The Revelation vs. Legends Invitational Tournament
Introduction
Many wonder how is a good player defined; is it by his stats? is it by his reputation? Or is it by which players he beat? Truth be told its very hard to define a good player because of the so many different playing styles that exist in TAO. A true good player should be able to cope with all the different situation, not necessarily with one formation however, because there is no one formation to defeat them all. Inspired by the Davis Cup I thought to design a tournament that will test all around the skills of the player to truly determine which server has the better players and this is how the tournament will run.
Teams
Naturally there will be two teams, one for the Legends server and one for the Revelation server, each with seven players and two substitutes.
One of the seven will be the team captain, who is not necessarily the best at a specific skill, but is best all around.
There will be two substitute players who will play in case of no shows.
Once the teams are declared and the games have started you cannot change the team composition. Hence please be sure that ALL players on your team can access the Revelation server as it makes use of a different port and server. Also please be sure all players are able to commit to six matches each.
We request that all participants make sure they have an active account in the TAO forums (www.tacticsarena.com/forums) as this is how communication will be brought about.
The competition
To cover the main skills in TAO there will be 3 events. In no event are unit drops allowed, but more specific details about allowed formation follow:
Grey vs. Grey
A test of the basics, only default grey units are allowed. Meaning any combination of ten of the following:
1 Lightening ward
1 Barrier Ward
1 Dark Magic Witch
1 Cleric
1 Assassin
1 Enchantress
2 Pyromancers
1 Scout
3 Knights
Turtle vs. Turtle
This event is for the old school tacticians, to assure turtles are indeed used some guidelines must be followed concerning the formation:
- No Dragon Speaker mage are allowed on board.
- No Ambusher allowed on board.
- A stone golem must be included in the formation.
- At least eight out of the ten units are to be placed on one side of the board, where the middle counts as in the side where the least units are found.
Freestyle
Any combination basic gold units is allowed as long as not unit drops are used, meaning any ten of the following in any formation:
1 Lightening ward
1 Barrier Ward
1 Dark Magic Witch
1 Dragon Speaker Mage
1 Beast Rider
1 Dragon (counts as 2 units)
1 Mud Golem
1 Frost Golem
1 Stone Golem
1 Furgon
1 Cleric
1 Assassin
1 Enchantress
2 Pyromancers
2 Scouts (!)
3 Knights
1 Wisp
1 Ambusher
The running of events
All events will have five contestants per team, who each be facing three opponents from the opposing team, bringing the total games to 15 per events.
The opponents whom a player will face will be drawn at random in such a manner where each player will play 3 games.
Each player will be allowed to participate in two events, which have to be pre-declared before any event take place.
The team captain will play in all three events.
The team with the most victories in a specific event will receive a point.
In case of a tie between the two teams, the team captains will play each other once more to determine where the point goes.
All events are run on the Revelation server.
A failure to show up for a match will result in losing that match. Unless one of the substitutes immediately shows up. If the player in question has yet to play a game, the substitute will play his second game as well.
It is the responsibility of the individuals to make sure they meet this can be done anyway they see fit. The recommended ay is via private messages in the TAO forums.
A screenshot will be needed as proof of victory in all matches in case your victory is challenged. We ask the players to be honest or they will face sanctions. The reports are to be made to RevVsLeg@gmail.com by the winner of the match in the following format:
Event
Player 1 vs. Player 2
Winner
Example:
Turtle vs. Turtle
Snarr vs. theburning
Snarr won
We will then use this information to update the standings found in the forums.[/color]
Winning
The team who wins 2 or 3 events wins the overall competition.
The winning team will have the right to brag unless it came down to a tie in the determining event where the leaders sparred with each other. While this is done to determine a winner the servers will be said to be truly matched if it comes to that.
The winning team will also receive anywhere from a pat on the back to a handshake from yours truly.
Problems
In the case of special problems please address the theburning or Snarr at RevVsLeg@gmail.com OR contact DivineRight at goldaccounts@tacticsarena.com Private messages in the forums can also be used. We will need contacts at Legends as well who will help organise and can be turned to.
Any decisions which will be jointly taken by the organisers surpass any rules stated above.
Any dishonesty by participants will lead to their disqualification and two victories awarded for the other team. If the captain is guilty of such actions his team will lose automatically.
Last words
Remember this is a game so play it and have fun, best of luck to both teams!
