared. Why hoard that wealth of skills to yourself, pass it along and maybe they'll improve.

Bottom line, stat people before you play or get over it.

Noob is acceptable. A n00b is someone who is new and also extremely annoying.

However Bink, you can't whinge about noobs jumping you if you just set your avy down in the lobby and wait. Puting you avy down and waiting is the same as issuing a challenge to everyone in the lobby. Including the new players.

Also a < 800 wipe will solve nothing. The wiped players will just start a new account.

So how about instead of complaining about there being so many n00bs you do something about them and teach them the basics to be better players. And if you aren't prepared to do that then do as _Rouge_ says. get over it.

Your statement kind of refutes itself. If the newb knows nothing about the game, then he obviously isn't jumping you to piss you off. He's just looking for a game. So then, if he doesn't know what's going on, which he shouldn't, since he's a newb, then you're really the one at fault since you know what precautionary steps to take but you disregard and don't take them.

If you don't want to play newbies, don't place your avy down. Challenge someone and play on a less busy floor where there's less likely a newbie just hanging around. Stop complaining about something you can easily prevent.

Also, <800 stat wipes is a horrible idea. It'll kill the game. Truthfully, newbies keep the game alive. Fresh players will grow better off of each other and by learning from golds or more experienced players that they may battle. The newbs then become the elite, and so forth.

You can't blame people for being people, and for not instantly knowing what took all of us time to accumulate.

So, according to duffman's definition this is indeed a n00b thread. Nuff said I think, this is a case of the pot caling the kettle black, or the stove complaining how everyone else is making it so damn hot in here.... you get the idea.

So then shut up and leave. No one wants to hear you whine about something we've all dealt with and you can figure out by yourself.

Hey i am new to the game but im a newbie... not a n00b.
It's understandable that all the people who haven't ever played the game, will be rubbish at first... i was, but i am getting there.
We can't learn by looking at words or sentences in the chat room thing at the bottom...

We need to battle someone, so if it's you, or anyone else... we need an opponent to battle. If you get into a battle with a n00b, then just log out and re-log in...
Just stop complaining... as most of the people in grey are newbies anyway...
Enough said...

If you just put your avatar down, especially on floors 1-3, then anyone has the right to jump you, and you definately can't get annoyed. Just play the game out, and perhaps give them pointers, etc.

The times that I do get annoyed is when a newer player jumps me either when I'm trying to have a pre-arranged match on floors 4-9 (or 5-9 if the server is crowded), or instances where I say something like "Hey, if anyone wants a good match, come jump me on floor 6. I only ask that your stats are above 1050." I think in these instances, if people didn't read what you said (and what you said is reasonable enough; a 1640 player asking for opponents 1050+), then you do have the obligation to surrender. But I've stopped doing that; the "newbies" don't listen.

The only way to guarantee getting a good opponent is to issue a personal challenge to someone else.

With some members... (including me) you cannot see half the text shown in the chat thing at the bottom. I tried all known browsers, and it just will not show the lower 5 or so lines of the text... so i reply to messages really late due to the "blindness".

So, in some cases of what happens to you monkus, it may just be that, but most of the time, these n00bs are just idiotic stupid... well, no need to say really.

There needs to be a sticky somewhere, where ALL the people going into these forums can view with ease... like a prompt or something... and the thread should obviously be about this subject, mainly to the n00bs, so they don't annoy and follow within in-game boundries. Good idea?

Except most people don't use the forums especially if they're grey.

why is it that noobs always complain about noobs?

Its like Jeff complaining about bitter or mean people...it just doesn't work.

I am grey, and i dont mind at all who jumps me....whether they be experienced, newb, or even gold. You learn a lot from experienced players and gold players alike.....also, the newbs can have some pretty wacky and fun formations to play against, and as long as they are not rude i will offer advice.....like to stop shooting my lightning ward(lol, never gets old :) )

I also agree that making a sticky for newbs on the forums is next to useless, there are very few greys that look at the forum, let alone even know it exists. And yes most greys are also newbs, although i would say more like 75%-80%...not quit 90%...well maybe on GL, poor GL is always swamped...you guys have my sympathy :(

I find the largest annoyance isn't in playing the newer players, it's just the feeling that the game was wasted when a better one can be played.

It's not just statwise, although with the constant competition between clanmembers and other people too, I do prefer to gain a few stats in games, but also a game against a newer player isn't benefitting me in any way.

When an intermediate player faces a newer player, they both can learn things. Perhaps the newer player can pick up on an interesting concept that the intermediate player hadn't thought of yet.

When a player that has played as long as I have plays a novice player, the game tends to be a period of experimentation for the newer player with his units, followed by a barrage of questions that can be answered by any reasonable player. I just feel like there are other games I should be playing instead.

You might want to take out the "as" in "BinkPimp is as...."
It'll make more sence that way.

Was that necessary kyir? And did this thread really need to be bumped after over a week of lying peacefully in the forums wasteland?

No, it didn't, but since it's here, here's my take.

Newbies jumping me is perfectly fine.

When I put my piece down for open challenges, I want open challenges. Anyone can fight me, even if I only benefit a stat from beating them (if that). I love helping them get a feel for the units and how they work. When fighting newbies, I teach them trick shots, give them pointers on their unit placements, blocking tips, et cetera.

No, it's not the newbies I hate, it's the golds on the server.

Some of you that take visits to Great Lakes or high-ranking regulars (Thefreezing, allstar, Eindeg-Dein and its many users) know that on any given day, if you challenged the first gold you saw, there is about a 95% chance he will refuse the fight, unless you have pitiful stats and/or are a grey. On four instances with Eindeg (and whoever was using the account at the time), challenges were offered down the list of golds and consistently refused, and I was pretty much the only person to fight each time. On two occasions with thefreezing, not even I stepped up to plate (as I was away and left TAO on), and the third time I was the only fight. On one occasion with Allstar, he even lowered his fighting standards and accepted a fight with me.

I have already given up on personal requests with reasonable fighters in GL, with a few exceptions of people I know will fight me, and simply done open challenges, and have gotten unsatisfying battles, stat-wise.

It seems an endless conundrum.

i think this thread has had its better days... *sigh* i think we can all agree on these three things.

1. n00bs that jump you are boring and a waste of time.
2. Even though they excist we still presist to play the game.
3. I am cooler then max :)

In principle I beleive in teaching newbs, because they are the future of tao, but it can get extremely boring. In fact, much of my time in the forums is spent when I am waiting for a newb to figure out his/her moves. I only tell general information, because I beleive in the value of learning something for yourself. For instance I will point out to someone that they can use the buttons at the top to control their units, they dont have to move, then attack, then position their units every turn. I wont, however, tell someone about a trick LOS shot, or tell them damage tables. Those things just have to be learned on your own.
