View Full Version : Overreliance on tricks

I decide to go enter an empty arena and low and behold a Grey comes in to fight me. They're set up defensively with an assassin and knight on the ends while I'm in my defensive ball.

The game rolls on and apperently he's out doing me. He sneaks pryos in to bother my golems while somehow taking out my cleric with his scout. I'm still holding but I every move seems set up to give him an opening: I use my dragon, he jumps in to kill my armor. I armor and he swipes at my scout. I para and out comes his scout while everything is recovering. So on.

At this point I'm worried that I might lose my first Gold game against a Grey when he starts to talk. His conversation piece? "Press F5 to get another pryo".

WHAT!?

He has a tactical advantage. He can win the match and he's trying to make me quit?!

I resist the urge to cuss him out and remember the forum suggested reply to this "I did it but nothing happened". He says to try again. I say nothing happened, adding to innocence by asking if something should happen (who knows, it might be a silent bonus).

Soon after that, he leaves.

Now, I can see people trying stuff like this when they are clearly losing, or even at the start for a quick win. However, a match that's definatly in your favor and they leave because their 'sneaky trick' fails? Is a fair win so horrible that they won't accept it even if it's handed to them?

Oh well. I keep my track record and I'll now tweak my set up a little more. I REALY want to make this no-knight thing work. Perhaps if I had another Rider.

*amused*

I still think that no knight thing is doomed from the beginning... meatshields are just so... happy

NO KNIGHTS!?!?! (shudders in fear) I wouldn't know what I would do with myself if I didn't have my ever so handy and powerful Knights. They are just so wicked.

I do it all the time in these games. If the gold units weren't so wonderful I'd probably try making pyros useful. I have a glut of punishment when playing the underdog. It might also be because I loved destroying knight masses with my enchant when I was Grey.

I think it might work anyway. If I can compensate for the high health/high block of the knights (Bless the makers for golems) I'll have fast acting units that don't have to cringe at blocking like the scouts do.

Knights add a lotta HP/armor, that your opponent must spend time on to kill. Add a +30 armor and using two together is a tank....
I've tried no knights once, too risky in my opinion.

Knights are usually my last line of defense, and just that defense. Everything else is just my attacking units until it gets right down to the end. I could understand not having my assassians or scouts or maybe even my pyros but never my knights... to much of a walking, blocking, high-HP... thingy-guy-dude with a shield.

My knights get to attack as an offensive unit all the time because my formation is completely defensive so people try to rush me so I have to be paralyzeing with my Frostie and then taking care of people fast so the Knight's low recovery and pretty high damage keep me in business.

I use my knights real offensively. Usually I'll get one behind my enemies and have it hack away at them. Of course it's a suicide mission, but it racks up some decent damage. It'll also keep my enemy's units back and away from my people.
