View Full Version : Easier stat check

I know this would probably take a good amount of programming but would it ever be possible to be able to click on a name in the online list and it would tell you their stats back in the text box? A lot of people use either chinese characters, ascii text or other variations to make it hard to check stats unless you know the ascii code or how to read a different language. I guess that's why they have these names, but it just nags on me whenever I beat a chinese guy to wonder, how good is he really? I'll never know because I can't check his stats.

Just a suggestion. You can shoot me if you think it's bad or if it's been suggested 87 times before (but I didn't see it in the suggestion thread, so here's to hope.)

just type /stat [their name] that seems pretty simple to me...

That's not the problem. The problem is when their name is »ê¶ÜåpxÒ╚Ä. Unless you know the ascii code, you're not gonna check the stats.

Right. Mathews... Reading Meds post before posting could help...

I thought of this several times. Or if the stats were displayed under the guys name or whatever.

Its an ok idea. I think /stat is easy for the people's names, but your right when the name is hard to type.I think it would increase lag if the stats were right there!

I could see that, but they could keep the same rules for checking stats as they do for greys talking with the 3/6/10/98 second spacing between each check. That should cause less lag, or even if they allow you to click on your opponents name to check the stats while in an arena. Even that would be better.

I dont know how much lag this would cause, but what if there were just a separate column with the stats? Then there'd be no need for the player to do anything to see the stats, and it hopefully isn't much harder than showing the name of the people in the first place, since the stats don't change while the person's in the lobby, or in a game.

Even better, just get rid of stats! Saves time on lag, reduces cheating, gets people to stop waiting for the 30 turn draw, and removes a hectic part of the game!

Now, if only there was such a simple way to get rid of cyberers...

No more chat window!

I like this idea, just try it on a new server and you'd be surprized. Though there would be plenty players less serious, they would get bored and go away if they didn't actually have it in them.

But then, no competition. Also, the way you put that, players are not skilled by how many stats they have, someone could cheat and get them, or someone could be underranked. Get my drift. Im neutral on the idea. just putting in my 2 cents.

They need to bring back the win/loss. THAT was like crazy cool. Very crazy cool.

I thought that was pretty smart, I like the idea of you just having to click the name if you don't know how to type the name.

It bugs the shit out of me when I can't check the stats of the person I want to.

Like for example, the name: llllllll
In game its more confusing, 'coz here in the forums, you can easily tell an I from an l. In game you can't, so you have to go through all these different I and L combinations. (And yes, for the members of TDP or just for those of you who know, that is pinkie's name, bugged the crap out of me the first few weeks :p )

the reason they got rid of it is because it WASN'T crazy cool, or anything else. It was even easier to manipulate that form of rating than it was the current one.

I wish I was here when you guys had that system...

Medemia: Totally agree. By the way, greys only have to wait 5 seconds after speaking... if they're just checking stats they can do it as often as possible.

I think stat display would work best, but for all practical purposes click-name-appear-in-text would be best (in game particularly).

Just so you know, most of the "chinese" guys aren't really chinese... probably just random kids who got their hands on the program and want to look cool.

Most of the names in chinese make no sense at all, just random characters put together.

yea, if a chinese person wanted their name known, they would translate it into english. They probably think it looks cool, as in like graphic for a sports car, with the japanese logos, or even tatoos

I'm kinda neutral on the whole thing...If people don't want you to know their stats, they probably suck. If they're good, and don't want you to know, then they absoutely suck :P. The way I see it, if I don't know someone's rating, I just don't play them. Simple as that.

but stats aren't everything, remember if you're looking for a good game, jump golds, if not play by stats

Stats just show how much commitment you put into the game, or how many 1400 n00bs u can get points off of for ur 1700 gold.

Anyways as for those "hard names" try getting your keycoder out (lil application that has all those odd things in it such as ¥Öÿ. etc)

But on this topic, there are a couple of people using Russian and Korean Names and in some cases can not be translated. I think that might be the only problem but hey whose knows.

A much simpler fix would be to allow only alphanumeric standard letters to be used.

Even using a character generator, there are many letters/symbols that look almost identical.
