View Full Version : Moderator Elections

Sorry if this has been suggested before, I'm on my friends 56k connection and dont want to search. I think that mods should be chosen by elections, say, every year, instead of just the Admins picking them. Yeah, this idea has room for improvement, and a lot of it. This would make it more fair, and give more people a chance to become a mod, and get rid of all of the "how do i becom a modd???" posts.

the problem with that is some people will make 100 forum accounts just to vote themselves in, and you dont really want thrash to be a mod do you?

Bad idea. Let's say someone that has no moderator qualities at all gets to a high point on the popularity scale by some bizarre means. Then alot of not-so-smart people will vote for that person. This is a bad idea in that aspect.
Maybe it could be a golds-only thing or something like that so that only non-n00bs can vote.

problems with this concept:
1. People are stupid -it'd be a popularity contest, or people would cheat, or they would just vote for whomever. We want mods who are effective and good at being a mod (which has certain requirements to it), not just whomever everyone wants to be it.
2. Cheaters -as described above. How would you effectively vote this?
3. Unbiassed - I want my mods unbiassed. There are far too many groups here that influence people's thinking. Voting doesn't bring these people forth.
4. Those that want power, are typically those who are least suited to have it. If people wanted to be voted into modship, I don't want them there.

Exactly. Thing is they have to have 100 e-mail adresses whihc is also quite a good way to stop so many account being made.

you obviously don't talk to many of the newer golds, who happen to be the most immature people ive ever met. And even some of the older golds. I'm sorry but when someone says I'm scared because I turn down a game I can't help but laugh, then try to get them to continue by telling them I'm terrified.
plus some of the grays are very mature so that idea doesn't make much sence to me.
But, I think this idea could work, only not everyone votes, we could do it the way we have people vote for new units. have a select few do the voting, which the admins would select, though I think we'd need a decent amount of voters chosen.
Still, even though I think the idea could work if the idea was edited, I don't think it would be any better. I think the mods that were chosen, were chosen well, so.. whats wrong with the way they were chosen? ;)

Maybe he's just a little disgruntled with the mods for some reason, and wants to become more gruntled by posting under a new set of mods who he feels will enjoy his posts more?
Yeah, the mods here are the greatest ever.

Thing is dower, some greys are well known and well respected and may also have the qualities of modship and therefore, just because they are grey, shouldn't mean they cannot be a mod. Thing is the bad thing about a grey being a mod is that they have not supported tao by buying a gold, therefore, will not help them become a mod.

Damn right it means they can't. Duff did his duty and all, no complaints on him, but I don't want someone who's free-riding the game to hav any authority. It just indicates a lack of dedication to me. I'm close minded like that.

Huh?... I wasn't talking about grays being mods, i was talking about voteing on mods.. and I was saying gray should be aloud to do the vote if we were to do it.
personaly I think theres more respectible (in my opinion) grays that play, then golds...
Note: I am Gold.
EDIT: and I agree byte. one of the things you gain from going gold should be, "The possibility of being a mod"... of course they should never write that in the rules, because then all the newb golds would be asking to go mod..

If we had these, we'd get mods like Jeffery, roody, nomar, Frylock. I think the current method works far better.
(Edit: Not to say that none of the above could not be good mods)

No. Because the idiots would elect some asshole like me, and I would be forced to ban everyone including myself.

I do think its pretty scary the number of ppl that want Jeff to be mod.
I mean, can you imagine what would happen if he logged one pissed off one day? He'd do something like ban everyone who has the letter T in their account names or something.

Well, how about this:
You need XX number of rep boxes to be a Mod (like...11? or something like that.)
You need XX number of rep boxes TO VOTE. (5? 8? something?)
That would weed out alot of "gosh, i'll just make 40 accounts and vote 4 myself!!11!!"
But I do like the current way better....

The current method works fine. The mods decide if they need more mods, and if so, more mods appear.
