Nod in agreement.
(I have nearly 950 with that account, all from the standard formation. He was only 850, though he might have been in X-factor, but he had the right idea. It's fun when n00bs think they've won after witchburning the cleric... I'm about 6/9 right now, and having a heck of a time.)

Congrats bro. You have learned what a few of us have been preaching for a long time now. Welcome to the club. I can introduce you to Medemia and Crater. There are a few others of us running around but these guys helped me in writing a book on this.
We are living proof you can ride that form to over 1300 before the wipe.

I thought I could get up to 1100 or so before the next wipe, that formation is just awesome after you get used to it a little and learned enough about the game. It's just so moldable. I can get it to do anything in a limited number of turns, and it only requires a little extra strategy without the wards.
You and your friends rood, you rock.

It's a fun form, but there are better ones. The default is a good all around setup though, even though you can counter it, it's good against lots of forms.

I really didn't have much trouble beating many people with this form. Yes, when an elite player came up against it, they usually pulled out a close win. But I can't say that I ever got rolled using the default, and barely lost at that.

After I saw this thread, I went and played a few games with the standard form. I must say that it does work quite well due to it's flexibility. I've managed to beat 3 grey turtles with it so far, though to be fair they weren't exactly 'elite' players.
It is fun to use definately. I'm not sure how it would work if I got witchburned 1st turn by some semi-experienced player but I guess I'll find out soon enough.

Yeah, it really eats up turtles. I need to make an anti default setup
Powered pyros are the ultimate anti-default. Two of them on the front line for Cleric burn and take those Knights' health down to size.
Anyways, congrats on winning without actually killing any units ;) .

I think there is a reason Seed put that as the default form. It is because that is the best grey form there is...if used correcty.

Lame, you can say that about any form.

This has really exceeded my expectations... I'm already at 1103 in three days, with only the standard formation. I've played less than 25 battles and more than 15, only lost three of the early ones when I was adjusting, and pwned all of the n00brushers with their witches in position to kill the cleric from the start of the game. I haven't lost to a single game where the cleric died the first turn, and there were at least 7 of them.
Granted, much of my success was because the other player underestimated me, but psychology is half of the game, easily. And it's still a blast to play with. The only thing I'm worried about is a player going all-out defensive, which hasn't happened yet. How do you and your friends deal with that, rood?

I always hate that too. Your Knight are generally your best friends in my experience... usually backed up by a mage. If he takes your Witch, make sure he gets roughed up by the Knights. Those units are like tanks (if used correctly :p ). Gold turtles are tough though. I believe it may have been Bottle that said a skilled gold Furgon user will NEVER lose to a grey form, no matter how good.
Other than that, lots is based on the form and units in it.

Dove just nubbed me.... I feel retarded now.
I've gone offensive with other formations, they were just different from the default one.

Now it's your turn to feel retarded. I was obviously talking about the default formation. :p

Well, as Roody said, I've been using the default since I returned. Here is a great post about my experiences there:

Please excuse my modest appraisal of that thread. I actually liked that one now that I have read it again.

Or a spread rush with two Pyros and a Witch.
Or anything with two Pyros and a Witch.

Well, actually since my last post, I've beat 2 good greys (both over 1250+) that were using grey turtles. They weren't close wins either - I won by 3-4 units and one of those was an all-out defensive player. The advantage of the form I find is that it is very easy to flank a turtle with either a knight and assassin, or a knight and scout. Also, you have considerably more ranged damage units and if you can sucker your opponent into losing his scout, he's toast.
For some reason, most people lose their scout against me really quick with this form as they tend to throw it out in front of their lines. Either it's a combination of assassin, DMW and pyro, or chanty, pyro and knight with my own scout damage thrown in for good measure. Even if it's barriered, I've been able to break the barrier with the flankers.

I have to agree with this thread.
The default grey setup is a piece of art in the hands of a skilled player. But the down fall of most of the opponents that face this set is the "not another n00b" syndrome, or NADS for short.
It seems that a skilled played plays differently when under the influence of NADS than when they face a player with a turtle set or have higher stats.

Man, I once played a 700 grey on legends who manuvered his default better than anyone I ever ever seen before, he just kept organizing and organizing!
