That's right, Sony has released some juicy info about the upcoming PlayStation 3 which is slated to launch in Spring of '06. So here I am to hook you foo's up with some linkage.

System Specs (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614682p1.html)

Yeah, it's backwards compatible, I find it's a good thing. :P However, to non-tech-geeks like me those are just numbers; I want to see what this thing is gonna look like.

System Pictures (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614727p1.html)

That thing looks pretty smooth, the white and grey colored systems look like what M$ was going for with their ugly off-white design. I would stick with the black one though. You can't play games without a controller, at least for this generation of video gaming. So...

System Controller (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614736p1.html)

Yeah, that's what I said. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Apparently no one told this to Sony when they went dingo hunting with the controllers. Though one cool thing is a lack of cord in the picture, they may have taken a leaf out of M$'s book and went wireless, which is a good thing, _if_ the wireless controllers work as good as the Wavebirds. I still think everyone should just steal the GC controller. That thing is beautiful. Anyways, back to Sony. Now obviously, you save the best for last, and a big library is how Sony did so well this last go 'round.

The Games! (http://ps3.ign.com/articles/614/614708p1.html)

Yeah, lists are boring.

Killzone Screenage (http://media.ps3.ign.com/media/748/748475/imgs_1.html)

First off, I appologize in advance for the vulgar use of the suffix -age. Also, if you are still wanting more, click here (http://ps3.ign.com) to browse some stuff on your own. There isn't much, as of now, most of the links are just to tell you, yeah that game is being made for the PS3, but no they have no more info than that yet. There are a few more schway screenies though; one each of Devil May Cry 4 and a new Fight Nights game, there's also some pictures of a new Warhawk game as well as a new Getaway game.

Enjoy! ^_^

Hmmm..... is it just me or are these things becoming more sci-fi 1980s movie props??

Nevertheless should be interesting to see when it comes out to the market. Looks like it'll be another Sony/Microsoft battle... weird part is, doesn't Microsoft own Sony? Or is that just a weird rumour that I heard...

You should probably wait to see what Nintendo comes out with before you make a final decision. They could pull a show stopper and come out with some kind of juggernaut with power akin to what the Xbox was this gen of systems. Also, I wouldn't have called these last few years a Microsoft/Sony battle, either. Personally the GC was my favorite system. Also, I'm pretty sure M$ doesn't own Sony, yet.

I had to comment...c'mon now LoL.

After watching the PS3 conference...I feel more aware of what Sony has to bring to the table. And if they ACHIEVE what they want...they will dominate the competition. I say that with a little sarcasm simply because they fluffed up the PS3 to be something it wasn't. Yes, they showed the capabilities...but that was what the developers of the SYSTEM could do with just a few days worth of work without thinking of actual players in mind.

Now, for the good stuff you're too lazy to go find out:

1) The PS3 will be a home base of sorts. It supports up to 7 blue tooth controllers. And, also will be accessable through your PSP. If you own a PSP...feel lucky if they implement this. Your PSP, will serve as a remote for the PS3. So you can just leave your PS3 on at home, fly to china, and play your PS3 games on your PSP no prob. Also, you can connect to media stored on your PS3 (movies, game content, music, pics, files) seemlessly. This sounds truly amazing.

The eye toy looks like it will play a vital role in PS3's technology advancement. They showed a demo of rubber ducks and battle ships in real time...then, they hooked up the eye toy...and grabbed just 2 ordinary glasses (drinking glasses). And started to just use the eye toy with the bathtub environment. Basically, they showed with the eye toy...any household environment can be used to alter your gameplay. They took the glasses and dipped them in the virtual tub, grabbed some water...and started playing with it. Was extremely cool looking.

Overall...the PS3 amazed me...and i'll never be the same. But, I will not make my final judgement until I see Microsoft's and Nintendo's conference. Will comment later if needed. Until then...enjoy your gaming :D.

blazer i hope you get neg repped to death, stop being a moron everywhere you post pelase

i seriously hope the controller gets re-worked before release, that thing (gamespy dubbed it a 'batterrang controller') just looks painful, however it all sounds REALLY nice

slippy somehow i doubt the feasability of playing PS3 games in another country, the data transfer rate of modern technology across the net just isnt fast enough i don't think... viewing pictures and listening to songs, sure, but those blue-ray discs are gonna be massive and transferring even a 1/20th of the data would take forever, especially if your at a wireless hotspot that is well used

anyone seen the pics for the Revolution? it looks like Nintendo ripped the PS2 design off... hope they actually get it right though http://media.cube.gamespy.com/articles/615/615078/img_2789436.html

looks like the tradition of pwnage in a micro-package will continue :)

Now THIS is what I'm talking about.

