Do any of you guys play with RC cars or planes or boats, etc?
I happened upon an HPI Nitro MT RC the other day. http://www.hpiracing.com/index2.htm
-scroll down to older models
anyway...I found the car in an attic of a rental house that my gf just moved in to. It was laying on the floor in a "million" pieces. The only way i recognized it was a car was because of the chasis with a wheel attached was laying in the middle of all the pieces.
So, I grabbed all of the pieces and put them in a box and took them home with me. It took me about 7 hours last night, but I was finally able to sort through all of the pieces and found that every necessary piece for functionality was available, so I put the car back together.
I went to radio shack today and bought some nitro fuel this morning, and to my surprise, when I gassed the little bugger up and pulled the starter, the engine came to life.
so...YEAH!!! I have just acquired, for free, a working, nitro fueled, RC car that is worth about $300 brand new.
It is taking me a while to get the engine tuned just right, but I am close.
This little car hauls some serious ass. At full throttle, it does somewhere around 40-45 mph.
Does anyone here play with RC's? I wouldn't mind a few pointers!

When I was little I played with them, and some kids and I raced them through traffic when there was a red light...but then they got squashed. So don't do what we did. There's a pointer.
Another one: if it's worth something, clean it up and get it fixed. Then save it for a few years. It'd be worth alot!

I play with and sell parts for xmods. They are a blast. I can get mine up to ~50mph, although obviously the first pebble and its done.

The last time I ever played with my RC was when we last had batteries in the house...which was like 2 years ago.
Does any one notice that either? You always need batteries and when you get them there gone the next day, it's a never-ending cycle of profit for energizer!!
And I hate black outs because I can hardly remember how, what or where a flash light is in my house there all dead
The best advice I can give for getting good with RC’s is to just use it a lot or get a racing game those seem to help too

I have a feeling his car goes a tad bit faster than yours did. I'm not sure how helpful those tips are.

I used to have a huge RC car called The Raptor XL. It was fun to terrorize my neighbors' cats with it. ;)

Only problem is that even with a alum frame it gets destroyed. Wipe out in a 6 inch long car going 50mph and nothing is left.

ok...
UPDATE:
After getting off work tonight, I was able to get the engine tuned well enough to run, but my throttle settings were set just a little too low. So the engine kept dying on me. It turns out that the pull starter was pretty worn out already and was begging to die at any time. And it did.
Well, I spent 10 bucks on fuel for this car and spent somewhere in the vicinity of 12-15 hours trying to make it work. When I succeeded, I ran into a road block. So, I shelled out the 25 bucks for a new starter.
The car is amazingly fast, and at full throttle is nearly impossible to control. This could be due to suspension issues though(completely beside the point). I was blown away at the raw speed of this thing. I guess I just wasn't expecting it. Also, considering the fact that I found the car in tons of pieces and I put it together without any experience, I am surprised that it ran at all.
NOW I HAVE TO WAIT A FREAKING WEEK FOR DELIVERY!!!

Nitro RC's kick ass. I've had one at over 50mph. Take it out on a nice flat road sometime. Make sure you have turn ratios cranked down, and set to heavy touch.
That way you don;t flip it by turning sharp.
I am also VERY jealous of your ass.
I curretn;y own a few crappy electro RC's, including a b-2 bomber and a helicopter (wirh busted tail rotor)

I was actually able to rig the pull starter to work yesterday. and it worked long enough for me to get the car started. I was able to drive the car around for about 5 minutes or so. Then it died and my rig-job on the starter quit working.
That was the best the car has ran though. It was the funnest 5 minutes of my entire weekend.

I have a sweet truck that was 4 weel drive, but I have not used it in along time, gas is really really expensive for it. I doing know how fast it goes since I have no way to juge the mph. But I canot outrun it, and I am not braging but I am preaty fast.
