He had the exact counter setup, so he won.

And every possible combination of the three.

Nothing but the bullshit I've been trying to point out for Months - the role of luck in a freestyle game. Luck will always be here, with every gametype you play including turtling, but why emphasize the role of it so enormously. Especially since NOBODY likes this aspect of the game. Everyone complains about luck, but everyone keeps on rushing. When I discuss it with rushers I hear things like: A rush game is way more exciting/it's played faster and what not. Then why is it that I never hear these things AFTER a game. There is SO MUCH MORE bitching after a freestyle game than after a turtle game. Why? Because of luck in every possible way - setup / blocking / first turn. Luck that we all hate so much, luck that we allow to play such a larger role than we have to.

I've played 2 freestyle games in these wars, and I won both. The first I won due to blocking, the second due to first turn. No fun or skill was involved. I didn't play better than them, Clacker had me beat till my units blocked a few times, allowing me to get the upper hand. True, both of these examples could have happened with turtling as well, but, and this is what I'm trying to explain, it just does NOT happen that often.

Of course there exceptions. I firmly believe that Frylock / Omegashin / CRX / Allstar and others(Sorry for not naming great rushers outside Netjak, I just don't know them.) are great at rushing, and win most games due to skill and not luck. But this just doesn't go for the other 90% of the people who rush.

Mainly b/c I am too messed up most of the time to keep my balance. I go into Toys R Us all the time, I find the pogo sticks and usually get about 3 bounces before I almost crack my head open on the adjacent isles. After scaring the children and parents around me with explicatives for each fall I start to take (usually around 3 to 4 tries) I generally see a Toys R Us worker headed my direction. Usually I give it one more go around as they approach just to rub it in their face and give them the possibility to see my crack my skull one last time before I ditch the stick, walk by them and say "hey" as if nothing just happened. So far I haven't been kicked out, but they must have pretty lax rules b/c I haven't even started telling you all about when I find bikes I can actually fit on there.

I'm quite aware of this aspect of the game. An honest player has to admit that first turn plays a huge role in the game's outcome. I blame much of this on the wisp.

However, I've not yet come to the point where I feel the game is imbalanced. I simply view it as a challenge that must be overcome. I already have an idea for a formation that can win, regardless of first or second move. My hope is to defeat this obstacle and introduce a breakthrough in the game, quite like I did with the mage bomb. :) Back in those days, everyone thought that the turtle was end-all.

I don't complain about the two scouts and the golemambusher...the game has evolved SO much around the cleric that people don't think the game is playable without it. The ambusher simply forces people to play differently.

The danger of getting hung up with the false idea that "turtles are the only kind of formation the requires skill" is that once the predictable turtle is inevitably made obsolete by a formation, people don't want to play anymore. These supposed strategists have just strategized themselves out of the game.

This game has evolved in many ways. I'll see for myself if it's truly imbalanced, and if I come to that conclusion in time I won't be playing this anymore, trust me. But I do not feel that way at the moment.

But anyways, turtles are some of the most skilled/tactical/strategic forms and can't be compaired to TAO through rushes :p.

Turtles are utterly boring to me because the strategy to winning is just too obvious.

At least in a rush-battle, the fights are abstract enough to keep me intrigued. I like things that are abstract, spontaneous, pleasantly unpredictable...things that I can see through bore me completely. The latter is the turtle for me.

I don't know if you're joking around with the first part or not...haha. All I have to say about the turtle game is that a couple days after I FIRST went gold, I started using turtles. I grew out of it then...sorry, but they seem so basic to me. I feel almost as if it was basic training for me back then. Then I made the mage bomb.

As for the blocking system, I still hold to the idea that lucks falls for those who put themselves in the position to receive it...whether that be good or bad.

Ahh, So someone finally figured it out besides me, being greedy will only make u lose.

The original blocking system worked like this: You kept firing at the knight at the front so many times, it would eventually start being eaiser to hit.

Anyways, turtles are boring because ppl choose to make them boring, I just got out of a 2 1/2 hour battle with cyborge (partially due to lag), But at the same time, I like turtles more because rushes just involve have the ambusher, wisp, mud and scouts in the right position to win.

But hey, TAO is fun in general when u screw around instead of actually trying ;).

