ok so i get this pm from a dude saying he liked my units i made, i pmed him back saying thanks. next thing he says was "did you neg rep me" which of coarse i didnt so i replied no. Ok next thing he does is ask me to positive rep him. im thinking he complimented me just for a rep. anyone else get pm's like this? who asks for reps anyways or even makes schemes to get a good rep. people... :bad:

I've never had anyone PM me asking for a rep but once I got a positive rep from someone with a red box who told me to rep them back if I wanted them to keep sending me positive reps whenever they could.

I get alot of neg rep from unkown people. I don't ask for rep, but it would be nice to have, so I try to be helpful and earn it. Anytime someone asks me for rep, I just pm them and tell them do something good for the forums, and if they do, they get it.

No, not at all.
You didn't like how he came straight out with it and asked you for a pos. rep just 'coz he complimented you. If you don't like what someone says, does, or asks you to do... You neg 'em. I mean that's what the neg rep option is for, its not just there to impress.

Although it is pretty impressive... :)

In my opinion, asking for a positive rep (in MOST cases, there are a very few for me which are exceptions) is exactly the same as a bad post. I'll usually neg people that ask for a pos rep, OR if I feel like they actually deserved a pos until that point I won't rep them at all.

Speaking of neg repping people, I'm still going to neg Thash as often as I can. It'd be great if I had lots of people join me. He's pissed me off enough for me to experiment with just how low the rep system can go, but I could use some help.

Asking for rep gets you either negative rep, or no rep at all, unless we're actually friends, then I might oblige them. In fact, that's a good way to see if I like you, ask me for rep and see what color you get :P

If you're serious, the grey and blue reps are just normal reps from people that are too low in rep to affect you. For example, a n00bie reps me. I'll get a blue box no matter what.

Also, netjak discovered that you can send colored reps :) .

Does anyone know how the rep system works? for example I got repped by someone with 3 boxes and it didn't affect and the next week I got repped by the same pesron and it did.(I assume my rep limit is anyone above 3 boxes in the middle somewhere but I was wondering if anyone has actually figured this out. Also do I affect you people with 11 boxes?

Yes. All people that have more than 'will be famous soon enough' is able to give/take away points. And you can attack Jeffery if you wanted to, but if you were on 3 boxes, you'd take off 3-5 points off him.

actually, negs are halved, so 3 boxes you take off 2 from him... unless you had a high post count/early join date.

But, as you said, it would have no effect because the top 3 in reputation will be repping you at every chance.

You can also send quotes, change the text to a bigger/smaller size, use a different font, and make it bold/italics/underlined.

I created a forum account and tried all this on it. It all worked.

NOTE: I've been giving it neg reps as well, so the reputation of this account is more or less near the starting reputation amount (which is at 20).
