View Full Version : CAU Disclamer
to all new CAU'ers, DO NOT complain if people dislike your 1st idea, or however many you make, at first you are the new person making you easy to flame, if you complain this will increase the volume, it is in your's and our best intrest if you just learn from your mistakes with minimal complaints.

i agree, good idea, Kyir. also, i suggest that people read several other units currently in the forum, or read the best unit poll, so that they don't make overpowered units. :)

Um, Sanity, are you fft?
I think this is a great idea. N00bs will notice this and be like: "Woah. I'll try and be careful because otherwise Kyir, Hellblazer, Mithrander or Cross Punisher will flame me."
EDIT: Why did you make another account, fft?
EDIT #2: Lonely Tylenol is in that list of flamers too. :)

my father doesn't want me on the forums, and he knows about my fft account. therefore, in order to keep posting, i need to use a different account.

Whaaaaa? CP and Mith are considered flamers and I'm not?
...No comment on Kyir. :p
And I think first unit ideas SHOULDN'T be flamed. The ones that aren't flamed generally turn out better posters, like Yours Truly. (Walrus gave me a good talking to about my Mage Killer/Illusionist, but there was never flaming involved.)

Those new to CAU (including me) Should definately read the CAU Guidlines created by serge...It outlays everything u should include and how to keep the unit's powers in reason...I think he knows what hes talking about so Read that Thread (which is stickied) and start making some good and original Units!!

Actually, that's not always true, tylenol. I got flamed to the point of extinction and I turned out alright. Maybe a few bruises still left over though.

Ah, but I do remember saying generally. That's the key word in that sentence.
Constructive criticism and advice do generally have a better impact.

Oops, my bad.
I must disagree, though. Flaming puts n00bs that post excessivley in their place. It shows them that they have to either shape up and post good threads/posts or leave the forums.

Haha Cross Punisher, Neither Was mine but I knew it was a bad idea after i posted it...*Sigh* My Paladin (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16303) is much better (I think) than my Tome of Power (http://www.tacticsarena.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16176)

Actually if anyone would like to PM me about what they think about my Hypnotist it would be greatly appreciated because the responses I did get didn't really understand how the unit works. I would just like to know what people think of it. Or you could just bump it back up to the 1st page. Sorry I double posted on it so much.
Thx.

CP, Mithrandir, and myself all created our first units without flames, but instead inciting thought provoking discussion, and look how we turned out, three of the most highly proclaimed posters on CAU (you can even look... Out of the three of us, we make up half the total units on the favorite CAU poll; Kyir, Walrus, and Serge make up the other half).
my first units were......."funny", no flaming, but alot of taunting =P

I wouldn't consider myself a prolific CAU creator due to being at a grand total of 6 units under my belt. But I think mine through a lot, which is why I don't have a lot so for the most part I've avoided flaming.
And I've already mentioned this but I'm quite proud of it so I'll say it again, I have the sole distinction of having my first ever unit as an official nominee in the updated poll. I started out pretty good and actually went downhill a bit from there (though to be honest I don't expect to ever create a unit that I consider to be better than the Minelayer).

Oh, someone, can i have a banner?
Lets investigate my 3 posts for each unit.
Also easily killed because it's 30 damage attack is blockable with 3 turn recovery and no blocking.
I noticed that you are new just recently joined the forums today, so I'll politely say that your units should be more throughly though out, and the fact that you have only 3 post, all of which are 3 mediocre units, shows you have no experience or you would know better.
The first paragraph is in no way flaming. The second paragraph may seem a little extreme for me, but after looking at all 3 of your units I felt it important that you know that you shouldn't just keep posting whatever unit comes into your head.
Melee isn't a range. Melee means the attack is blockable, but since you say it's a powered up Knight I assume the range is 1. A regular knight seems more effective as it will be able to get in more than one attack before it is killed because it can block, and this counts as 2 units.
BTW just to let you know we don't need "souped" up knights. We need more original units than this.
Anyone will telll you this isn't flaming.
Whatever happened to that "Worse Unit Idea" thread? Anyone seen it?
Soul-Shadow instant death is a BAD thing. Your special ability is very, overpowering especially with the addition of the wisp.
The first statement while unlike something I would usually post is me joking around with Mith because it was soo overpowered. The second statement was just constructive criticism.

“really? i thought aro's ent was his first unit, and it was nominated”
I don’t know what the circumstances are with the old poll, I’m talking about the new one.
I didn't like the ent much myself but that's just me.

Has anyone noticed how important the first post on a unit is. If the first post is positive the unit is more eagerly received than if the first post is negative in which most people seem to follow suit in saying how bad it is.
Mithrandir

I don't generally look at other people's posts when I come up with my own opinion. I often disagree with the majority about the quality of a unit, the first response doesn't affect me. I think the only thing this means is that people in general agree so whoever posts first is likely to have people agree with them, not necessarily because they said it first.

especially with the units that are borderline over/underpowered...whoever comments first starts the bandwagon. nice catch. :)

this is also true. Mith has his own style. i've noticed units that were accepted by others that Mith didn't like, while some that others hated, Mith thought were good. my compliments for having an unbiased opinion. :)

Mith's weird... and I am too. Most people just find it easiest to simply agree with what is said if they have no strong opinion in the matter.
In fact a lot of people here are weird.

Hey, you're right. Forgive my fragile memory. Actually, what I meant was our ideas recieved at worst constructive criticism and at best praise, but never real flamings, which might be in part why we all turned out to be good CAU posters.