I wish you luck, like many in the TAOverse I have tried to negate the wisp, as well as the muddie and GA with a formation. The closest I've come is my grey turtle with two scouts. Add the scout in the mix and it becomes that much harder. My mind has reached it's li,it and I'm usually thrown into a melee scrap to win the game. If/when you get it. I want to be the first to see it. if you dont mind.

I do agree with Twelve that rush can be more unpredictable..but I like the endgames of turtles more (especially a close match). Rushes just don't have a furgon, and I love the lil' fella sometimes :D

And the CONCEPT of the turtle is simple..but so is that of a rush - attack, force weaknesses on certain units to make your opponent defend and depend on their cleric recovery time.

Hell..thats how I play the game in turtle or rush, its just a different playing field, and I do it slightly differently in each.

Edit: What just kind of bugs me is how people always go for the cleric. Its not that I can't play without one (I went 8 months playing with a very exposed cleric in turt games and still won about 70% of the time), but its that theres nothing new. Its always them going 'Hey, your cleric is hittable by my GA thanks to the no LoS rule, and my wisp can hop over the rest of your units.'

I'd just like a new angle other than cleric killing. I preferred rush before GA and wisp (I actually think the wisp is fun in rush, but only when NOT used for cleric kill!).

I personally don't have problems with the first turn in any sort of match. If I'm playing a turtle game against someone who knows how to use them, it becomes tough but not impossible. If I'm playing a rush, all it means to me is that they get the advantage of one more attack than me (which they inevitably waste on an irrelevant unit). Plus the wisp doesn't do any damage to this at all; used properly, it's an endgame unit, not something for throwing away at the start to either kill a cleric or do 8 damage to a couple of units.

Just played a scrub on rev...

so we play... the entire game, I made three attacks that he could have blocked... his scout side blocks and his knights don't.

He spends the entire game trying to get side/front hits on my knights/scouts/dragon... there were at least 20 blockable attacks... naturally, I blocked a total of about 5 times.

He then proceeds to whine about how much more blocks I got then he did >_<

IDK about you guys... but I'm seeing more and more of these things... perhaps this... "blocking" isn't really all the game's fault?

The only thing i don't like about the game now a days is that so many people are greedy for points, take Gladiator for example, 2 hour turtle game, i'm about to win, and because of my lazyness/stupidity I make one dumb move. Now of course he's entilted to the points, but after that long of a game, come on....show some honour and show you won.

Now, before someone brings up, "winning is winning" which is quite true, the game isn't about the words "You Win!" Showing up on the screen to prove you're the superior player at both skills,tactics, strategy. Or the better personalitiy. So I guess it's everyones interuptations on how you look at the game that makes you either a winner or a loser. I guess it's the amount of time and caring you wanna put into things if you really are desperate to have points :p.

Heh, and again, yes Wack, before you comment on my "arrogance" or "Everything has an explanation with you Moose" replies. These are just my opinions and they seem to fit face with a lot of people as well. Like i've said before, percieve whatever I type in whatever faction you desire. Afterall text is just text ;).

Twelve does have a point before I knew how the gold units worked I used a rush..... But now that Hatchet gave me a lot of my gold training letting me watch him and battles and telling what to do and when you want to use it. Hatchet is a good turt but I like crx's shotgun I want to try that sometime

That I was taking 2 trips, one for soccer camp, then one a week after to carawinds and the concert, hehe silly me.

As for camp it was awesome, cept for the soccer part.

Also a note, one of the only rules is that you join on all servers you play on. You can't have multiple clans associated with you in netjak. So if you play FPS also, then you would need to be joining there as well.

CRX' battle with Exiled marked the last battle of the war, as it seems that all sides have gone back to lick their wounds. I would say that Banff came away in the best shape, though they did get their hits. Army got rocked. GL went midway...our entire draft got wasted.

I told OMK a long time ago that I'd report any misbehavings in Netjak members if he'd do the same for me with BG members.

Earlier today SpLiFF challenged one of my leaders, Daemon Bloodmaw (formerly Morgan Warpath/Berzerker) to a game. They both agreed to a turtle game with no Golem Ambushers. When they got in the game, Daemon had a turtle; but SpLiff had a rush along with a Golem Ambusher.

