For those of you who love deceit, treachy, blackmail, sex, larceny and murder; It's time for a murder mystery. So crack open a bottle of 1936 burgandy, tuck into your Yorkshire Pudding and come along for the ride that will test your lingustic powers to maintain your innocence while catching a murderer.
Basically 8 people will be given a role and a username. These 8 people must work together to solve the mystery. It plays out like so:
There are 4 rounds. I will give the 8 suspects their clues at the begining of each round. You must, during the round, reveal all facts about others clearly however you do not have to reveal facts about yourself. The rule on this is you cannot lie. You may, however, be evasive or equivocal about facts that might incriminate you or change the subject potentially arousing more suspicion towards you. A round is finished when all necessary facts are revealed (i will need confirmation from the players that they have revealed all their facts). At the end of round 4 each suspect will make their final accusation. Then i will reveal the truth .
That is not all though. As an 8 player game would not work for a whole forum, everyone may make enquires and accuse suspects as long as they address themselves as a character. You can be anything, a bartender, Lord or Earl, even a Private Investigator..
But wait there is still more. The forum identity of the suspects will not be revealed. Thus not only can we speculate about who commited the murder we can speculate about who is playing the roles! We'll see who has the best acting skills out there :)
This idea is going to take a fair amount of work on my part, writing out all the clues, recording the audio and what not so i ask that you confere with reality when you agree to play to see if you can actually particpate fully.
Please post all thoughts on the idea here but if you are going to sign up, PM me, don't post it here!. As we want to keep as much secrecy as to who is playing as we can ;)
Also I am taking this from a board game I own called How to host a murder. It's meant to be done in person but i definitely think it can be done here. If you have this game please don't spoil it. Thanks for reading.
"Remeber, you're out to catch a murderer. Be inquisitive! Be aggressive! Be suspicious! Exercise the leetle grey cells!"

Holy crud this is an awesome idea, it sounds like Mafia (something I LOVE!). I'm definitely interested.
Although, I'm gonna be on vacation in about a week and a half so I can't participate. Maybe next time, great idea though.

you don't get to choose, he assigns a character, that way a person's "true" identity can't be found out until the end. that way too a person's way of typing doesen't give them right away :glare: :)

Well i do have another copy of this game with a whole different mystery and characters so if this goes well then we'll see about the 2nd one ;).
I'm excited about this!
Oh and Necross one of the big determining factors on who i choose to play will how well they can hide who they are and if they are playing. You kinda screwed yourself there :p. Or maybe i'm saying this to trick everyone. Or maybe i said that to trick everyone. Or maybe i'll just shut my big mouth.

is that where all the nabor hood kids get to geather in 2 teams and try to "pretend" to kill the other team by: seeing them in the distance and pointing and yelling "BANG!! I SHOT YOU, YOUR DEAD!" Back in my day we called it "war" but i can see how it would relate

Nope, that isn't Mafia. Mafia involves passing out cards and having a doctor and a sherriff and a mafia (or two) and villagers trying to figure out who the mafia is.

i would love to as roger, but i do have one question, are you informing the person they are the accused before the round,
and a suggestion, every character is an upperclass, which is contradictory to the large majority of the people in the us in hte 30s and 40s, i would say you largely have people from every demograph minus the poor, i say have an intellectual drifter not like a crazy bum, but imagine kevin costner in a worn leather jacket and hat,
Jeffery

Roaming, he is doing the game based DIRECTLY on the board game he has at his house. This includes the characters.
Also, Murder mysteries in general rarely include the poor, and tend to be focused on the upper class and their servants

The idea of the private eye with his exquisit mistress showgirls that exchange sexual innuendo for investigation about their lost diamond jewelry is _all_ done in 1930's format :). Before your CSI and your Medical Investigator they solved elaborate mysterys without DNA, without ultra violet super magnatronic automatic self analyzing hand bag snatcher trackers, they just used their wit and the ability to make conclusions. It's oldschool :).
Keep the signups coming guys! My PM box should be full!

Update: I've scanned everything, recorded the audio and typed out 6 of the 8 books of clues. All I have to do it type up the rules and the remaining two books. So this will definitely start this weekend. I haven't finalised positions yet so I would
_Love some more sign ups_
Or at least an expression of interest to say you will participate in the thread even if you don't have the time to be a suspect so I know that my efforts haven't been in vain.
Plus it won't take up that much time. As I've told everyone who has asked me, all you are required to do is post half a page of clues which I have typed up for you. However if you want the mystery to be enjoyable 15 minutes every day or every couple of days is enough to answer questions, post clues and ask questions.
Sorry for the bump.

The thing about that game that I never understood, Jeff, was how they couldn't narrow down the weapons just a tad. I mean, honest;y, how can you confuse a revolver murder with a rope murder?
I'm taking the game too literally aren't I?

I just looked at the thread over there...
Duff said people copuld sign up and make new characters.
Maybe those interested could ask Duff, and have a new forum name made for their character. Just posting in your normal forum account ruins the illusions, not to mention just jumping in and beginning to post with no explanation of who you are and such is just bad role playing.

Sorry Duff. I'll make my character.
Name: Timothy Smith
Age: 21
Occupation: Guillotine(sp?) factory worker with father.
Background: Has been accusing off killing people at his factory, but their was never any evidece of the matter. Somewhat naive. And always keeps to suspection. :D

That is some horrible grammar, Spit. Anyways, I just read through the thread, sig and Draq did an okay job with not getting in the way, but they didn't really advance the clue finding in anyway, pretty much just served as props. Spit, you got a little carried away, with your inane statement of a bloody cloth. If you had read the post by the detective, the guy was drowned, so...no blood. Anyways, that's just my 2 cents.
Also, Spit, your character has to be one of Sir Roger's servants. As the seven guests and the secretary were the only people in the mansion other than Sir Roger's servants.

Now simply stop posting there unless you have a character, and are willing to 100% stay in it.
I would Ask Duff to make you a character and name, and integrate it into the game more, as just running in and saying random stuff doesn;t quite fit, especially since there is already a Butler in attendance.
