I'm with ya , roody. Noone can say that shit and expect me to believe it. Anyone who has played as long as this guys has is playing to win. If he's playing someone he knows nothing about, and finds himself in a situation he doesn't like, he can always go back to his patented excuse. u still have much to learn twelve...u are partially correct i've been more used to turtle vs turtle then anything else, ppl use rushes more frequently here which caught me off guard, but after a few days of practice i've been able to up the skills in that position and are rdy to take on any threats...and I honestly don't care if u think my challenge has been met because honestly none of ur boys will meet up to it ever :)

Well phewy on all of you golds this is why I am going to hang around as a lowly little gray. Even if it means I will probably never win another match since the way I have been playing lately I would probably need a good gold setup to beat even a noob.

Bad News: I can't beat Bludhoundz for some DUMB reason. I can beat everyone on the planet, but my luck against him is stupid. The boy has skills, indeed, but I should win everynow and then...lol.

After my pyros got hit from the front for times straight, I was kind of pissed...especially since he faked me out in terms of formation match-up. (Totally thought he would rush me). After my knight got hit...FROM THE FRONT...I just pretty much gave up. The game was lost and it was obvious that I was meant to lose that joint...sheesh.

But I'll get him...luck always changes...


Good News: Dang...this week, our site broke a record. For the first time ever, we managed to get 10,000 hits per day, every day of this week. Man!!!

Landy is really, really lucky. First his knights blocked EVERYTHING that came at them, front or side, for the first 100 turns or so. He got the first turn. It's just that it's able to do so much in one game, that's all. It can simply handle anything that comes at it. I suppose one can make a formation that does the same thing but looks different, but...

Still, the challenge of finding one single perfect formation is seemingly impossible. This may be a sign that the game is perfectly balanced. A new, extra unit may ruin this balance.

Admittedly, this past game has challenged this statement. I never wanted to be a complainer about blocks...I wanted to assume that that was the place for n00bs and those who are unskilled.

My idealism is being challenged...but I'll still hold firm to this. Very simply put, if I was more offensive against Wack in this game, I would have won. If I wasn't so intimidatd by Wack's skill and just was willing to lose pieces as anyone should do in a rush, I would have won. But nooooooooo....I wanted to conserve them.

Oh, I'll play you again, Wack...sad to say, he's the only guy in netjak that I can't beat. :(

Just got out of a game with Cavour. Now my words about luck being based on being in the right position is REALLY brought to the test. Right in the end game, when I needed to survive, my knights took TWO SHOTS IN FROM THE FRONT IN A ROW.

Not kidding folks...

I managed to bring the game to a draw, but I wasn't too pleased by this!!!

Wanna hear something wacky? Cavour's 2 front knight attacks on me were only the last two of four that I've taken today in total!! I too used to think that attacking a knight from the front was a wasted move...but considering the fact that it happened to me today 4 times...

Granted, I never lost any of those games and my opponents had to do it out of desperation, but still!!

Well, in my game against 66 yesterday, it came down to a battle of two knights. My knight was able to take 2 hits while his only one, and so I felt that I had great chance to win.

That was until he just walked up and smacked me from the front. He then retreated so that I would either have to hit him back from the front, or take two turns and walk around and hit him from the side.

I also knew that if I didn't hit him from the side, he would have two turns to hit me from the back and I would have lost.

Luckily for me, that side shot went through, and I won. But once again, it only came close because his knight nailed mine from the front.

This is the problem with the game as it stands... a battle between two good players is, more often than not, decided by luck.

I've noticed a definite increase in 20%ers coming up too. Dragons seem to block from the sides a lot, witches block from the front all the time, and I find that it doesn't take long for a lone scout, cleric and furgon to take out 2 knights at all (where you'd expect only 1 out of 5 shots so hit, so 2 fullish health knights need 30 shots...)

Thanks for the props.. Though it was not only the skill of your team who kicked us out.. It sure was like 90%.. They did a great job.. and I really respect their attitudes and skill.. I know there are/were some difficulties between our clans.. but still i respect you guys..


And as for the legends rankings.. I know we're not getting respresented really big in those rankings except for aza/jaychou and myself.. but those rankings start at 1543.. compare that beginning with the nr50 spot at the other servers..

Well, I haven't been able to find a good game in GL for quite some time. Sheesh. The golds that I HAVE played have either sucked or been really pathetic. I can't get my rating up there for anything.

And me being one of the VERY few Great Lakes originals left, I think I must pertake in this.

Great Lakes is currently a pile of crap. We got ripped off in two ways.

One being that we were the first server. All of our members started before everyone else. We had the oldest members in the game, so naturally, they were the first to leave. Meaning we're currently out of original players with the exception of me, Xy, Warcow, and Cav. We're all that's left.

