Ever have one of those days? I'm sure quite a few of you know what I'm talking about.
I created this thread for one reason, and one reason only.
To b*tch about lousy days at work.
I just completed one of my all-time worst. Seriously. I spent all day suffering from a condition I refer to as DFF ( DumbF**k Friday ).
I started off the day by hitting an underground gas line with a backhoe, something I hadn't done in years. That's always a fun time, by the way. Incredibly, things got worse from there.
I couldn't do a damn thing right. To make matters worse, I couldn't catch a break. Things I've done a million times wouldn't work. I spent all day fixing my own mistakes, which means I basically accomplished nothing.
I felt like my brain was operating at 25% capacity. I've been at my company for 11 years, and I felt like today was my first day. No way to explain it.
I almost never have days like this. I usually feel very comfortable and confident at work. But this was just one of those days.
Thank God it's the weekend. I'm gonna sit back, relax and I know I'll be back in my groove on Monday. Still, that doesn't change the fact that today really sucked.
So go ahead.
Gripe. Complain. Piss and moan.
Full-time, part-time, after-school or summer job. It' doesn't matter. If you feel like b*tching about a lousy day at work, I'm all ears.

Keep on sippin' that beer, bro...

All I have to say about my job is that I'm quitting it on the 19th. Enough wasting my life away in that joint. It had it's purpose for a time, but now I'm getting back to my novel. :)

Dude, I'm sorry about your day. You had me crakin' up with that story, but I'm sure you weren't in the mood to laugh throughout that day.

I know exactly what you mean...and when something wrong happens, it often effects everything else; bad stuff becomes cummulative, and exponentalizing.

Work for me ended today, great day even if not for that; but there've been a whole lot when I've wished for a few beers within reach.

Sounds bad, good luck!

I dealt with a boss a Papa Murphys Take'n'Bake that was a total flake and gave me a headache. She'd give me like 4 hours a week, and didnt even train me. I got the job when i was too young to work there, and didnt have a food handlers permit either, thats how flaky she was. She'd sit in her office ans talk to her mother and eat Subway, ALL DAY.

So i started eating the pepperoni whennobody was looking, and stealing pizza's (custom. oh yea. Garlic on the bottom, cheese and peperoni stuffed crusts, mix of white and red sauce and everything on top.) and soda's and shit.

Finally i just started eating right infront of her just so i would get fired.

That wasn today though...

I got you beat, 12... I'm quitting the 15th. 2 days left after today, Saturday and Monday.

This job... has been interesting. I get paid about a third of what I should for what I do, but there's usually very little business, so it evens out there. I spend most of the day online, unless it's a busy week or something.

One Saturday I had one customer. My only customer all day. That customer sat at my counter for FOUR HOURS trying to get his computer returned or exchanged. I didn't have the status within the company to do it, but our department is very customer service oriented, so I couldn't just say "no. Go away." I had to figure out how to help the guy. My boss isn't in on Saturday's so I couldn't go to him for an answer. It was a nightmare.

Also, my boss has been going through a veeerry messy divorce, so he's been extremely stressed, and when he's stressed he has a tendency to take it out on me because I'm the only one under him. He also often takes two hour lunches and leaves an hour early

I honestly can't remember the last time he took a single hour for lunch. It's always at least an hour and a half.

I feel ya. You know it's bad when you start counting down like this, trying to break it down so that it sounds the best to your ears. :)

What are you going to do afterwards? Hang out?

I suppose here's the place to talk about it Hugh....

Well I was working on this contrustion site laying water pipe and other stuff for about 10 hours a day, making about 5 bucks an hour under the counter. Not a bad deal for someone my age. The third day I was there I had to spread grass seed, and straw on an area of about an acre. That was bad enough to complain about, but I didn't.
I woke up the next morning and I couldn't breathe very well. I figured it was just a cold or something so I went in to work anyway. When i started walking around I realized I had to stop and catch my breath like every 3 minutes, and it would take a long time to catch my breath. It got to the point where I couldn't even walk because it felt like someone had a belt wrapped around my lungs and they were pulling it tighter.
That night I had to go to the emergency room, and it turns out I'm allergic to straw...

Oh yeah, the guys at work were helpful in telling me that we had breathing masks in the truck... the day after..

I'm 17, I don't like beer yet.

My job for the summer is a teacher's aide at a special ed school. I am underpaid for what I do as I'm sure most of us are. I am doing the job of the teacher for she is out due to family problems. I have to deal with a brand new speech therapist all day long who only talks about her sex life and her muscley boyfriend with no job. I have four aides to deal with too. Three of them are a lot older than I am. One drives me nuts. She overexaggerates everything and can't stand most of the kids. She is constantly leaving the room to go to the bathroom every 5 min. Two of the other aide are stuck to each other all day talking about shopping and their husbands while I am trying to teach a lesson. The last is younger than me and she is terrified of the kids. The kids I work with all have high behavior problems (biting, kicking, screaming, pinching, headbutting, etc. and are very needy.) I love my job and I love what I do. The kids have never been a problem.. it's the staff. I am happier there when three of them call in sick. I deal with this crap all week and I am truly happy it is the weekend.

OK, this doesn't compare to Hugh or Pixel's day, but I'm really bummed. I just crafted a long, involved response to Moko's question in the "I miss Wurtil" thread and when I clicked on "submit reply," my computer crashed and I lost it all. I'm sort of broken up about it and don't have the heart to type it up again. I really liked it too and I don't think I can remember what I said. :(

How's that for whining Hugh?

Ah Twelve, we're quittin' buddies.

I also leave on the 19th, quitting my lousy ass Dow Agrosciences job, and going to school.

I'm a data clerk, so I sit at a desk, and enter forms into the database all day, or create activities, manage accounts, keep records, all that stuff.

