... What would've happened if he hadn't left for whatever reason. I doubt that he thought that he would lose, but he left nonetheless. I had a rough strategy worked out for this situation (http://members.cox.net/dpott/don'tgetit.JPG), and it was looking bleak. On the side, I had played this guy before and the game ended in a draw. He never spoke a word to me. His rating both times was in the high 1300 area, and mine was in the 1200 area. He used a freestlye formation with six Dark Magic Witches, two knights, a scout, and a cleric. A knight was swapped for a witch in the second game. I used the default formation in both games.

All of the units on the field are in this picture. I was purple, my opponent was blue, and the only damaged unit still on the field was my pyromancer in the very corner of it. He was at 12hp. Did I just get lucky? Was there any reasonable chance for anything but a loss?

I think you got lucky

At that point the logical thing to do would be to get rid of his cleric. The position of his witch would mean you scout his cleric, he blasts you, heals an moves away, you pursue, then he blasts you again, dead scout.

Then he has you owned, because he can scout your magic and keep his knight about in that spot to finish off your wounded magic if you try and attack the scout. On top of that, if you manage to kill both the knight and the scout (maybe by sheer luck) he still has a full health witch waiting for you.

Actually, his cleric was recovering for three turns, and I figured that it wouldn't be so bad to take out the witch first. It was more a thing about considering whether I could kill something, damage the other, and finish it with my low hp scout than what the witch would do to me.

No.... if his cleric has to wait... scout the cleric, witch the knight, pyro the knight, scout the cleric, pyro the knight, wait a turn, pyro the knight for the kill, now you have a scout at 18 and a pyro vs. his scout and witch.

Unfortunately, you still lose :)

I think you could still have him myself. It would be close, but with the shady blocking that occurs, anything is possible.

that's true roody... I can see two pyros pinning a knight into the corner while the scout front snipes it to death

Sounds like some of the things that happened to me before I quit.