Another being that for some reason, Banff and Armageddon were both the default server twice as many times each as Great Lakes was. For some reason, DR ripped us off, and we did not get any new players. So with our older players leaving, and no new players coming in, our skill dropped.

Talk to anyone who has been here since the beginning. We are the elders of TAO. Their was a time when we were undefeatable. Nobody could stop us. Then that dynasty came to an end. And now Banff has taken on that position.

But that's why I was looking foward to Netjak arriving on the server. I was hoping a clan rivalry would up the anty of the gameplay. And with that, more people would rise out of the grey pit of n00bs, get a shiny new gold name, and rush to the fore to restore our glory.

So get your Netjak ass in gear and lets get some whoopin' in!

Well, that's a very honest testimony about Great Lakes. I know that when I first came into this game, GL was the joint and people said that Banff was the n00b server.

GL is netjak's second front ever, but admittedly recruiting over there hasn't been that easy. From what I can gather, there just isn't enough action and movement going on there. There's a certain chemistry over there that I don't quite understand. I think it really needs to be the default server, and soon.

True, netjak is there, but if the river is stagnant, we can't do any moving. :)

GL is currently the WORST of the servers in the TAO realm... by far.

I have played on all the servers, including legends, and the with the noteable exception of a handful of players, the gameplay is pathetic. The golds suffer from stat crazed paranoia and the greys that have any talent eventually move to another server.

What makes matters worse is the mentality of the people there. It just deplorable. It is consistently the one with the most cheaters, the most grey jumpers, and the most fraidy cats of all the servers. I mean, look at Trauger, a 1600+ gold that got there from jumping only greys was replaced in the #1 spot, by another grey jumper, Dark Golem.

People always make up that sad ole tale about having all the good players gone. It might be true as I think that all the good people have eventually moved to the other servers and all that is left is the dregs of the society. However, it is not an acceptable explaination for the sheer miseary that prevails there. There does not exist the kind of respect and honor that prevails in the other servers.

I may be biased in saying all this as i noticed that when i log into banff I am greeted with cheers and friendly faces and treated nicely. Whereas, on GL i am treated as public enemy #1 and can't get a anyone over 1200 to give me a match, which is compounded by the fact that when i do lose that odd match, I lose 20-30pts and the guy that that beats me gloats publicly for days. ugh.. :mad:

It is now the default server... let's see if bringing in new blood helps.:confused:

I used my knights poorly. Plus, if you didn't make that HORRIBLE blunder with your first move (lol)...we both know the game wouldn't have even been THAT close.

Well, I finally had my game with Hatchet Warrior, as promised. It was one of the best grey on grey games I've had in a while. In the end, I secured the win, but he still did very well, nonetheless.

To tell you the truth, I don't really care to much for a the dragon. It takes up two units, has very long recovery, doesn't move for other units, and has crappy blocking. I'd prefer a Beast Rider over a Dragon any day. My setups are very unique, and I often rely on mobility as opposed to power. So I use units with long range, short recovery, ect... It's just what I prefer.

If you're using a setup with only 4 attacking units and one of them ISN'T a dragon, then you're using a setup I have yet to see. A setup with that few attacking units is , obviously, a very defensive one( most likely a furgi-turtle). I mean, I've seen many furgi-turtles with only 4 attacking units, but they always have a dragon.

I can beat most rushes.

First the Muddie comes in, I Barrier my Stonie, he quakes. I paralize, Shrub to block LoS, kill him. Now has no real means of getting me with the exception of Scouts. Scouts with no armor, I might add. I go offensive with the Furgon and trap his nearest Scout, so he has to shoot his way out, wasting his turns, all the while I pick him off, and Frosty if I can, I repeat the process with the other Scout after. Now he has no units he can reach me with without being paralized. I pick off the Cleric, then it's just an onslaught from there.

You don't *need* a dragon. You *need* to have strategy. Plus the element of Duo Clerics often helps.

Sounds like a nice strat. But what if the mud is kept in reserve? You can't be 100% sure with your shrubbing then, and if you fence yourself in too much you're vulnerable to scouts if you have no teleporting unit. Still, each to his own.

I can't imagine a furgy setup with no dragon. Teleport is it's greatest strength.

I'd actually prefer the Mud kept in reserve, if they're one of the last units, I have more time to spread out what I have, so the quake won't affect me.

