Here are the matchups for the second round. You have until Friday April 1st, 2005 at 6 PM EST to complete your matches. Please post screenshots of your games in this thread.

This round the matchups were not in my control. I sent an email to myself on Tuesday March 22 at 6:36 which contained the following:

I began to accept numbers from the captains of the winning teams directly after I sent the email. Here is the numbers that the teams picked (my team number was picked by some random named wolf boy.)

Though, I do think that if it were further along into the tournament it shouldn't be so easily allowed.

ie. If someone loses in the semi finals they can't sub for someone in the finals.

I think that Dan U has the passwords to most of his members' accounts. I remember Draquist saying something about him using all his members' accounts in his clan war between Illuminati and KotR, and him winning it on his own. I wouldn't be surprised if he tried to do the same thing in a tournament. Not accusing anyone of anything, just stating what I know.

The deal is with changing your order is that the other team has to approve.
There are certain times where a group might want their first to play your first for a reason?

Usually it isn't a problem though - I don't think Bottle minds since he didn't say anything about it. It's fine with me, just get the games played!

BTW, I've still had absolutely no contact from any of our opponents. I've been online every day when I said I would be, and I haven't received a single PM. The only person I've seen on at all was Cavour. At this rate, we may end up advancing by default... not the way we want to go...

I can see myself maybe not showing up for a tournament I signed up for, but if I had 2 other people counting on me there's no way I'd do such a thing.

Obviously things can come up, but I'm pretty sure that in most cases it's just total unreliableness.

He had a BWard, Chanty, Cleric, Knight, and LWard. I had 2 Knights, Assassin, LWard, BWard, and Cleric. I had one of his Knights pinned, and he had his Chanty ready to go. We could have played a contest of who has the worst front Knight blocking, one of us taking the offensive(This person would have more than likely lost), or draw. The game took about an hour, and we realized we could finish the game out, porbably just to be flawlessed by the next team's player, or just draw it. We decided to draw, and let our team mates handle the rest.

And about his "I'm retarded comment", I was playing on Banff as a grey, since no one was on Rev, and we wanted some clan chat. I got invited into Si, and he forgot. He asked if I would surrender, instead of drawing, so his stats wouldn't take a hit. I told him I was already in, and thus his reply.

Hmm. well, since Cav wasn't liekly to be on, I allowed Applesauce to play me instead.

I got a dc when I had lost a knight, my other was on 31, and his scout was on 4. He had the choice of barriering his scout, which would have left my other knight free to kill his witch, or risking a block and the chance of losing the scout. Strictly speaking, he wins by default, which kinda sucks. Especially as his scout had already blocked one death-shot, which would have made Fry's job much easier.

He says he has a screenie that had my knight on 14, but I'm sure it was on 31. In any case, I was about to heal it, so I'd still have had chance for one shot, even if it was a frontal.

Of course, according to the rules, he advances with 10 units. I'd ask for a rematch if it wasn't so pointless... I doubt he'd expose his two weakest units like that again...

I had an idea a few seconds ago. What if I made a team up of some of the teams who have already lost? It would be a way for them to make a comeback and also a means of solving the bye issue.

Either that, or plan ahead before starting the next tourney, and cut off signups after 8 or 16 teams have entered. Have backup teams in case both teams no-show.

As for this tourney, I could only really suggest a 5-way league-style thing with everyone playing everyone once. That would take a long time, but would be fairer and also makes the teams who are good enough to have got this far get even more matches to enjoy. In any case, once we're down to 3 we'd have to make a leagueish thing (the round robin). And the bonus of a 5-way league is that all the matches could be going on simultaneously.

Anyone agree, disagree or have a suggestion to improve that idea?

At this stage, the teams that have advanced all have regular members who seem to be committed to playing their games. So long as everyone was PMing, I'm sure the matches would only take about 2 weeks or so. (They can all be played at once remember.) Which is about as long as two separate rounds, played one after the other, which still consists of 3 matches total (instead of 4).

I finally got my game with Say What?. For me the most important moment of the match was the opening setup, because I'm a very good opp side player but only a pretty good same side player. Sadly, it was same side. He got early blocks, I got some late blocks, all in all it was pretty even. When he got the edge I decided to kill as much as possible. I was really in trouble at one point, he had only lost his scout (we traded) and his chanty which I killed in an early yet sadly unsuccessful charge (chalk it up to inexperience, I'll get better :) ). He assassin bombed my knight charging his cleric, leaving me with only 2 wards, cleric, knight and chanty. With some late game good play (which I hope partially redeems my rather lacking same side game skills) I charged and killed both wards and his cleric, leaving him with 3 knights and a witch to fight zzzaacckk. It was a good game, I got outplayed. Say What? and I are 1-1 now (I beat him in our previous match, which was opp side).

Sorry about the mediocre performance guys, I did my best. Hopefully zzzaacckk can flawless those remaining units. I think he'll do it. I predict a 10 vs 10 final round with Tassles! wishing the sherriff badges better luck next tourney at the end. :cool: And hey, don't discount my predictions. I predicted there would be more than one draw and there already has been a second. I predicted this matchup would be extremely close and it is (though admittedly those aren't REALLY tough predictions). Let's hope the third time's the charm. :)

I have given it a great deal of thought and I believe I have come up with an excellent solution to the conundrum of how to make the final two rounds fair. It’s a little complicated so bear with me.

The final five teams will pick numbers. All the ELIMINATED teams will pick from a different set of numbers. Four of the final five teams will play each other, two will be eliminated. The fifth team will play a randomly selected eliminated team and they will play. Naturally it would be unfair for the eliminated team to get back in the tournament. So if the eliminated team wins, the fifth finalist team is eliminated and the final round will only consist of two teams. If the fifth finalist team wins, they get into the final round, having earned it, and it’ll be round robin again. The eliminated team will gain nothing except a chance to play again and have an effect on the way the tourney goes. Though it may work as well to offer them a small prize if they beat the other team so they’ll stay interested. Maybe a few witch drops or something.

This way, all the final five teams will need to earn their way to the final match.

What do you guys think?

well i stayed on until Midnight central time and he never got on, so he didn't get on last nite like you said. I can't play tonite i have to play a baseball game against our alumni and then i'm going to a friends house. If we get kicked from the tourny because we don't play our games it's a load of shit cuz i've been on all week and the stupid team we are against has had to find 2 substitutes and don't get on when they say they will. I will try and get on sunday but i don't know since my dad works for the military he's been gone for about a week and he leaves for D.C. on wensday for a month. So i'd kinda like to see him. I'll try to get on but if i can't i've been on every nite for a week and no one ever got on to play me. It isn't my fault if our don't games get done and everyone knows that.

Well, most of the teams aren't finished anyways! So I doubt we'll be able to wrap this up today.

It seems the excitement from tag-teams has died down...or maybe just tournaments in general?
I think that perhaps I'll take a break from running them for a while to build up more excitement.

I for one am loving this thing (of course this is my first). I love the added element of team work and more long range strategy. Whenever I'm up I do my best with pms and stuff. The problem is that while I think there are a fair number of enthusiastic people, most teams have people that are less enthusiastic.

Sorry. :( I have work, and I've gotta leave soon, so that doesn't give much of a margin to play in... I also don't see the rationality in restarting. The only foul up he really had was rushing his assassin in to go after my Witch really, so I don't think he really merits his claim to a horrible game. Regardless, I would prefer to go from where we left off, as it seems more practical and realistic to me... Either way, I'll try to find him tomorrow and finish this up.
