Hold it right there, who says turtlers don't face other forms on purpose? I know Moose invited people to rush his turtle. I'm not great at it, but playaing rushes with my turtle increase my skill of the game, and beating a medicore rush is rarely difficult. The closer I come to beating a god rush, the more my skills improve. I sat in Rev the other day for an hour with a turt, asking people to rush me. I beat everyone who jumped me (most noobs)except imag, who I got within 4 units, and considering he burned my cleric first move, I was happy with the result. Fry can vouch for me calling for a rush, he even offered to beat me, but I declined the punishment :bigsmile: So don't bash us turtlers for being scared.

Also, I play rushers with my turt most of the time, I have also beaten without a problem sometimes. :D

Eh..I don't see this as being true; if you can get a scout or a mud for your cleric, you can come away with the game easily, having more attackers. You just have to be careful.

Wolf-boy: Many turtlers can rush, and many rushers can turtle. In fact, the better turtlers can rush well, and the better rushers can turtle well. They the same basic aspect of the game: get your opponent defending so you can get something eventually.

I'm not going to argue that turtles and rushes are the same, because thats just not true.

As for one being more skilled than the other..well the only reason 'more' luck is involved in rushing is because there are more to kill that block; in a turtle, the stone golem, cleric and frost golem all don't block. Also if you use a mud golem and a wisp, thats 5. In a freestyle, the most you'll use is 4.. because you won't have a stony. There is the same amount of luck involved per blocking unit, no matter WHAT type of game it is (I don't care what anyone says, grey involves luck too).

I've been trying to make a turtle that can beat rushes this weekend. I've got a pretty damn nice one. It has only 2 weaknesses: 1) a perfectly placed, first turn DSM (if it doesn't get first turn, I can move to deal it 22 damage and leave it with a maximum possible 2 units at once to hit); and 2) a muddy constantly bashing at it while wisp annoys me and other units have a go at me while I kill the mud. Anything else... my cleric dead but no mudquake in my base... opp corner monkus turt w/ furgon... nothing can beat it.

Like I said on the muddy thread I made... turtles CAN'T handle a couple of mudquakes, period. And most rushes that I've played seem to have the mud right alongside the GA, ready to cause some carnage. It's... frustrating.

The mud situation is 10 times worse than the DSM one. The chance of DSM being perfect is 0.5 (same side) * 0.5 (first turn) * ~0.3 (chance of being in the one spot on that side that you can hit my stone cluster). That's only 7.5% chance, and that's if you're facing someone with a DSM on the front row.

I've found that the best way to deal with people who are cleric-killers is to either not use a cleric(impossible with turtles, I know) or make sure that their other pieces suffer while they kill the cleric.

Also, in a purely defensive formation, one that uses an LW, BW, Furgon, wisp and frosty, and NO dragon....it's very hard to lose.

But most folks can't imagine life without a dragon.

I am not claming to be an anti guru, but just through my personal experience have found that a good rush can still many times beat an anti. It's hard to write something worthwhile in this post, especially seeing that it's this early. But I figure that what I should do for all of the new folks in Netjak is give a bit of a history lesson. I will post about our ups and downs, our rivals past, and how we grew and developed. Hence...

In the beginning, I actually heard about this game through a post in the netjak.com forums. We're always discussing games there, and a poster who's name I now forget mentioned how he played a turn-based strategy online game.

This seemed like a dream-come-true to me at the time, since I always wanted to see how I would match up against PEOPLE in my favorite videogame genre.

Playing from Switzerland at the time, it was important for me to see if this game was quality. Would it contain glitches? How would the graphics be? Would it be overly complicated?

Being a life-long gamer from the old-school, I was able to sense the quality of this game from the very start. I moved a knight and that was all I needed to see. I signed up for gold on the very same day, January 17th, 2004.

In my first game ever, in Banff (which was the default server) my cleric was roasted by a witch. Perhaps an idea came in my head then, but the initial formation that I created was the turtle. It just made sense to me, to go into a corner and play defensive. Being a complete n00b at the game, I thought I had something unique and special and I looked forward to playing somebody tough.

The first *tough* person I ran into was Rescorlian. I was astonished to see that he was using what we now call "turtle" as well, from the opposite side. He KICKED my behind...I remember being amazed with how he used his scouts.

He then asked me if I wanted to join his clan, since I apparently had skill. But I said no, mainly because I was humiliated in battle and didn't think I was even CLOSE to being clan-worthy. Even then, I noticed the power of the Strategic Insomniacs in Banff. I was impressed and a bit intimidated by them. They ruled the lobby, and they all seemed to have cool Greek sounding, powerful names. I looked at my own name of "Twelve" and figured I should have probably picked something as cool as those names! Meletus! Ravus Rhin! Mighty warriors!

I ventured into the forums, and noticed that this Rescorlian even teased the people I saw around the lobby quite a bit as well...Vengeance in Shadow. If SI were the Greek Heroes, VIS were the villains. It was interesting to me and I didn't know where I would end up.

I didn't originally want to create a clan. But when I went back to my netjak website and homebase, people like Deadpool and Ritual, two of the ORIGINAL members of this clan, were like, "Twelve, you should start a 'netjak.com' clan!". I figured, "what the heck, it's free".

