View Full Version : Stop The Turtle Madness!

Look - no one is going to ever define a turtle. It can't be defined. Certain people have their own definitions. But this sniping back and forth, people claiming to know what's what, other people yelling at them solves nothing. NOTHING!

You want a simple system to (usually) get the kind of turtle games YOU like to play? Yes? Then here. It's simple.

ASK YOUR OPPONENT. Don't ask for "monkus turtle" rules or anything like that. Be freaking specific. "No golem ambushers or mages up front, ok?" is a common one. It's what I use, and it generally guarantees me the kind of turtle games I like. Of course, people will have different definitions of "up front" but any person with any amount of sense will know what you are asking.

So stop bickering and start playing. It is very annoying to come in and see people sniping away at each other just because they don't agree.

You're not GOING to agree. So just hash out the rules before each game. Then if they break what you've agreed on, you have a valid argument. If you fail to ask, then tough for you.

The only way to get the games you want is to ask for them specifically. No more of this forum-definition stuff.

Yeah I agreed to stop ranting about it because there was no point, but if you want to make a point, put this in either the monkus turtle thread, instead of making a new thread :P

Well Said Fry, I planned to say the same thing in Network's thread earlier but decided not to. Heh

Great idea. The only thing that I'm worried about is that players either won't be specific enough with their rules, or will start having 20 minute long preludes to a 5 minute game. But, considering the newfound anger at any form of regulating turtles, I guess it's our only option. Okay. I'm down with it.

Most of the time I don't care what kind of turtle someone uses on me, unless they are better than me.

The only problem I see is you can name any basic specifications, and I can find a turtle that abuses that and creates a 1 sided rush. If you don't care, then fine, but otherwise you'll have to either A. Accept the fact that you're probably going to face rushes about 50% of the time, or B. Make a list of like 20 regulations you need.

If you don't believe me, give me any regulations that a turtler could understandably ask his opponent of, and i'll show you a form that takes advantage of it.

I think, unfortunately, that Frylock is right. I would love for there to be defenition of a turtle, but there never will be. Unless seed writes it into the code of the game (which I highly doubt) form names are ambiguous (excuse my probable mispelling :D ). By their very nature, forms cannot truly be defined. If Seed had chosen to make it so that you had a list of 10 forms to choose from, that would be different. Wisely, however, he didnt, so we must live with not being able to really categorize forms.

I've got a better idea. Maybe we should all just say that I'm right about turtles, along with everybody else who agrees with me. Surprisingly enough, another facet of this idea involves those who don't agree with me being wrong. Yeah, I like that.
