i was quite steamed to find out that cursing disconnected me. i'm new, but i'm doing decently well -- the disconnect cost me 50 status. all of the progress i made today. i thought it was ok because people are still doing it around whatever crappy filter does the disconnectings, i didn't notice the use of alt characters and such (which is exactly what was happening, the guy i was going against was cursing me out non-stop and i decided to say something back, and i auto-lost and he auto-won).
point is, i scoured the webpage to find out that i see nothing about this disconnection policy. it would be really nice to not have to find out about this the hard way. it would also be really nice to make it so that "be a huge jerkoff and get your opponent to curse at you to win" strategies don't actually work.

Well, since it is impossible to lose 50 points in a game, I'll take it as exageration.
But yes, the filter should be listed as a policy on the servers. As should all possible attacks by units.

yes, it was an exaggeration. i lost 29. i was looking forward to breaking 1000 for once, which i would've done if i had finished the game sans cursing.
point is, i don't like getting punished for secret rules.
i can't know i'm breaking a rule until i break it.

But at least it teaches you not to do it again.
Plus, it teaches you not to be rude, even in the face of provokation. :wink2:

You're wrong. If your rating is below 1000, you can gain or lose 32 points. Between 1000 and 1400, any gain or loss of rating is multiplied by 0.75 (I think), so the maximum loss is 24 points. Above 1400, and any rating change is multiplied by 0.5, so the maximimum win/loss is 16 points.

Personally a solution is don't cuss. You don't cuss you don't get booted. Simple as that.

Happens to everyone equally man. Everyone at one point or another got D/C for that. The trick is not letting it happen again, then number of times I got D/C for spelling account accunt, that's my white whale.

You shouldn't swear anyway, there's no need for it.
Let your opponent rant. Just ignore them and play the game.

Exile, I know you can lose at least 29 rating points at a 1070 rating (because I did when I my comp reset against i beat mathews for the tourney).
They should just make all alt characters not work (if it's possible). That would be nice (no trick saying f*ck)

that's pretty close to what I worked out, except I think there's more to the slowdown in point gain/loss than a simple percentage. I suspect there's something to do with a diminishing returns algorithm based on the percentage your opponent's rating of your's is, but maybe I'm putting too much thought into it (or giving seed too much credit).
eh, its probably about what you described.

i think you guys are missing the points i'm making. stop focusing on the numbers i discussed because thats not the point.
indeed, i probably shouldn't have been rude in the face of the abuse i was taking. the points i'm trying to make are:
rules of conduct in the game need to be public and published. i don't like being being punished for rules that are unavailable. it doesn't matter that i'll never do it again after i've discovered it. i shouldn't have to discover it.
people are avoiding the crappy filter by putting spaces in the words or using alt characters or any number of other things. if its not possible to implement a better filter, whats the point of having the crappy one in the first place? rude people are bypassing it with ease.

You should have people sign a agreement that they must follow certain rules of conduct before they can play i.e. no harrasing, being rude, swearing, making sexual or racial comments etc.then have a way to report people who do violate these rules. if there are several reports from differant people then the violater should be susspended or his acount terminated.
