I'm assuming that this forum will be used to annouce tournaments, suggest ideas for tournaments, and run tournaments. This is merely a suggestion.

How about a tournament in which the only units that can be used are magic-based units? And of course for fairness, no drops would be allowed. In other words, only the following units would be allowed:

1 Dragon Tyrant
1 Dark Magic Witch
1 Cleric
2 Pyromancers
1 Enchantress
1 Frost Golem
1 Stone Golem
1 Dragonspeaker Mage
1 Poison Wisp
1 Lightning Ward
1 Barrier Ward
1 Furgon

*While I realize that the Assassin and Mud Golem can use magic attacks (ie the Ass bomb and Mud quake), it is too easy for someone to accidentally or purposefully take advantage of their melee attacks.

The purpose of this tournament is to eliminate the element of luck as much as possible by negating blocking. My preference would for this to be a free-form tournament, though variations that stipulated opposite-side turtles, same-side turtles, etc. would further reduce the element of luck to that of who goes first. Unit placement and strategy would be of much greater value in this type of tournament. The unit restrictions would force players to set new priorities in their strategies due to the loss of all 1-turn recovery units as well as all long-range units.

So what do you think? Interesting? Stupid?

Sounds hot :) we should make it either gold or grey oriented to keep fairness...or we could just let the greys challenge the golds ;)

it would probably have to be gold-only, just because there aren't enough grey magic units.

So in other words....you just want people to use bomb sets?..hmm it sounds ok...

I like it. The only part I havea slight quarrel with is that everybody in it will be using DSM + 2 Pyros, and with that, they could 1 side bomb, and that would be no fun, and involve a lot of luck when it comes to sides and first turn.

It's possible that everyone will use bomb sets. However, bomb vs. bomb still requires some skill/strategy because target priority will be very important. In any case, this is still an unrefined idea. As I said, variations could include further form restrictions such as predetermined sides and restriction of mages from the front row(s). Or better yet (though this will require massive screenshotting) take away the ability to kill the cleric within the first 3 turns.

if greys were allowed, they should be ble to use 2 dmw and 3 pyromancer, and 2 chantys, 1 bw and 1 lw,same amount of clerics (just to even the odds from dragons) wouldnt that be fun :)

that would not be feasible since all greys do not have the same drops.

DMW, Dragon, DSM, 2 Pyros, Wisp, LW; thats 7 possible damage units. Some turtle formations have less than that.

It's going to be a matter of luck. There will be two formations; bomb and turtle. The turtles will stone DSM, dragon and pyros, bombs will aim to get the cleric ASAP. If the bomb gets first turn, cleric is dead; if not, any pyros that would burn the cleric are dead.

It'll come down to formation, as with any tournament. And that is a matter of luck which can only be removed by exact same formations.

duh, theres always an element of luck that cannot be completely removed. in fact, it's a necessity. otherwise, how would you determine who goes first? however, this tourney would cut down on luck by eliminating the one luck factor that everyone complains about: blocking. also, the lower hp and higher turn recoveries will force you to carefully consider your moves instead of burn burn burn that bombs favor.

It's ok in theory but it would be a bit unfair.

wisps may not kill but they cause a lot of damage especially in a magice turt

Well I have 10 witches on Banff. So thats a crazy bomb there, but pyros would rule that set. So no point in using that. The best set would prolly be a turt form.Lw in front and keep some units up front to stop a bomb..but armor the others. The wisp up front with a few mages may cause damage. If u can wisp 4 units then use a witch or Dsm then you have a big lead. Double clerics and bw would defenitly help if u want your unit to attack again. Sounds fun but I dont kno if skill really comes into play, its more of how you and your oppenent set up the units.
