This was an idea that was started by PYRO on the old forums. Unfortuantely, it never finished because the forums went down.
Basically, post a screenshot of your desktop here to enter. You may only enter one, so make up your mind before posting. I will accept submissions until Wednesday, the 9th. Then, I will make a poll and you can vote on your favorite desktop.
Here's (http://home.netcom.com/~godmic/sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderfiles/desktop2.jpg) mine currently. It's simplistic, but I think I like it alot more than some of the fancier things that I've done.

Very messy though... I don't really like putting digital pictures as wallpaper because... I don't know, it just bugs me. That picture, however, is an exception.
If we are aloud multiple entries, I'll take a pic of a cleaner desktop. I need to clean this one up anyways... :(

Digital pictures are generally too busy for the eye, there's a full colour spectrum and it makes finding icons difficult. A background should (IMHO) be a bit more neutral and contrast with the non-background items.
I don't think mine's changed since the old thread, but since I don't want to dig for the link, I'll just post another one.

Me too. :)
Although, it's not actually a program, just something built in with preferences on the mac. It can be every 5 seconds, every minute, every 5 minutes, everytime the computer wakes up from sleep (or screen saver, I guess), or changes every time you restart. There are some others too, I think.
Although, I don't use that...
What are some good places for neat graphical wallpapers? I find alot on http://deviantart.com, but I was wondering if anyone else knows some good places.

Yea, I've been there before. Nothing I really liked thouhg, I'm picky I guess. I like *some* of the "Dark" wallpapers on deviantart.com without all the silly words or pictures of people on them. The one I have up now that I took the screenshot of was from deviantart.com, I just changed the color from red.
But I've had that one for a while now, I need to find myself a new one, and I suck too much to make one myself that I like. :D

True, it could benefit from a nice background, but I'm not sure where I'm gonna find one with the right resolution. People who use these monitors are serious artists, and they usually use a plain grey background so it doesn't mess with color correction.
And Jeff, we don't really need more than 512 in this computer. It would be nice though... I might put it to the bossman.

The background doesn't HAVE to be the exact size. I use an 800 x 600 wallpaper sometimes, and this computer is at 1024 x 768. You just have to set it to stretch. :)

Yeah, as far as I know they can't be gotten rid of in 2000 or 98. Same way you can't ever *really* get rid of internet explorer in any windows OS without hacking the code, because it's tied into windows explorer itself. It would be like trying to run OSX without Finder.

Yeah, as far as I know they can't be gotten rid of in 2000 or 98. Same way you can't ever *really* get rid of internet explorer in any windows OS without hacking the code, because it's tied into windows explorer itself. It would be like trying to run OSX without Finder.
There are programs that hack the OS for you. I don't know about 2K but in 98 it's very easy to run without ie. Of course you lose some functionality in the OS because of the way things are tied together (you won't get image previews in windows explorer, for instance) but it runs quite well.