I was nervous about it, though, because I didn't want people to think that I was promoting my website. For the first few weeks of the clan's existence, I kept thinking that my clan would be deleted. Seriously...I was nervous whenever I couldn't log in...and I remember when my clan disappeared...due to a glitch in the game. But at the time, I thought that the TAO powers that be had taken me out.

But the original members of this clan were Imp, Ritual, Deadpool and Vormech. Only Vormech still plays.

Nevertheless, that's all I really wanted...just to play the game with homies that I knew in Banff. We never thought that we would be the best or beat the best...but it was fun.

Then, I remember seeing this player named "netjak.com" jumping around the lobby. I was a wee bit pissed. Who the heck does this person think he is?...I thought.

Then, I got a pm in the netjak forums(loooong before the days of the private netcave). It was from Search66, saying that "netjak.com" was indeed him.

I owed a lot to 66...he was the one who gave me the chance to work at netjak.com, which eventually led to me becoming one of the administrators there. I used to write for a group called www.raveware.co.uk...but 66 gave me a chance at netjak. But that's another history...point is that 66 was my "boss".

I immediately invited him to the clan but he refused to be leader. He wanted me to have lead. It was hard for me to imagine being the leader over my "boss" but he was adamant. So he took co-lead.

That's how it was for a while...66, Deadpool, Vormech, myself...Ritual and Imp fell away shortly.

My very FIRST recruit ever was Irondan. An honorable dude, I remember being impressed with the first anti formation I ever saw. As a matter of fact, before Irondan, I NEVER saw pieces even put up to the front before. I was so impressed by his agressive formation...and it gave me an idea...

I remember Irondan was probably the first person on netjak to say, "I can't stand SI". By that time, 66 and I felt the same...we were starting to get a bit peeved with them ruling the lobby. But we really couldn't do anything about it..we had no clout.

Then came our first ELITE warrior...Pyro_Guy4. Dude beat EVERYONE. And I simply asked him to join. By that time, we had more members, but we were still small. I remember pyroguy saying, "Hey, this is my first non-noob clan...lol". He always said "lol" too much.

Not long after, I created the first magebomb. Many say it was the first magebomb EVER...some say it wasn't...but this I will say. I was the first person to ever seriously use it regularly because I beat everyone with it. And quickly. There was no defense against it because it was brand new. Pyro_Guy started to use it as well and both of us flew high into the rankings. Netjak became known as a "bombing" clan, and people didn't like it.

VIS especially felt peeved...we were marching on their territory and people like Smubeht, Ozmaj85 and Insane Jay made sure I knew about it. I was accused of cheating, bullied in the forums and in the lobby...but what made me very angry with them was when I finally made it to the number one place in the Banff Rankings...only to be sent to number 2 by a fake account that they made and falsly boosted stats.

It was during that conflict that I truly saw Bottle in the beginning of his posting glory. I had met him back when he was grey in Banff, clanless...and I saw his skill even then. I wanted him in the clan, but I remember him saying that he gave his word to someone else...he would grow into one of netjak's greatest rivals.

66 and I used to play a guy named NOMAR every freakin's day in Banff. I use to beat him every day too, with my unique magebomb. Then Nomar copied it and beat me. :) I had to get him on the clan, because I couldn't have it that someone who can beat me was NOT in my clan. I come to find out that 66 was his friend as well. Nomar already had a clan, named the FORCE, with players like Wack-Head, Darque, Draquist, Lord Duckie, Ersio17...people that would have amazing futures in TAO. I still find it amazing what kind of batch of people Nomar had in his clan...I find it more unbelievable that they all decided to join us...and under the name of netjak!

That was HUGE...because of the FORCE, we became one of the PEOPLE in Banff...it was the first time clan [netjak.com] attained universal respect...when the big boys had to notice us.

VIS was crumbling by this time, but SI was still powerful. I had a lobby argument with Meletus, and the rivalry for Banff began in full swing.

But we netjakkers truly felt that we were the best in Banff. We had the team spirit. 66 came up with the "netjak WIN!" chant, which is now part of our identity. He also came up with the "netjak or nothing" rule, the most important rule of any clan in TAO. Our thread in netjak.com forums became so huge that we moved to our own section, and later made it private because it got a LOT of attention. I made the rule of making no wars with any clans, because we're ALWAYS at war with ALL clans.

Then, the clan went through its first crisis, just when we clearly became the best in Banff on paper and in presence. I took a break from the game, which gave some of the people in the clan who wanted to go off on their own an excuse to do so. Sadly, these were our TOP players. We took a huge blow, and our morale got nailed hard. These top players even got together and formed their own clan...called .Next.

It hurt a lot...and now I'll admit something I've never admitted before. I wanted to quit leading the clan. I couldn't take that terrible hit...I was so sick of the betrayal, sick of the game...

But I noticed that nobody else wanted to quit. My fellow netjakkers wanted to keep on fighting. They wanted revenge...they wanted to go out and kick the tails of those who left! I couldn't believe it...and I quickly followed the spirit.

I've really never turned back since then...I realized then that I have a responsibility, great or small, to keep this clan alive for those who find brotherhood within it. Keep it alive for the team spirit, the comraderie...the feeling of working together.
