No, not just forum warfare- clan warfare. This is the game TAO, and we should play TAO. I hope this idea inspires more people to join all clans, and allows more opportunities for clan members more game focused.

Here's my idea:
1. Any member from any clan can challenge any member of any other clan.
2. The challenge can be accepted or rejected. If rejected, nothing changes.
3. If accepted, game is fought. The winner gains a kill for their clan, the loser gains a loss for their clan.
4. Total kills and losses for all clans are kept track of- at first on the forum, eventually on a website.

High kill/loss ratio and high total kills gain prestige and prominence for your clan...and it adds values to the fighter type clan members. It also gives us something to play for besides the ranking system.

Please reply with thoughts and suggestions.

I like it, but there are a few minor problems.

#1) Clans accepting newbies actually have a disadvantage then, making it hard for your clan to grow.

#2) It is hard to keep track of which people are in which clans

#3) It is hard for a clan as ours, The Warlord Confederation, to fight KOTRT. Come to think of it, are there any other clans on Armageddon?

n00bs grow and become better. We were all n00bs at one point, the same philosophy as we were all babies at one point.

We could have the clan reps post their members and update them regularly.

and how is it hard to fight???

I just meant considering that they are on Banff and Great lakes, and we are on Armageddon.

I'm creating a league as we speak. Expect it to start after the second tournament series (figure around late january-early february)

I'm also thinking that we should create a rating system for players (lyou know, start off at 1600, goes up for win, down for loss, more up if you win against a better player, etc etc) like the one we have at our site (http://www.imperturbable.net/rating) so that n00b-bashing other clan members doesn't do as much. Maybe you could even have a clan rating, instead of kill count, to further reuce n00b-bashing.

Just an idea. I think clan tourneys would be awesome.

That's a damn good idea. As undoubtably there are mebers of clans that would go noob bashing for that exact purpose. (not naming any name's hashish scout :D JJ)

Like the rating system they use on Yahoo Games, right?

I suppose so, never used that b4. The system is used on tons of online things, from card games to fps to d&d. plus, choi knows how to do it so i might be able to conscript him if im lucky :D

They are our allies though...

Lemme re-word that. Any opposing clans on Armageddon?

There is no way to stop there from being a penalty for accepting newbs unless there is also no advantage for accepting good players.

That said, there are ways to prevent newbie killings- and I think I addressed it in the first post. Reject challenges you know you can't win. Only challenged games count towards total score; if you just play someone from another clan without both players knowing that it counts, it doesn't.

It is hard to keep track of who is in which clan, but that will be true until someone changes the way the actual game works. Challenge by PMs and the forums if you don't know anyone in the lobby.

I think if something like this is implemented, more clans will start and more people will join other clans. There will be rival clans on all servers, as well as cross-server clans. Plus, because it is kills that matter and not ranking, there is no reason you couldn't create an account on GL just to play games against a KOTR members, while still keeping your normal account on Armag.

Clan Ranking- maybe. So winning against more experienced players would increase your clan rating more than winning against less experienced players. I think that could work. Everyone would have an individual rating, and the clan would have a combined clan rating. Only problem with that is, total games isn't taken into account, so the most elite clans would be the only ones that gained recognition. Most wins as well as best ratio would both matter if we used a simple win/loss count.

Skribe- could you describe what the league would be like?

Wins worth 2 points, losses worth none, ties worth one. I'm working out a way of rotating players so not just one person plays for each clan. Standings will be kept much like that of any other professional league, and then playoffs at the end.

Ok- what I'm proposing is a lot different, a lot less formal.

Still, I'll join any clan tournaments you start.

yeah KOTR will own all

xyxaxyz2
12-18-2003, 05:59 PM
It can't "own all" until something similar to what I posted actually starts- and that can't happen unless someone decides to actually start something like it and the other clans agree.

Killer_kev

Just PM me with your e-mail addy if you want a copy of the PHP code KOTR uses on intra-clan rating. If you know some programming and not PHP you can still get the formula out of the code. Hmm. Maybe I can mae a graphic of the formula and post that... will check.

Yes, we should keep this on topic. So, what does everyone want? Clan rank or clan win/loss count?
