Obviously, accored to the pythagorean theorem and the postulate of chronological order of schooling, I am not yet in Calculus.

well i cant help you but maybe this can
go to
www.hotmath.org

click on whatever grade math you are in and the book you are using. Then type in the page number and click the problem your on. It usually has an explination of how to get the answer.

It seems to me that they messed up, and the sign between the two terms in the numerator was switched when they worked out their answer.

EDIT* Son of a . . . Forget it guys, I figured it out.
