Terp, you realise that using that address directly violates the TOS of the game, right? You might want to lay off shouting it everywhere.

You should edit and take it out of the thread.

Jeff, what do you mean, it doesn't obay the TOS. What does the TOS say against it?

(xvi) create or maintain, under any circumstance, more than one simultaneous connection to Tactics Arena Online. All such connections to Tactics Arena Online, whether created by TAO Gaming, Inc software products or by other tools and utilities, may only be made through methods and means expressly approved by TAO Gaming, Inc Entertainment.
Since direct linking is not the official way to connect, it would violate the TOS. Also, most cheating occurs using that address in a n ormal browser, as it allows people to play themselves, which violates the one connection at a time rule.

Having said that, it means that 90% of members have broken the TOS, merely by either not opening TAO from the homepage or by having 2 windows open at once.
The TOS need to be revised. They were written when there was only one server and when there were about 10 gold members.

I agree. But the main reason people dislike that address being given is due to cheaters using it all. If it is less known, it is less likely to work.

I agree with both Bottle and Jeff, there limitations to how far it can be stretched, but then again alot of people have broken it.

Which *The Nothing* did and still does.
I did it but stopped and turned myself around. At least I admit I have done it unlike the nothing he denies it even though there are screenies to prove it.

It's just one of those things that should have been kept a secret, or at least kept quiet. Like that server that doesn't exist, etc. I liked it better when it used to change fairly often.

I dont think they should even allow the same ip to connect twice. That would stop cheating and things.
A little off subject, but I also think moderators should be able to kick ppl off the server, for however long they see fit.

Thats to much power for moderaters, there here to moderate, not adminstrate.

Glam, theres plently of secret's that are left untouched that hold much more value then the new version of tao or some servers that don't exist.

I disagree. There are MANY online games where Mods do just that, Moderate the game and game lobby. That is what an ingame Mod would do.
Krome

That would be very useful, but nearly all the mods are in the same time zone.

Thats true, but there are already 4 adminstrators and around 4-5 active moderators, if you start giving people who don't directly work for FPS and do moding on there own time, can make the game somewhat stylfling.

There are 2 admins active in the game occasionally, the other 2 never even swing by. There are 4 mods, none of which have any game powers.
And, since their usages could be easily logged, having mods able to actually drop someone from the server when they spam/curse, I doubt it would be "stifling" to now have someone shouting in the lobby. Also, that would be a stopgap measure, as the persons account would soon be deleted anyways.

Although i'm opposed to it, thats what the ticket system is for, spammers or lamers will eventually be dealt with, and remember the lobby wasn't designed as a chat system, it was designed as way to find oppenents (believe it or not).
Though that being said, that makes me a hypocrite.
Jeffery

The ticket system does not deal with cheaters or spammers. You have to PM a mod here in the forums, and for times when it is happeneing when the mod is sitting there in the lobby, what would it hurt to have the /kick command available to the mod?

Well the way that Sergiy is going I think tao will soon be a good place to be and free of cheaters, trollers and spammers.

If it is that big of a deal to listen to spam, then go do something a lil more productive.
Jeffery
04-17-2005, 04:20 PM
Yes, but that spam is also counter productive to a good business.
If a person considering buying a gold account has to sit there through hours of spam, they may decide to not buy.
There is also one case very recently where the spammers and cyber'ers were directly responsable for a parent deciding to cancel a gold account, because the talk in the lobby was more than they wanted their kid to be part of.

In the forums, maybe. He does seem to be doing a good job with the forums. I'm still waiting to see if he can actually pull off any actual game modifications (and I'm just talking about adding the simple stuff, like giving the moderators a little ability to... well... moderate.)
Jeffery

Well, in game it is him who is deleting spammers and cheaters when the Mods list them in the special hidden forums thread.
As for in game functions...... :(

Thats why theres something called a grey filter, and perhaps in the near distant future there "might" be something introduced to stop gold spammers...though "I" am not saying "Something" might be coming out soon for it.
