Most people have PC's. I don't mind Macs, but I prefer PC's. Of course, Macs do have iMovie which is hella-tight :)

I was saving up to get an iBook, but then I decided that I kind of liked my computer, and I didn't want to have to transfer all of my music (1,400 songs). That would have been a pain in the butt.

I prefer PC's also, they're easier to work with. Although there are some things that could be fixed.

EDIT: Pretty much the only thing I would take over anything else from Apple is the iPod.

I had an iBook for a while (don't have it now, will again later).
I definately liked some of it's small features, such as expose (sp?). But that pretty much all, just the small basic features that I liked. Then again, the iBook I had was pretty basic I think.

However if you get a mac, you'll still have the microsoft programs such as Word.

Macs are good if you want to go into video or graphics editing. Even the most basic Mac has programs like iMovie, Garage Band, and iDVD. The multitasking is much better on a Mac also.
With the news that Macs will be starting to use Intel Chips instead of the PowerPC chips starting next year, the difference between Mac and PC will lessen, but for now PC's are still the better lowend product.

However, if you want a good quality system pretty cheap, go for the MiniMac. Base model for $500.

However, if you are into the computer for gaming and internet applications, you are better off staying with the PC's for now.

Well, I operate on a PowerMac G4 at the moment, but I have it updated with Jaguar software (which is 10.3 or something). It works very well, especially with Optimum Online, which I strongly recommend.
If you currently have a PC monitor and keyboard, the Mac Mini would be best. It's extremely small and hooks up to virtually any keyboard and monitor. It comes equipped with iLife '05, some very good software.
There are also the iMac and PowerMac G5. The iMac version is just a 2-inch screen with the computer inside. The PowerMac version looks much like the PowerMac G4, ezcept it's sleeker and has a metal skin.

Those are some good options. For more info: www.apple.com

Made by Mattel.

Seriously however, they are decent machines. I'm contemplating getting one in the near future.

No, this qualifies as a relevant thread. Don't like it? Leave and do something productive. Like fixing your banner size. ;)

I've used linux, macs, pc's, redhat at home, and some interesting little setups on school comps a few times. Its given me a bit of a look at how the "other sides" use their comps.

it all just depends on what your going to be using for your comp. Macs are great, and much better at working various media. If you do photography, movies, animation, interior design, etc macs the way to go.

Just to save myself a lot of effort in a lot of compatability issues, I stick with PC. I don't do much media work these days, and almost no webmaster stuff, so I just don't really need the Mac on a lot of its strong point.

If you have $500 to spend, get a MiniMac. The iMovie and IDVD alone, along with the rest of iLife makes it worth it.

We have one currently (dropped in 512 ram though).
We will be buying one with a gig ram, and the superdrive next month.

well sniper boy you can leave and that is all I have to say to you.

Hey guys...I have spent almost a 1000$ custom modding a tower. I don't want a whole new computer, I just want to say screw microsoft and install a mac os on my comp that I have, if that is possible. If not tell me now so I can start thinking about just buying a new mac computer. I really like those little square macs...are those the mac minis?

Jeffery

No, you can not install OSX into a PC box. Even the new Max OS coming out built on Intel chips will be designed to only work with Apple version x86 type chips.
Yes, the small square ones are Mini Macs. For $800 you can have a pretty nice one (hint, buy Memory upgrades at a polace like Crucial.com, not at Apple)

yea i thinking ???? 100$ for 512 mb. I just bought a gig for 30$.

Well that sucks and no NO no NO that mini mac is not the one that I am thinking of. There is a mac computer that is bigger than that, it has room for 2 drives in it but it is only about 8 10 inchis tall. maby it is just a case that can be got.

Jeffery
06-22-2005, 06:31 PM
Thats just a G4 or G5 tower case. With the Superdrive on a MiniMac, there is no need for 2 drives.

well yea but I like being able to get into the case and work on it...that mini mac just looks to small. I really am liking that D shaped case. My town newspaper has alot of them and well my mom put a ad in I snuk over to one and was messing around with it. kinda cool, tell I got caught.