I know this doesn't violate any rules of the game, but in the eyes of many it's extremely dishonorable, and generally a wimpy action. All a cheap way of getting points. If one of my members ever did this to a Netjakker, they would get one hell of a punishment. Don't think I'm angry because he stole Daemon's points... Because Daemon managed to beat SpLiFF. I made it clear to my clan to not let this one player's dishonorable actions change their opinions on Netjak, and that these weren't Netjak standards. So none of them are going to be displaying any prejudice towards any of you.

I know Netjak doesn't stand for people who try to obtain rating through these means, and I hope disciplinary actions are taking. Thanks for reading.

It's not that because of a selected few, about a good 1/3 portion of people on these forums have been flaming me, i haven't been on these forums for awhile(for some of you who didn't get the picture i'm not here, i can't defend myself) 2nd deamon bloodmaw is a tard who made up bs, and on top of that used explicit language when we played saying ridiculous names and other words that would violate forum rules. other then that i do remember losing to you but u never turtle, so if you guys want to keep neg repping me go ahead. It's annoying the shit out of me.

Anyway, I, terps rock, Prophet and Geeky_Bastard joined the Sunday Anti-Quake tournament.

I was late the first round so I had to find another opponent because some dufus took my place. I found some newb gold who wanted to enter. (A cool guy overall, who I'll be helping out in Banff). Anyway, I win the match, even though he has a one-sided rush in front of my turtle.

Second round, I have to play Terps Rock, the first netjakker, in an opposite non-muddy turtle. It was a good game which I, in the end, won.

Third round, I have to play Prophet, the second netjakker, in a same side turtle. Prophet confessed that he was horrible at these kind of games and I had the upper hand quite early. He fought back with a great move and I was in deep trouble. In the end I could trick his scout, so I could freeze it. I then got a lucky scout side block which helped me out. In the end I won, but it was a good game, and played good by both sides. It's just really different without the mud, especially same side.

Because we only had 3 players in the semi-finals and there were still a lot of people wanting to play, but were too late, the tourney was rescheduled. So the players that still wanted to play could play, and we would get another semi-finalist. 8 players entered, including Geeky_Bastard, our young new star-player, who came on top of these 8 players.

So in the fourth round I have to play Geeky_Bastard, my third Netjak vs Netjak battle in my total of four battles. The winner has to play Rantzu1 in the finals, and the winner of that game will play the winner of the Saturday anti-quake tournament which will be decided in the match Frylock vs Blazedaces/Eatmine.

We still hope on a Netjak vs Netjak Final, which will be hard, but possible nonetheless.

If things had gone slightly differently, it could have been an all-netjak SEMIS. I lost to blazedaces thanks only to first turn, same side and a DSM block, and if Wack hadn't been drawn with all the other NJers two could well have got all the way through.

I asked Clacker to drop me and put someone else in, but just in case he didn't see it, I'll say it again here... I am too busy at the moment to train, especially with the dual scouts of FPS, and will be on vacation soon anyway (which would be about in time for the second or third round.. ugh). I would like to post my life story on this post, I wake-up to find it here, so I shall talk about TAO

When I started, I just played enjoyed the game picked up on a few things from random peps. I then was turned down by Primary Target, who was my first bad stomping. He showed me some cool basics. I then joined Final Fantasy,and learned alot by facing my rival himeimei777 orTripleSeven We played alot, and taught each other many things.
I then joined SI for a short time, didn't quite pick up too much. I then was looking to rejoin when I saw himeimei777 again. I decided to join him in The Arcadian Legends We then battled alot, and again just played. I then went gold, and just continued playing him, trying out new things.

I then left awhile after Stupid was leader. And Created my own clan. It lasted 4 months, quite impressive. I think I was a great teacher to many greys as well as a rival to other greys. I no longer had the time for it, and passed it to my most active english speaking gold, Ryu.

I then while waiting to join New Jersey or NJ, I had games with Legit Penguin and Amaroth

Amaroth told me that I could no longer become any better at rushing, unless I learned the game a different way and learned to turtle. I have now done this, and am pleased with the result.

Legit, was the one, who told my some of my favorite tips, which I shall not release.