However for the last month and a half, I have been given the project of PI's. These are product inquiries, which are to be blunt, complaints, and insurance claims.

This is what I do for eight hours a day, for the last month and a half.

I type what people whine about, filling out the same damn form, over and over and over again, until it's quitting time, and then get up to do it again the next morning.

Not only that, I have to wear a dress shirt and dress pants and dress shoes every single day.

GAH! But only five more days left! Woohoo! Awesome thread Hugh!

Hugh, sorry to hear about the bum day man, I feel your pain. Can I share something about my day that was cool to maybe lighten yours up a bit? Ok, thanks, I'll just go right ahead then. Since April I've been driving for AAA Auto Club in the Los Angeles area as the guy who unlocks your car when you lock your keys in it. I used to drive tow truck for them like 3 years ago, but this is easier and pays better. I can open ANY car on the road with tools that all fit in a soft sided shotgun case. Every day is pretty much the same, I drive around for 10 hours and open between 30 and 40 cars. So today around 9:00 AM I pull up at the bank on a call and this lady is tripping out that there's a kitten stuck in her engine compartment and she got flustered and locked herself out. She wants me to help her get the cat out, so I open her car, pop the hood, and start chasing Mr. Kitten. He's crying like mad and runs from me every time I find him in different nooks in the engine. During this time I find out this lady just drove 40 miles to work and had the little kitty up in her car the whole time without realizing it. I try to rescue kitty for 45 minutes when I FINALLY get another call and have an excuse to leave. I basically tell the lady to call animal control or the fire department and get on with my life. Well, I bang out 3 calls all in the same area in the matter of 30 minutes, but I can't get this stupid kitten off of my mind. I'm driving past a pet store about ablock away from where the lady with the stuck kitten is at when suddenly I get an idea. I pop in the pet store and buy a can of stinky smelly cat food and stop back by the kitten rescue. Well, the FD and animal control have come and gone, basically telling her to wait it out. I pop the top on my can of food and try different places to put the stuff for half an hour before I finally get it in a spot where the scared kitten can eat it, but can't see my hand until I grab him. So I grab little kitty and pull him out and give him to the lady. Yay, I'm the cat hero! Ya know, sometimes you do some really silly things in moments of pride and glory, and the cat somehow became my cat and I'm supposed to pick her up at 5PM cause the lady wants to have him pal around the office for the day. Well, I get a call a little while later, she called my shop to get my full name and company name, which the dispatcher gave her. I roll up around 5 to get my new cat and find out they called the newspaper, there's going to be a story on the event, and they're also putting it in their company newsletter and sending a copy to the Auto Club. I went back to the shop and got huge attaboy's from the boss and brownnose gestures from my jealous coworkers, but I scored a kitten with a story for my daughter, and AAA always kicks drivers down gift certificates to nice places to eat on stuff like this, so all in all, I had a pretty good day.

It'd be really good to escape those bad work days, by going to work with no clothes on, because:

No one ever steals your chair.

It gives "bad hair day" a whole new meaning.

It diverts attention from the fact that you also came to work drunk.

People stop stealing your pens after they've seen where you keep them.

So that, with a little help from beer, you can add "Exotic Dancer" to your exaggerated resume.

You want to see if it's like the real dream.

"I'd love to let you borrow some money, but I left my wallet in my pants."

You can take advantage of computer monitor radiation to work on your tan.

Your boss is always yelling, "I wanna see your ass in here by 8:00!"

wow you guys seem to have some bad days at work.
i have a great job most of the time at a boys and girls club. it hard at time when you have 40 kids in the computer room there are only 16 computer. so they start jumping on you and hitting other kids. but yesterday was just bad during the kickball game. i had 4 kids get hit in the head 3 go cuts *one was pretty bad*. and 4 times that day i got yelled at by my boss. 250+ kids and 10 staff is really not a fun day.

You know, Nads story is the perfect example of what used to be right with America. It is so rare in life that someone will take extra time out of their day, not only on the job to go above and beyond the call of duty, but also in the little day to day stuff by helping out our fellow man, woman, or in Nad's case kitty.

*breaks into song*

When it comes crashing down, and it hurts inside
Ya' gotta take a stand, it don't help to hide

If you hurt my friends, can you hurt my pride
I gotta be a man, I can't let it slide
I am a real American
Fight for the rights of every man
I am a real American
Fight for what's right - Fight for your life

Well I'm feeling strong about right and wrong
And I don't take trouble for very long.
I got somethin' deep inside of me
Courage is the thing that keeps us free

Nads is a real American
Fight for the rights of every man
Nads is a real American
Fight for what's right - Fight for your life

I really enjoyed my day off today. I slept in, went out to lunch, washed my car, went jogging, shopping, then out to dinner. I took full advantage of my freedom. Now it's back to work tomorrow. :(

Little things like that are not work to me. I love having a clean car. Plus I got to hang out outside in the sun. I did jump in the pool when I got too hot. ;)

My last day is a casual friday, how beautiful.

Which means I never have to wear these damn dress clothes again! Woohoo!

Oh, Emerald...I'm going to party. After this day, I'll finally be doing what I want for the first time since I quit my job in Switzerland and came to America. It's been almost exactly 1 year since I chose to leave Switzerland for the U.S., and now I'm finally back to the old Twelve.

Now I just have to get through tomorrow. I told my boss not to torture me with a horrendous schedule. I hope she doesn't give me 9 hours of boredom. Please no.

The funny thing, Emerald, is that you're actually quite encouraging. :D

It's interesting how words such as these have a great effect on a miserable day.

Thanx bro....

Now I shall focus on my true loves and passions in life. Once of which is writing.

For now, it's time to dance!!!
