"I have a dream"
ServerWars Tourny Idea.
Rules & Requirements.
Not Aloud: Mud Golem, Wisp, Dragon Speaker Mage, Golem Ambusher, Furgon, Drops (no units you won in a unit drop).
Amount of Units: 7
Prize(s): Server Avatar for home server (any unit not used by another server, possibly even Shrub). (Eg. Armageddon, Great Lakes, and Banff), also the person who won the tournament deserves some recognition for such an acheivement, and would have their name/and or screen name, put on the front page of TAO, as the winner of the ServerWars Tourny.
How it Works:
Dragon Tyrant, as always counts as 2 units, so if a Dragon Tyrant is used only 6 units in total may be used.
Anybody may enter the tournament, it will be done simple. Each person must post the name they'll be playing by, and the server they will be playing for. Every person to sign up will be givin a number, first person would be #1, second #2, and so on. At random these numbers will have already been placed to Vs. another number, and this is how the games will be selected. Only 30 members, will be aloud to join. And since this is still in the idea stage, dates have not been set.
Comments:
the Mud Golem, Dragon Speaker Mage, Golem Ambusher, and Wisp - Have been removed because it makes for more of a skill required game. seeing as how these are the most over-powered units, in my personal opinion.
The Furgon - Has been removed, because it will massivly slow down the game concidering all the other units have gone, and because not everyone will have the time for this long game. Also I beleive it will require more skill to protect a Frost Golem assuming it were to be used, which would increase the skill nessesity.
Units won in Unit Drops - Have been removed, so that nobody has an unfaire advantage.
reasons for "how it works": I originaly had an idea that we could have 5 players from each server be chosen to play, but this would exclude people, and I beleive everyone should have a chance.
In addition another Tournament will be held for making banners for the winner. A banner which states "ServerWars champion", suggestions on other quotes will be excepted, by the members in the ServerWars Tournament only.
Also, I would strongly suggest taking screenies of your win. If there is a dispute, and no screenie, the game would have to be re-done. And just in-case someone isnt able to take a screenie, both must take screenies in the second match between the 2 unless its not possible, in which case both are disqualified. - Please play honerably
And this is my rough idea, I would be more than willing to look over the tourny, but of course, because of the prize, I think we would need an Admin, possibly even seed himself to have to agree to this. I dont realy expect this idea to launch, but I think its a great idea and worth getting passed around.
- Inspired by Dan f u's post
All suggestions welcome.
- Matt
EDIT: The point of this is to get suggestions on how to make this better. Tell me whats wrong with it, and preferably give a way of fixing it
suggestions so far:
do this some other time
do not restrict units
tell me if you agree/disagree
UNIT RESTRICTIONS HAVE BEEN REMOVED(still 7 units to be used.)

Does this look like the Tournament Forum to you?

I think the only problem would be what server would be played on. It would take a really long time to play and with 3 servers it will get real mixed up because that is 90 people. I like the overall idea though. I don't think units should be restricted though. It sometimes doesn't allow the player to play as well as they normally play without some of there units.

Its not a Tournament, Its a suggestion for a tournament, and seeing as how this is the suggestions Board, I'd say it fits.

I ment 30 people all together :-\
and tournaments are played on Rev.
And the point about the unit restrictions... I think it requires more skill, and the person to win this, I think should be one of (if not the most) skilled players in the game.

Personally, I don't see what this has to do with servers at all. It's just another tournament with a few ridiculous restrictions.

There was one server tournament preparation a year ago, but no one entered.

Its the prize, and the fact that you play in a way which you represent your own server, and by winning this, you could change a small part the TAO site permanently (or semi-permanently, w/e 0.o ). I could have it renamed, I didnt think that part was all that important.
The thing that makes this diffrent from other tournies.
- These tight restrictions, which I do think will bring out more tactical skills - and will prove which players are the best.
- The prize, which im sure anyone would like, having your name put on the front page as being one of the best players of your time, and the fact that you will be changing the look of TAO, at least semi-permanently. And the banner part of the prize is just so that you stand out, and people know you defeated some of TAOs best.
Could always call it the TAO Olympics, and do it anualy, that'd be pretty kewl
Im sure the rules could be edited, to make it more original, and thats why i posted it here asking for suggestions.
come to think of it, I think I should up the number of participants, so that the top players get a chance to enter. also I should reserve 3 places, in-case a group of people strongly want someone to join (a great player)

I think removing units is stupid... removing the units that take skill???? bad idea... maybe a tourney like this would be good. I dont know... probably wont happen but you never know... I like making it not 10 unit games cause those get borring. 7 units would be fun. the 4 unit tourney rocks.
EDIT: those unit restrictions jsut make it a turtlers fantasy... If you want an extremely skill based game play with grey units only.