Niwa-Tori, a clan member of seed, plays with only the dragon/scout/muddy/knight as attacking units (1 scout at legends) but he simply ownz the furgon.. it's amazing to see it, and i'm still 1-2 against him :( it's amazing to see him fight.. I've never seen anyone better with the furgon than him.. but maybe i'm not well informed because i don't really know how the top here plays.. i'll happily play one of you 2 any day.. You've only seen one of my formations, son. :)I pick one out of 12 at random, and you just happened to get that one. I play defensively, offensively, in between...the only time I actually pick a specific formation is if I REALLY want to beat someone and I know how they play.

Rushes are fun, but often alot of turtlers complain about them, the only good reason to use a rush is a rush vs rush, a rush vs turtle is unfair to the turtler seeing as he has no chance to defend himself even if he is skilled, i think the turtle on turtle matches prove who has the most skill and who can hit the stone golem first and force the other player on the defensive

I disagree with a lot of these points.

Rush vs. turtle is not unfair. A furgon easily shuts down a rush, just get rid of the muddie and you'll be fine. In any case, why is using a certain form *unfair*? If it wasn't fair, you wouldn't be allowed to use it.

Also, hitting the stone golem doesn't win you the game. I have deliberately allowed my stoney to be hit before, wasting a vital turn for my opponent and forcing his scout out of position, allowing me to kill his cleric, break his stone focus and kill a scout, losing only one scout of my own in return; when he then moved to restone, that gave me time to as well.

Having said that, forcing the other player onto the defensive does win you the match normally. :)

well alot of rushes usually have a dsm and pyro at the front, with a mud right there, and with 2 scouts and a knight u can just contain there units and a furgon couldn't do boo about it, but anyways what i should have said is that a rush has a huge tactical advantage over a turtle seeing as it's perfectly formed against something like that, and in those types of games u gotta depend on luck to have a chance, because theres no way a turtle could get to ur cleric and hit it like that :)

Rushes are very fair indeed. The units are available, and their is nothing in the rules about setting them up that way, Moose. I still do think they take less skill to use, though. But I don't mind playing them, like Bottle said, Furgons crush all you lowely rushers :)

I played tcbb yesterday, and he said he hadn't seen a furgon since he'd come back. He said he'd had 95% rushes. Honestly, 12, you need to get to work on that anti-rush form... it's getting boring. Everyone except a few oldies rushes now.

Eh? I don't follow. What anti-rush form are you talking about?

If I use any formation too much, it gets boring...I've created original and consistently winning turtle formatons, rushes, bombs...at a certain level of gameplay they all require the same amount of skill. Just different kinds of skill. I've had hard fights with all of these formations, and all of them have required great gameplay to use. But if I use any one formation even three times straight, it gets hectically boring to me.

Oh, I thought you said that some mysterious "anti-rush" formation has gotten boring...I was like, where did you see that?

People give me credit for making the first anti-turtle formation(the modern mage bomb), but I'm sure many people had the idea before me. They were just afraid to use it.

As for making an anti-rush formation...it depends what you mean. If I know that I'm about to face a mage-bomb, I know exactly what to do to stop it. (It always involved 3 knights, an LW, and your own DSM).

If it comes to a melee rush, and you're expecting it, 3 knights, an LW, a furgon, and a frostie go a long ways in stopping any melee rush.

Now, the tricky part is when you face someone who uses a melee rush WITH a mage bomb together...that's where it gets hairy.

Still, I did make a formation called "The Crab" that is a turtle capable of handling any formation in front of it. So far, it's beaten the best turtles, the best bombs, and the best rushes. Problem is, it's extremely hard to use.

I honestly wish that they would get rid of the rating system entirely. I think if they did we'd see way different setups.

Someone makes a setup. It works very well and they become number one on the server. Everyone looks at them and thinks "Wow, I can get more points if I use the same setup as them." So now a fad is started, and EVERYONE uses the same setups, that being rushes, right now. At one time it was turtles. Because of that, their's no diversity in the game. Sure, I like running into a few rushes, but it's ridiculous when I run in the nothing but rushes for a straight week. Same went with when Turtles were the big fad.

I seriously think that if their wasn't a ranking, we would have a much better game. Firstly, their would be virtually no grey hunting. The greys would be better skilled since they'd have nothing to lose if they played golds. And formation fads would be dwindled down alot. People would stop using whats supposedly the "best" and start actually playing for fun. Everyone gets too serious with this game. They come on wanting to be number one on the rankings, it's a game. Have fun. Don't just play for points, I sure as hell don't.

One of these days, my grey setup is going to be the fad. It's great against turtles, rushes, spreads. It's only weakness is an occasional witch burn, but it's strong enough to survive even that.

If you want the perfect formation, look at the noob default. I'm at 1186 right now and rising :)

EXACTLY!!! People thought I was a fool for writing that in my review, but the default setup is a VERY good one!!