Sony has ALWAYS been good to me.

I'm about to get a PSP in a VERY short time, and if what you say about the PS3 is true, Slip...my goodness.

Absolutely lovely...and the new controller is indeed sexy. They didn't have to make a new controller because the old one would have sufficed, but for the sake of style, they did.

Lovely.

I always knew you were different, TC, but really. EVERYONE likes Zelda. It's like the greatest game series of all time. The only Zelda game that wasn't great was Majora's Mask, and I know a few people who swear that game is almost as good as OOT.

Aro23r

I liked it Majora's Mask. That task book was so much fun.

Sony and Xbox are only about saying, "hey look at this shrunken computer." Nintendo makes quality games, albeit not as many games, in general, as the other two, but at least when Nintendo releases a game, you know it'll be good.

Mario, Kirby, Zelda, the new Mario sports series, Mario Party, etc...

Sony and Xbox have nothing like that.

I say Xbox because Microsoft has nothing else in the industry. At least Sony branches out, so I use that name to include everything they do.

xerent
05-17-2005, 08:32 PM
Nintendo also has a very different market then Sony or Xbox.

Sony/Xbox has the Madden - Racing - Fighting genre.

Nintendo however, has the gaming genre. It's not about hot cars, newer stats, etc... it's about playing a game. Nintendo hasn't forgotten about that.

Exactly.

Someone on the Netjak forums said something I think is pretty interesting. They said that Nintendo feels, that in this day and age, they've reached a point where any system can acheive pretty graphics, so it's not important to make their system a juggernaut like the PS3 and the X360. They're betting their system will be easier to develop games for, and thus they'll have a larger number of games, as well as better quality games. And of course, they have Mario, and Mario is the shhhhtuff.

Just to comment further since I've watched all conferences now...

Before I get started...look at what is supposedly a portable gamecube...

http://img.engadget.com/common/images/9131584372647915.JPG?0.09143652745668374

Alright...down to business.

The PS3 conference is what everyone is talking about. They showed Killzone 2 (supposedly in game footage), in realtime and showed what the PS3 could do. Same with Fight Night 3. While these were insanely incredible looking...they were also, pre-scripted, pre-rendered motions for showing off power and looks, over substance and gameplay. This is what bothered me about the Sony conference....there was NO gameplay footage at all. Although I wish I could post a link to the nearly 2 hour Sony conference...no place to host it. Sorry.

The Microsoft conference was all about flash, and showoffyness than anything else. They showed the power of online gaming (FREE gaming right out of the box for all), and it's even more functionality. They showed nothing but gameplay footage and footage of games yet to come. Wow, they have an impressive 3rd party support onslaught coming their way LoL. Also, did anyone know that the PSP can be connected to the Xbox 360? lmao. M$ poked a little at Sony for them discovering they could use their competitors own hardware against them.

Nintendo.....wow....I felt informed at what they told me. Over 2 billion units of software sold, GBA and DS sold more consoles than anyone or anything to date. They also revealed something new at their conference. As one of the spokesman stated:

"I bet you haven't seen this yet"

http://img.engadget.com/common/images/8313187118786387.JPG?0.12511911169524204

A little bigger than the iPOD (thickness) and the size of a small cell phone....the Gameboy Micro is a new wave of tech for a gaming world.

They also revealed the new Nintendo Revolution...

http://img.engadget.com/common/images/7820484382759148.JPG?0.3979967908434199

Although everyone might think wtf? There's more than meets the eye. In a previous video posted online... NintendoON (www.nicklin.us/NintendoOn.wmv) was supposed to be the Nintendo "Revolution". Everyone started calling it fake, and someone even stepped up and claimed it to be fake and for poking fun at console makers.

But upon closer inspection...the ON video, and the Nintendo press conference, had pretty much everything in common. From the things stated ion the video, to things stated in the conference. Also, the Metroid footage was repeated in the conference that was shown in the supposedly leaked footage. Also, the controller for the revolution was never shown or even anything about the system itself was talked about. He said "Wait till the 19th". Interesting.

Every system has it's own power, capabilities, and games. We're in for some great gaming in the future.

You forgot a small detail about Nintendo Revolution:
The wireless network will allow you to download from Nintendo games going back almost 20 years into it's past. Talk about backwards compatable........
NES, SNES and all those games will be available on Revolution.

I disagree with that person too. As far as I'm concerned, Nintendo has let their pride blind them to the industry. That's why they let even n00b Microsoft whoop them in their own game, as well as Sony.