Only one tournament changed TAO in any way. And the gameplay had 0 to do with it.
Winners of tournaments are remembered for a whole 5 minutes. It's something to brag about and forget. Nothing like a small tournament will change anything about TAO.
There have been 5 tournaments lately. How many of the winners have their name on the front page?
There have been several tournaments lately, why is yours so special (especially since you don;t even want to run it) that it deserves a prize.
If you want to run a Turtle Tournament, design one and run it.

do you even read the posts before you respond?

I dont intend to make this a small tournament, like I posted earlyer I think Ill boost the amount of players.

Like I said before its diffrent from others, and I intend to make it big

umm... well like I said, I posted it here, so that people could give suggestions on how to make it better, in a way which deserves such a prize.
also.. (especially since you don;t even want to run it)
Wtf?
I would be more than willing to look over the tourny
..well so far zzzaacckks (and Iron, but I think he didnt completely understand before giving suggestions, but still, thanks) been a help, in giving suggestions.. Like I asked, thanks zzz, if others agree with your opinions then I can edit them in.

So, if you want to organize a tournament, why are you still using the suggestions board? And, the hastily run tournaments are bigger than this. Look at the number of players in ANY of Realists tournaments, and you will see it is larger, and holds players from all tournaments, including some of the biggest names in TAO.
The only thing that sets this one apart from the rest is your urge to limit tactics.

ok, one more time, Its here for suggestions.
The only thing that sets this one apart from the rest is your urge to limit tactics
since you seem to agree with zzz, just say so and that will be edited in. Basicly im trying to design a Tourny with everyone helping, so that more people will enjoy it. So far it seems the best change I can make is, takeing out the unit restrictions. But I dont see how that was an "urge to limit tactics" since it took out the units which seem to be over powered.
Now before you continue to argue the idea, keep in mind that the point of this is to get people suggestions on how to make it better. So you can say somthings wrong, but unless if suggest a way of fixing it, or at least, say somthing along the lines of "anyone got ideas of how to fix this?", its a waiste of time.

Jeff in this case is correct... right now there is a big craze of small tourneys but they do need organization. I know this because last night I ran one with Max2k. It was a sucess but ya... try this at a less hectic time.

maybe, but there's no point in re-posting this at another time asking for suggestions. I might as well get the suggestions, and edit my idea, save it to my computer, and suggest it again later, when I feel its a better time.

To make it a "server war" it would have to be the 5 best of GL the 5 best of Army and the 5 best of Banff against each other on rev,and the server with the most wins are the best time thing :) i unno...;)

Yes, and people would complain of a definition of best player, not to mention egtting them all together would suck.

well.. I didnt eactly want a "server war" thats just what I called it, because the people would be battleing while representing their server...

You usually give something a name that fits its description, that post just shows your idiocy.
This suggestion forum is for suggestions to improve the game, this is what the forum description says:Please post suggestions and feedback for the TAO development team here. This is the wrong place to post this idea, it should be in the tourny board, admit it and move on.
Unit restrictions are usually a bad idea because it fits the type of game you want to play, not the type of game most players will want.
30 players is not a large tourny, and no where did you mention adding more, as you implied in your response to Jeff. Your original statement seems clear and free from ambiguity:Only 30 members, will be aloud to join.If you are going to change things, edit the section containing them.
Lastly, this has nothing to do with servers, as several have already pointed out. The first 30 people can enter regardless of their home server, and this does not mean exactly 10 from each server will enter. To be a server war, each server must be equally represented.
If you had made a mistake, admitted it, and moved on, that would be one thing. Instead you made a noobish post in the wrong board and then argued about it ... come on, pay attention.

there is no way in hell I could win with these restrictions in a tourny. No I would not want them personaly. I simply think that it would increase the skill needed, and im not the most skilled player. 1420 on army, at best.

like I said I didn't think the name was important, and it is easy to change if it bothers you.
This is the wrong place to post this idea, it should be in the tourny board, admit it and move on.
Maybe it is, I never actualy went along with the.."Please post suggestions and feedback for the TAO development team here." I usualy just read the board, and follow along. So I guess I did post in the wrong board, but I dont see the point in bitching about it concidering its already been done.
I learned one thing outta that, and got a little chuckle, thanks for the input.
